#rigelatin stuff

I've been working hard on replacing the fonts in The Gifts of Darkness. I think you can see that well from how I've been posting practically nothing else. I'm reposting a chapter every few days, but I'm going so hard that I've built myself a buffer.

Today I'm working on Chapter 14 out of 26. Over half done. Much more than over half actually, because all the longer chapters were the early ones. They also had smaller text, so I had to do some extra work enlarging balloons where needed.

The workflow is a bit excruciating because a lot of time is spent saving each page which locks the GIMP for other work. So while a page saves, I go select the text for the next page, go do something else for roughly a minute, then do the next page, save ... actually that's how I've been writing this post as well.

So I'm not drawing much in these days. But between pages, I've been working on what I want to make for Rigelatin for the Our Kingdoms Eternal site marathon. I'll fully commit myself to the new design for the main site after I'm done with the TGOD font swap, but in the meanwhile I'm working on other parts of the project... right now, I'm coding and designing the new guestbook.

That effect on the title with the text over the interrupted border - it's a fucked up repurposing of the rarely-seen <fieldset> and <legend> tags, which for some reason are styled in that way natively and it doesn't seem like there's anything else that works that way in HTML or in CSS. Why?! Ah well, whatever works...

I finally rebuilt my visual list of favorite characters, which I hadn't updated in years. As the description says, this list is so that my friends can know my favorite characters, and for myself to remember at a glance.

A few things I want to note:

I redid all the code from scratch. The older version was 10+ years old and all the additions made it become a jenga tower, so I decided to just raze it and rebuild. Rem units are really useful to code with from the beginning, at the end I need to change one single number to fix the scale for mobile.

I trimmed the list dramatically compared to its previous form because this time I asked myself a question for each character: if someone asked, would I be able to elaborate to my satisfaction why I love this character?

(It's still quite a long list though).

Through the years, several people have been inspired by my list to make their own, and I want to say: 1) I 100% approve 2) I don't even take any credit for the idea, it's such a simple thing, and 3) I also give full permission to reuse my code. Honestly, as far as I'm concerned, everyone should have a list like this :D

I’ve been meaning to do this for literally 4 years and now I finally did it! I’ve revamped Rigelatin, the site where I keep all my fandom writings / fansites / other fun stuff. Now with a new layout featuring my artwork of Kris Pokemon, the patron saint of the retconned and forgotten.

It’s Mewtwo’s birthday today! And, due to some absurd strike of luck, today I also managed to finish a little side project that I’ve been working on for a while now - a Mewtwo AMV, with the song One for Sorrow by Insomnium. It’s been 12 years since the last time I’ve made one of these!
