What was she doing here? It was late, she was tired, and this was a mistake. What reason did she have to think this was anything but entirely foolish? This was not the first time of her visions had kept Lydia awake, and it would hardly be the last. Surely, another night alone in her flat would not be the end of her. She had endured far worse, and still managed to come out on the other side. Yet, despite her every effort to convince herself otherwise, she couldn’t bring herself to stay away. At least not before checking to see if Rita would remain true to her word: that, if Lydia needed anything, at any time, her door would be open to her, without question or reproach. Standing in the doorway, offering a series of quick knocks, she could only hope her frenzied reasoning was only that. “Rita? Are you there? It’s… it’s Lydia. I’m sorry to be here at this hour, I know it’s late, I don’t mean to bother you, I’m just…” she stops mid-sentence, unsure how to continue but almost certain she would not come to greet her. With each agonizing moment that passed was a continued reminder of how terrible of an idea this had been. “Are you there?” Letting out a soft breath, she starts to lean away from the doorway, eventually offering a soft and yearnful whisper. “Please be there.”
