One last addition to my behind the scenes look at shooting Crater Lake this weekend. It doesn't look like it now seen on my cameras monitor but this was the one I was most excited to challenge myself with, and the one that took the most logistical planning. In a nutshell, this is a single frame of 27, from what will be a panoramic of all of Crater Lake with the Milky Way "erupting" from Wizard Island. Spent a day figuring out when and where so the milky way would be in the right spot before leaving Portland yesterday. Scoped out the physical location earlier today then returned at about 9:30. I would have about a half hour window from 10-10:30 with above wizard island. Hiked in with the cam gear and a headlamp, began piecing together the foreground until it lined up, each of the 18 frames taking about 2-3 minute exposures. Then you're suddenly moving fast to shoot the sky, in pitch black on a 2000 foot cliff edge, before stars move to far to stitch or blur. A few hours pre-planning, 8 hours drive time, a 16 hour day shooting. I'm wrapped and clocked out after this one, maybe.
