Just when I think the blues have up and disappeared, Joe Marson delivers a clear wake-up call.

With its badass riffs and gut-punching lyrics, Marson’s new single, “No Retreat”, leaves me entranced.

Opening with a man versus desert scheme, the accompanying music video fits hand in hand with the track’s enticing ways. “Leave me alone/Baby you’ll hurt me/ I’ve always known/That you’d desert me,” the video combines dark dancing figures with the solitary desert to symbolize the monsters swarming Marson’s mind.

Featuring Rob Calder’s epic bass and Matt Johnson’s heavy drums, you can feel the instrumentals intertwine with the dancers, making both your heart and mind whirl. Erratic and destructive, the dancers thrive in their maddening disheveled ways and will have you tapping into your insanity as well. Hell knows I was seduced. 

Gritty, raw, and soaked in passion, the track and its visuals welcome the alluring beasts in Marson’s head and ultimately captivate us all. With Marson keeping the blues alive, I’m now mentally cruising down the highway windows down, New Orleans bound, with a smoke, a bottle of bourbon, and my mind fucking spinning.
