Ridhuan Tee defends himself

KUALA LUMPUR, May 26:

Sinar Harian columnist Ridhuan Tee Abdullah today defended himself against criticism by an English-language daily’s editorial which had accused him of facing an identity crisis.

The editorial had criticised him for speaking for and defending Malays by saying his mission had always been defending Islam and speaking the truth.

He said like it or not, Islam was now under threat, and  it was his duty to defend it.

He also said he was once a non-Muslim and knew of the dirty plans of some of them even if some of his Muslim friends would disagree. He respected their views.

Tee claimed the editor concerned did not know him and had not read his entire article, having just read a version of the article which had been spun by the paper’s website.

Ridhuan claimed the editor’s use of the example of mosques existing beside temples and churches as a symbol of racial unity was reflective of shallowness of thought.

He said the existence of houses of worship side by side would not necessarily mean harmonious living if the people were blind to history.

What was the use of being neighbours, he asked, when you are full of suspicion? That’s what’s happening, he said.

Tee went on to say that Lee Chong Wei vs Lin Dan was a naive example of showing love for Malaysia. Both are Chinese, he said, so one would naturally support a Malaysian Chinese over the Chinese from China.

He then questioned who would be supported when Chong Wei were to play Misbun (Sidek), or Lin Dan vs Misbun or Lin Dan vs Taufik Hidayat (Indonesia).

Tee, however, agreed with the editor’s view that non-Malays must make the effort to speak in Bahasa Malaysia as a language of unity.

“The same goes for the editor’s appreciation for the nation which was led by Malays and Malay teachers who had taught him to be an useful human being.”

Ridhuan Tee counters 10 non-Malay contributions

KUALA LUMPUR, May 12:

In an opinion piece, “flabbergasted” controversial Muslim convert Ridhuan Tee Abdullah presented a list of rebuttals to counter a similar list of how non-Malays had contributed greatly to Malaysia.

Ridhuan Tee claimed there were more than 5 million immigrants ready to replace those Malaysians who were ungrateful of the freedom and tolerance they had received.

“I am quite flabbergasted by some Malaysians who are not thankful for the freedom and tolerance they have enjoyed.

“In my opinion, more than 5 million immigrants have come here to earn a living and are waiting to replace them,” wrote Ridhuan Tee in an article printed in Bahasa Malaysia daily Sinar Harian.

Referring to an online list highlighting 10 contributions of non-Malays compared with Malays, Ridhuan Tee gave his own 10 points in why the list was wrong.

“First, he said non-Muslims are the largest contributors of tax revenue to the state. Wrong. I reply that the biggest contributors are Petronas and other GLCs. Do your homework thoroughly.

“Indirect taxes are consumption tax. Most are paid by Malays because they are the majority.

“Second, from a population of 29 million in the country, only two medals contributed from the 2012 Olympics were by non-Malays, Lee Chong Wei and Pandela Rinong.

“Why highlight 2012? There were many more years before that. What about the names of Mokhtar Dahari, Kamarudin Maidin and the Misbun Sidek family.”

In his third point, Ridhuan Tee admitted that although Jimmy Choo was a world famous shoe designer, he asked how many Jimmy Choo shoes were sold in the market compared with other brands of shoes.

“Fourth, the first (Malaysian) to scale the summit of Everest was M. Magendran in 1997. Why drop the Malays who climbed the highest mountain in the world after that?

“Do contributions of only the first person count? What of the first swimmer to cross the English Channel, namely Datuk Malik Maidin?

“Fifth, in the world motorsports championships, represented by Yoong Yin Fah, his son Alex Yoong and Karamjit Singh. I do not see their names as being so big in the world’s motorsports arena. They are just mediocre.”

For his sixth point, Ridhuan Tee said that although he admired the achievements of world-class international squash player Datuk Nicol Ann David, the sport was not included in the Olympics.

“Seventh, the Chinese were the first to operate mines around the 1820s until the 1980s. Who allowed this? Could they have peacefully earned a living if Malays had opposed them?

“Eighth, HN Ridley started rubber plantations in Malaya, contributing to the country’s wealth. Does the writer not know the purpose behind the colonists bringing in the crop?

“Was it for the country’s interest or their own? Today, palm oil has became a major commodity, not rubber.”

In point number nine, Ridhuan Tee said that atlhough BS Rajhan was the first Malaysian to create a Malay movie, Laila Majnun, he questioned the contributions of non-Malays today as well as their attitudes and perceptions of the Malay language.

“Tenth, was the design of the national mosque made ​​by Howard Ashley, with Hisham Albakri Kasim. Now, we have the designs of the Iron Mosque, Masjid Putra and Putrajaya itself.”

“Why not highlight their names? What about the names of Malay architects who also built skyscrapers in overseas markets like Mecca? Why are theirs muted?”

He also asked why security forces, which he claimed were basically Malays, were not thanked for defending the country.

“I want everyone to have mutual respect. We want to reveal a Malaysia that is peaceful, prosperous and united.

“He is the Adversary, Ridhuan.”

“Well, yes, he’s been holding out on-”

“No, you misunderstand: he is the enemy of all the children of Adam.”

His eyes were set squarely onto Jibri for a moment, before he remembered that she, of all the entities he's ever met, would know things to the limits of certainty. “...why hasn’t God smote him yet?”

“He walks amongst your kind now, Ridhuan, bound by the same rules as anyone else. He is but a trace of his former self, and the Lord no longer considers him worthy of attention.”

“He’s fallen? With that sort of skill, I can’t imagine what he’s capable of while in his prime.”

“Shaman, please elaborate.”

“I... provoked him into a fight.”

The lioness’ arms unfolded immediately. She leaned forward and half-reached out to Ridhuan. The changed look on her face and the glow of her turquoise eyes betrayed an uncharacteristic worry. “Jibri, I’m alright, but he found out about you. About what we were doing.”

She placed one elegant hand upon her chest, and nodded. "He must have had some amount of respect for you."

"Hardly. He had nothing good to say to me."

"No, listen: he does."

"Why are you so certain?"

"Do it, Ridhuan. Do your duty." The tip of the kris had touched the skin of his adversary's throat, and his other palm was ready to apply a thrust and finish the deed. His opponent had one hand pressed against a wound in his side, courtesy of an earlier, disabling stab. "You were born to be this generation's Black Moon, and you have bested me in combat. You know I will not stay down. I deserve no less than death. Protect your beloved country."

Above them, a crackling storm brewed. Roars much louder than the thunder reverberated through the air around them, seemingly coming from both ends of the Causeway cutting through the Johor Strait. Ridhuan's eyes flicked towards his homeland, then to the island nation, then back to the fallen magus.

"No." Ridhuan pulled the dagger back and returned it to his waist belt. "You are going to live, and you are going to see me bring your miserable plans to ruin."
