#rillaz rambles

i love complaining so this isnt an issue for me! /lh

First off! Happy 20th Anniversary to Gorillaz! Heres a look on how their art style changed over the years! (phases 1/2 vs phases 5/6)

They've become super commercialized and after Phase 4 (Humanz) fans started seeing a decline in an actual message within their music: Their album, Plastic Beach, is completely based around pollution and how consumerist behavior is terrible for the environment.

Today they announced that theyll be supporting/using? ntfs, or 'non-fungible tokens' which are "digital tokens tied to assets that can be bought, sold and traded". This hinders artists from actually profiting from their own works. I still dont fully understand the point behind any type of crypto currency other than greed - but in short, this type of funds damages the environment and ruins what they were originally advocating against.

They became huge sellouts in recent years which was bound to happen - This goes against the ENTIRE IDEA behind Gorillaz. They (Jamie and Damon) created the band in order to experiment w/ different types of music bc they found it lacked substance. You can go as far to say the band members themselves mock real life artists for being sell outs, hence their movement 'Reject False Icons'. Which yknow, the irony of it all.

ILYSM2 SUNNY 😭🥺💖 OK LIKE its ugly but its murdoc (derogatory) yknow? the level of grime feels fitting and pleasing, almost in Nostalgic way /pos! in the last phase he felt very,, commercial and soft? so honestly, as much as i despise him and the fanbase most of the time,,, i can appreciate the direction jamie's taking w/ the art alone! @tex-treasures

mur//doc wanting to be famous so bad that he was willing to exploit ju//de for a short amount time (nonetheless, it happened). ju//de had a streak of modeling (as a child, im talking 1-7 years old) then found their passion in performing/singing/etc, so they were used to some attention but something happened in later years that eventually stopped them from doing said activites publicly. mur//doc finding out ab this and practically pressuing them to perform w/ him and they agreed to it just to please him and wanting to get on his 'friends' good side. honestly, it was fine until the adrenaline ran out and they panicked, maybe got a song or two in before they blanked and ran off someplace.

show ended early, mur//doc thought they were hanging out 'backstage' and overreacted, so he stormed off to find them, pretty pissed off since 'it was going well', found the kid standing out in the backalley and started ripping them - not realizing how harr they were trying to hold it together until they were audibly sobbing.

i like to believe there was a pang of guilt in all that mess since, ju//de had dropped major hints ab being too anxious to be on stage again that mur//doc mistook as being 'self conscious', 'humble', whatever the hell else, or simply thinking that theyd get over it as soon as they were in the moment. mur//doc being himself wasnt too familiar to the whole comforting thing but he piped down and tried to find a way to mend things. maybe he could talk his way out of it, but usually it ended w/ ju//de being more distressed.

backing up to give them some space to breathe, leaning agaisnt the wall across of ju//de and waiting things out w/ them. causally lighting a cigarette to pass the time and looking at the empty streets before reaching over and rubbing their arm w/ his free hand. w/ no verbal apologies, he handed offered them his smoke - the shaky drag they took made them choke and tear up, but at least this time they let out a weak, watery laugh from embarrassment. mur//doc knew he was slightly in the clear and took it as his cue to start talking them out of feeling so bad ab the night.
