Forged and built from all naval pieces, this rigging knife is perfect for sailing. The blade was forged with U.S. Naval Submarine ball bearings sandwiched between two layers of wrought-iron anchor chain from Hawaii. The pattern was manipulated to look like the rolling and crashing sea. The handle is made from an old belay pin from the Brig Niagara as is the rope inlaid into the handle. The handle is also decorated with swallows, a sturgeon and some fiddle head ferns. It is a commemorative blade made to celebrate my cousin’s time aboard the Brig Niagara (berthed in Erie, PA). He will put this knife to use this season cutting rigging line and carving a new ship’s figurehead... okay not the new figurehead but it will be a multi-use knife. I hope he is able to get a lifetime of use from this blade and even be able to pass it along one day.
