#robin skull

The Seasons favourite, the supposed nation's favourite a d gardeners choice.

The little Robin red breast found its way into the hearts of many. It can symoblise many things, luck, a visting message from a loved one whos no longer here. A symbol of happiness or discovering it is also heavily believed. Although looking at any Birds can generate such feelings I think.

But apparently thier place amongst the top ranked Birds of the UK is even linked with our respect for them. There were reportedly less cases of nest disturbance even before the Wildlife and Countryside act 1981 when compared to other Birds.

It leads me to question whether or not theyre put on a pedastal simply because theyre easily recognisable both physically and audibly and their increased presence around humans. (Which I think House Sparrows fit a lot of those categories too yet we're viewed as more of a pest)

Robin population in the collection has shot up fast though!

Robin makes the first finished of a selection of skulls still processing.

This one I think is the 5th Robin of the collection and one of the better quality ones.

Robins are part of the Chat family and other than the Nightingale all regular visitors and residents appear to be brightly coloured.

Interestingly Chats were considered part of the same as family as Thrushes just a different branch but are now classified as Old World Flycatchers, previously that would have meant that the Eurasian Robin and the American Robin would have come from the same family!

The Eurasian Robin itself is the only extant member of its genus too!
