Another Erestor headcanon I have is that he is a follower of Maedhros and Maglor and partially partook in the Kinslaying in Sirion. But when he realized midway that these were innocent, defenseless people fighting, he started protecting them.
He fought back against his own men, and was eventually struck down by Maedhros who left him alive. The injury was so bad, that he was never able to lift a sword again. Thus he dedicated the rest of his life lore.Â
He’s also very bitter and in chronic pain. Hence why he doesn’t interact wih anyone. Because of this, Elrond doesn’t press him, and is the most understanding of him in Rivendell.Â
He even assigns Elladan and Elrohir to assist Erestor in lifting books and moving furniture.Â
