âYes, Ranger! Run! Keep running!! Itâll get you nowhere, not with
your blood still fresh in the air!â
Her cackle rang high, and the former ranger was finding all of this too entertaining. When dealing with others of her past, from centuries ago, she recalled how some pleaded to be spared; how some never gave up, even in the face of imminent death. Rita preferred it when they had fight left to them, and not some sniveling coward, but these children?? They were something special.
âZordon really knows how to pick them, doesnât he? Lunatics, hot-heads,
and the ones with tons of companions⌠Yet, all I have seen from the lot of
you is that youâre all a bunch of weak children! Strong, yes physically,
because of Zordonâs power⌠But weak of mind, what with your hearts
far too focused on nonsense. Family⌠parentsâŚâ

Zack inhaled sharply at the sound of her booming voice and insidious cackle, both of which were like listening to the sound of nails on a chalkboard. Somehow, just her sound alone felt like enough to heighten his pain. Focus, he needed to focus. If he was bleeding- he needed to stop the blood.
Just then, Rita rang again. Another one of her twisted, psycho tangents. Zack knew better than to listen. However, he soon found that he couldnât stop taking it in word for word. It was as if, for a moment, all he knew was the sound of her voice.
â... Family... parents...â
Zackâs legs extended, further pushing him up. Hiding was getting him no where, quite literally. Inhale, exhale... With the adrenaline pumping through him, he could work through the pain. Itâd be hell, but he didnât have a choice, did he? Waiting for the others wasnât a solid plan. At the very least, Zack could stall her.
âYou think youâre the only one who fights because theyâre angry, huh- Rita?!â The black ranger shouted, the face of his armor lifting. âYouâre not the only one who feels like watching this God forsaken planet crash and burn!â His shoulders heaved, and he leaned into his own words. Beads of sweat clung to his forehead as a dull ache roared in his chest. âBut why should you be the one to do it?! Who are you to just show up and say when it all ends!â
They werenât lies. And perhaps thatâs what was killing Zack the most. He hated how people like him and his mother were forced to live. He hated greedy medical professionals and the entire system. He hated the so-called human beings with the audacity to not only ignore others in need but shove the heads of those they saw as lesser, underneath the water. He hated war, and he hated pain. He hated the fact that there were families out there going hungry in worse conditions than even he had experienced. He hated that people were suffering and nobody gave a damn.
But Zack be damned if he let some psycho alien bitch reign down and put all of their fighting to an end for the sake of amusement.
