and also, look how glurge-tastic the writing is on those suicide update posts. itâs straight out of a bad fanfic that gets 1000 âomg feelz, i crey 2 hrd :(â replies, and it works. glurge gets the naive reader so upset that their feelings do the thinking. thereâs no room left for doubt, being driven to tears by reading something sad shuts your critical thinking skills down like nobodyâs business, and boy do emotional abusers know it.Â
once the tears dry up, residual doubt is easily suppressed by banging the tumblr culture drum and reminding everyon that not believing people is hate and hate kills.
so the only people who arenât shouting are the ones who could actually do some goodâthe ones who know itâs not true and care about others and donât want to cause further harm.
add a winter vacation where peopleâs folks are too busy to really pay attention to what theyâre doing online, and youâve got a recipe for the sort of mass hysteria that could nudge a kid whoâs already wrestling with self-harm or suicidal thoughts over the edge just by keeping death and suicide and loss on their minds 24/7, let alone convincing them that there's a plague of suicides that they could fall victim to at any minute. posters on this tag gave me a lot of shit for âaccusing everyone of fakingâ (which i didnât doâ), but do you know whatâs actually a bit more wrong? lying about committing suicide. oh, and shushing people because thinking you may have been fooled makes you feel dumb.
these poor fankids were, and are, sitting ducks. and what about the troubled kids who fear they wonât be believed, now, if they reach out in a crisis, because 8-12 shitbags wanted to pull a social experiment over christmas break? what about all the kids who think anon hate will pour down on them because a bunch of assholes sent themselves mean notes ripping on whatever has their self-esteem low?
