Yeah, I know the River Devil was supposed to look kinda like a catfish, but I took some liberties.
Anyway, you should all read the mercy Thompson series. It’s good guys!

River Marked breaks my heart for all the lives the River Devil takes, especially the children, and especially when she makes them realize their fear.
Been binge-reading tabletop rpg bestiaries and had a dream about a new kind of monster called a River Devil which was some sort of creature that inhabits running water and can only be glimpsed momentarily as a leering demonic face reflected along the surface, and despite their name they weren't actually devils or only lived in rivers, and the most common kind live in the city where they inhabit streams of rainwater and feed on discarded food litter like chicken bones and the occasional rat before the rain ends and they wash down the storm drains.
They looked like Satan from this meme and would suddenly appear to appear near foodcarts and startle them so they'd drop their chicken wings in the gutter.
Charming the River Devil (which *I guess* is a giant spider...)
I wanted to say thank you for introducing me to one of the most fun D20 systems I've ever played! An actual question: have any of you made your own creatures and tried them out? With all the resources 13th Age gives you I've become addicted to making them and setting them loose on my unfortunate players.
The River Devil featured in 13 True Ways is in fact a creation of Ironicus’ that you can hear the first draft of in the very dusty Session One of lp13a. As for myself (ikks, hello), I use the custom monster table far, far more than I ever use any actual monsters. It makes coming up with their unfair powers and abilities so much more exciting.

“The problem is this, Bobcat. Things change whether you want them to, or not—unless you are dead.”
River Devil by Patricia Briggs
“All change brings bad things and good things to replace the bad and good things that were before. It is natural to look back and say it was better before—but that does not make it true. Different is not worse. It is just different.”
River Devil by Patricia Briggs
