Czytam w tej chwili ‘The Transition Handbook’ Roba Hopkinsa — sympatycznie i niepozornie wyglądającego Anglika z odstającymi uszami (‘geniusz’ - szepczę z uwielbieniem w trakcie lektury). Pierwszy rozdział jest o ropie i zmianie klimatu. Pięknie Pan Autor pisze o piaskach bitumicznych: “Produkowanie ropy z piasków bitumicznych można mniej więcej porównać do prób wydobycia kakao w proszku z ogromnego ciasta czekoladowego”. Według Hopkinsa entuzjazm wobec tak nędznych źródeł kiepskiej ropy jest jednym z wyraźnych dowodów na to, ze koniec ropy jest bliski, choć paliwowi giganci zarzekają się, ze tak nie jest. Trochę dalej jest analogia z pubem: “Konwencjonalne wydobywanie ropy można porównać z sytuacją, kiedy po przyjściu do pubu uroczy barman serwuje wam piwo bezpośrednio z beczki w piwnicy. Natomiast piaski bitumiczne to trochę jak przyjść do baru i dowiedzieć się, ze nie ma już piwa; jednak wasze pragnienie jest tak wielkie, że zaczynacie sobie wyobrażać, ze w ciągu ostatnich trzydziestu lat przynajmniej 5000 pint piwa, rozlawszy się, wsiąknęło w dywan (to Anglik pisze). Wymyślacie wiec proceder, by wygotowywać dywan, zeby wydobyć z niego ukochany trunek. Jest to desperacki akt alkoholika niezdolnego wyzwolić się od przedmiotu swojego uzależnienia…”
The Transition to Permaculture is On
A month ago a group of community leaders and organizers met at a workshop put together by TransitionUS on participatory leadership called, "The Art of Hosting." It was a powerful three days at many levels. One of the greatest outcomes was spark of an idea to marry the 2013 Northern California Permaculture Convergence and Northern California Transition Network Conference. It was a natural fit, that meets with the reality that all of us who want to make our communities more resilient must work together and demonstrate the cooperation among ourselves that we expect of others. This article, "Is Transition the Trojan Horse for Permaculture?" by Rosie Apps speaks to why this merger makes so much sense.
We have a working title, The Resilient Communities Convergence, a place, The Solar Living Institute in Hopland California, and a date October 11-13, 2013. Yup, it's right around the corner. Transition Network founder, Rob Hopkins is confirmed as a Keynote Speaker on Saturday Night October 12, 2013 and Richard Heinberg of the Post Carbon Institute will also be a featured Keynote.
