It's not strictly *urban* fantasy any more than Tamora Pierce's works (try the Beka Cooper series!), but Garth Nix's Old Kingdom series has female protags. Ones who aren't interested in getting a date so much as finding their place in the world and saving it, not necessarily in that order. There's Simon Green's Hawk and Fisher stories-- Fisher is a female beat cop in a steampunky city. FWIW, I agree with you re: romance, but I've found that sometimes it's worth wading through it.
I just have a very limited reading ability at the moment. XD I havenāt read a book for like 2 months that wasnāt a comic. So Iām being particularly picky about books cause Iāve got limited energy to spend on them.

Yeah, Iām thinking alphabetically by author, and by series within that? My main problem is arranging everything in such a way as to make it, you know, fit.
They've definitely done Jesus parallels before-- the nature of Western media(and education on symbolism in Western media), perhaps, but for the last seven seasons it's been Sam as the Jesus parallel, not Dean. jimmynovaks did a neat series focusing on the messianic/crucifixion parallels around Sam during the Trials. But, yes, very, VERY worrisome.
No, no, youāre right. Sam has definitely been the subject of a Jesus parallel of sorts... but his was actually more of a Messianic parallel. Sam seemed to be in the roleĀ of Jesus Christ as savior, sacrificial victim, and redeemer. Dean on the other hand seems to be in the personĀ of Jesus of Nazareth. I think thereās a distinct difference. Sam as savior I was absolutely okay with and really liked. But if theyāre casting Dean as Jesus, comparing a pizza dinner with the Last Supper and Sam with Judas... that scares me a bit.
In honor of there being no new episode tonight, what do you think of bringing back Bobby as the titular "Inside Man" last episode? Bobby is great and I'm glad that they're finding ways to keep him in the story, but part of me thinks that as close as he is to the Winchesters, he wasn't the smartest choice. Why didn't they go with Ash-- who can literally hack Heaven and who has been actively exploring it for years, undetected? (Aside from the meta reasons of Chad Lindbergh's availability...)
First, can we just ask why in the world we have a random one week hiatus when we just had a hiatus?!?!
Second, I should probably mention that while I love Bobby, I also have huge problems with him, stemming from the way the fandom glorifies his good qualities while ignoring his bad ones and the huge double standard they have regarding him vs other people. It does huge disservice to a character to put them on aĀ pedestalĀ and forget their humanity. So, personally, I was not thrilled to see him back, not really, because it meant the fandom would start doing it again.
Third, itās really hard to look at the non-meta reasons for his return because really the only reason he returned is because him and Jim Beaver are such big parts of the SPN Family. He came back for reasons of nostalgia, fan service, and familial love, all of which were great things. But it was really unnecessary for the narrative. (Okay, besides maybe the fact that we needed to hear him sayĀ āBallsā again.)
BUT, okay, Iāll try to be good and look at it from aĀ āwithin the show universeā perspective. The call for Bobby was not a call for an underground expert, an outlawed technician. Think about what Bobby did- it really was notĀ that hard. No, Bobby was there for Sam. It was disguised as a call forĀ āhunting helpā but in reality, Sam is losing his brother. Deanās not just dying or depressed or messing with the dark side of the force a bit. This is a fight for his soulĀ and Sam knows what happens if he loses. Dean becomes a demon, the thing they hunt, truly truly evil. So Samās fighting against that fate. And heās losing. Heās losing bad.Ā
Sam may be a grown up, but he needs help. He needs the wisdom of someone older than him and he needs someone to have his back. More than that, like a little boy he needs someone to be there and lie to him and tell him itās going to be okay. And heās got no one. Itās just him and Dean and Deanās the one heās trying to save. So he called out for Bobby, knowing that Bobby couldnāt do any of those things for him, any at all. But he could love him and love Dean. So Sam calls for Bobby because he needs a little reminder that he is strong enough and courageous enough to go onā¦ for his brother.
