Stoked to announce that Sophie Hellyer has joined Team dryrobe as an ambassador.
As well as being a surfer, writer, producer, yoga teacher and wild swimmer, Sophie is a passionate advocate for protecting the environment.
Sophie created the #RiseFierce movement to inspire women to try cold-water swimming, to promote body-neutrality and to improve mental and physical health. What started out as a few friends getting in the sea has now become a community of women across the world supporting and motivating each other to embrace the cold and take the plunge together.
We’re excited to be working with Sophie on awesome collaborations and we can’t wait for her to be involved in our sustainability journey. 👇

#dryrobeterritory post by @sophiehellyer - SAFETY SOPH // Reality is I’m in bed watching Netflix with my arm all bandaged up and a cold (note to self: don’t pour a thermos of boiling water down your arm) so there will be no swimming for me for the next week or so. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After all the positive responses from last weeks rise fierce x introducing series (link in bio) I thought I better run a little safety information from the NHS and me alongside, as swimming in cold water also has its risks. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Outdoor swimming in cold water saps your body heat, so your arms and legs get weaker quickly. If this happens, you could get into trouble if you're unable to get out of the water, so: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ * Wear a wetsuit for anything more than a quick dip (we are only staying in for 3-5 minutes at this time of year, and up to 25 minutes in the summer months) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ * Don't jump into cold water, wade in slowly instead ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ * Make sure you understand the tides, rips, currents and waves where you are swimming. If you don’t know, ask someone more experienced ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ * Never go alone, we always try to swim with a friend or two ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ * Swim close to the shore (if it’s rough we most often swim parallel to shore well within our depth) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ * Take warm clothes to put on afterwards - even in summer you'll feel colder when you get out. I wear a @dryrobe and get warmed up quick⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ * Take extra care in reservoirs, which are deeper and colder than lakes and rivers ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ * Shivering and teeth chattering are the first symptoms of hypothermia. If that happens, get out of the water and warm up ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ [photo: @owenmadeup] ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #risefierce #safetysoph #coldwaterswimming #wildswimming #outdoorswimmingsociety #reallifevsinstagram
