Rubell was co-owner of Studio 54 and he was later arrested and served jail time after investigators found $2.5 million in unreported income from the club's receipts, as well as cash and receipts hidden in the ceiling of his office. After serving his sentence and triumphantly returning to Studio 54, he sadly died from complications of AIDS in 1989 at the age of 45.
