A new spiny frog of the genus Pristimantis (Anura, Strabomantidae) from the eastern slopes of the Ecuadorian Andes
Cachabi Robber Frog (Pristimantis achatinus), family Strabomantidae, Colombia
This individual is unusually red, for this species, which is usually a shade of brown.
It is unclear as to whether this is normal variation, or if this is a Erythristic individual.

La Loma Robber Frog (Pristimantis caryophyllaceus), mother guarding eggs, family Strabomantidae, Costa Rica
Mothers lay eggs on leaves and then brood them under their bodies. The offspring go through the tadpole stage in the egg, and then hatch out as froglets. * This is possible, because their rain forest habitats are so humid, and wet.

This genus of frogs was once placed in the family Leptodactylidae, and many of the frogs in this genus were once considered to be in the genus Eleuthrodactylus.

Please enjoy this lovely grey Craugastor rhodopis, more commonly known as the polymorphic robber frog, which was found in the Parque Nacional El Imposible in El Salvador. These frogs inhabit the leaf litter of montane forests, and are threatened by habitat loss. Images by William Leonard.
Thickskin Robber Frog (Pristimantis pycnodermis)
In the family Craugastoridae, this endangered frog is endemic to the paramos and cloud forest meadows of the Ecuadorean Andes. They reach a maximum snout-vent length of 1.7 inches. The tadpoles develop inside the eggs, and then metamorphose and hatch out.

today's funky frog of the day: the clay robber frog (Haddadus binotatus)!!! these adorable little dudes are brazilian, and can be found in piles or remnants of leaves on the forest floor.
