I called it this morning on Twitter, because it has sadly become a Griselda Records tradition (see last year’s “Mr. Fuji”) to pay homage to wrestling legends when they pass away. But of all the WWF/WWE Hall Of Fame legends and icons from my childhood that I do not want to say goodbye to, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan is near the top of the list.
Possibly the greatest heel manager in the history of professional sports entertainment, “The Weasel” was one of the few that can legitimately be dubbed hilarious. He knew how to drops memorable quotes, how to rile up crowds, how to make audiences both love him and hate him, and his schtick would have undoubtably played just as well to today’s audiences.
The one blessing we can come away with is this brand new track from the rap game’s very own “Hall & Nash,” Westside Gunn & Conway. The brothers from Buffalo put in some nice work over a two-for-one Daringer + Alchemist special (which also features a sample from Bobby himself, of course).
Rest in Peace, Brain. Thank you for being so delightfully unforgettable.
