rip trevor's heart out: "i can't do this anymore, trevor."
Trevorâs gaze travelled quickly across her face in an attempt to read her; to read what she truly meant by those five words. He wanted denial to flood him, or even ignorant blissâ but he knew her far too well to not know what she was saying. Heâd be lying if he said this wasnât a fear always in the back of his mind, this gift⌠this curse held him captive and it was honestly only a matter of time before it drove her away.
He could argue the case, sure, though he know itâd do no good. Gemma was not one to say something in the heat of the moment that she didnât mean. This had obviously been on her mind for quite a while, and far too many horribly timed jumps later, sheâd finally snapped.
âItâs not fair of me to ask you to.â His whispered tone broke the silence, green hues remaining on her eyes; her heartbroken and tired eyes. This was the only woman he ever truly loved⌠the only one who saw him and all he was. All of those journal entriesâ meeting her had been such a big event. For all of this to end with five simple words⌠âtragedyâ didnât quite seem to do it justice.
But heâd been selfish far too long and couldnât bring himself to beg her to stay. So instead, he nodded gently, letting a stray tear trail down his face as he mentally committed her beautiful features to memory. âIâm so sorry.â The overused phrase was all he could offer as he began to feel himself being pulled elsewhere. Perfect timing as usual⌠the heartbroken manâs gaze never left her as he disappeared into another time.
