Someone else knocked on my ribs to see if I was home.

Just because I answered back didn’t mean I was there.

She bought pie last night I can't tell you what kind I never knew her favorite flavor I'm sure that changes I bet she ate it slowly, alone in her room Listening to Johnny Cash Her heart keeping time with "I Still Miss Someone" I'm just guessing I'll never know for sure Because I'm a million miles away An hour by car But I like to think about that To paint the picture I can't see At this enforced distance  

I don't know if it's better than nothing To know a little for a long time Because it hasn't been that long And right now it feels good Right now I don't need much detail Right now it's enough just to be there in my mind Watching her hair grow

A thought of me As poetry Trips from your lips And conquers me

So gifted, I By word and deed Of one who sees And knows my need

Your soft surrender My desire To strike our match That we catch fire

Your pearl well-hidden Long concealed It is my will To have revealed

To have you arch And ache until I penetrate Your soul to fill

From rising moon To dawning sun We two entwining To make one

'Til in our ruins We take sleep Denying death Our love to keep

Long have I with willful hand Kept distant from the fire’s glow To n’er embrace things most desired To know hellfire has made it so In distance where I found my solace To keep me from disturbing things Is now more prison than my shelter Where no one weeps but no one sings

Such yearning he had never known Robbed of sleep And in it’s place where faith had fled She gave belief

Her absence agony to endure No song, no face Only in death is found relief No memory, no trace

For love had come and with it pain At every parting Until is found that place where none Can stop their starting

He struggles for the word or deed To well convey His love into her hollows And so to stay

Came dawn, came light to melt the moon That shadowed them All that departed begs return Begin again

Once a love wont to describe By things unseen, undone From dreams they came, to dreams return ’Til they are one

Stars like holes in dark sky skin Such is how the light gets in And as they fall the wishes rise To fade all dreams unrealized This light of wishes, light of dreams That ‘til this night unlikely seemed My eyes denied and would not see Until reflected mine in thee I have been calm, l have been still No wind, no words to sway my will Where nothing gives and nothing takes Nothing to mend, for nothing breaks ’Til into my smooth midnight lake Your stone was cast and in its wake I am aroused from deepest sleep To penetrate your castle keep If this be madness let us rave ‘Til we are spent we shan’t be saved Let go all fear and banish past If dreaming let this be our last
