Rest in Power Daniel Johnston! I’m so heartbroken that one of my musical heroes is gone. In my darkest days his music helped me and influenced me to start playing guitar. I’m so grateful I was able to see him in 2008 and I still have the ticket stub and one of his prints! True Love Will Find You In The End is one of May favorites of all time. I don't usually like to pass much comment on celebrity/public figure's deaths or post things I've posted before but I'm breaking both of these tendencies because I found out last night that Daniel Johnston died. His music meant alot to me and while he was hardly a celebrity, he was a truly beautiful human being who was the truest and purest embodiment of an artist and art in general that I have ever encountered. He saw the beauty in everything in spite of the hand he was dealt (not his disability but the attitudes of people around him who didn't understand his art). His songs have helped me through some of the hardest times in my life and I made this illustration, featuring a line from the song Story of an Artist, earlier this year. The second image is an illustration by him for his album Don't be Scared. If you haven't heard of him, look him up you won't regret it.
