Hello! My name is H, and I’m a student nurse. Kind of begrudgingly, but after six months, I’m starting to get into the swing of things. Dare I say, I’m even enjoying this session of nursing school so far. Is that a thing?

Anywho, I was a student midwife for three years, working towards my CPM certification and state licensure. I decided toward the end of my apprenticeship that being on call 24/7 wasn’t going to work with my somewhat fickle health, and the state I live in is pretty hostile towards midwives. In a matter of days, following some pretty serious thought, I decided to finish what I started, and go to nursing school (I had done the pre-reqs for another program five years prior).

Now I’m here, and I don’t really fit in. Coming from a background in midwifery and plant medicine and being trauma-informed and being “older” (almost 26), I’m usually the odd one out. I don’t mind though, because everyone is generally friendly, and I know that my skills are valuable. Or will be.
