They were lucky to have stumbled upon the place where food and drink was in abundance. The beer washed the food down Rickâs throat; it was by no means chilled, nor was it fresh, but there in the moment with Michonne, things were just better. The food was better; the makeshift furniture was better; everything was better.
Rick placed the bottle down and continued to eat. His gaze found her once more, over the improvised table, as she enjoyed their meal. Her pretty features bathed in the warm glow of the candleâs light. And the whole scene was so soft. So goddamn soft that Rick wanted to cry because he knew it was not going to last. He knew that soon, they would have to pack up what they had found, and return to the Safe-Zone; back to their lives. Oh, how he wished that this could be their lives: Romantic candlelit dinners with the woman he loved. And boy did he love his Michonne.
âThis feels like date night,â he said, causing her to look up from her ready-to-eat meal.
âYeah,â she replied. âIt does.â
âIf things were different, I could take you out on dates all the time,â Rick mused, somewhat pensively.
Michonne sighed happily and then smiled.
âThatâd be nice,â she proffered. âWhat would we do?â
âMore dinners like this, but better,â he said. âDinners where I could pull the chair out for you.â
âHey, you set the pillows down here for me,â Michonne reminded him. âThatâs good enough.â
Rick smiled at her.
âWeâd go out dancinâ, too,â he said.
Michonne tilted her head to the side and gave him a questioning look, before saying, âI didnât take you for the dancing type.â
âIâll have you know that Iâm an excellent dancer,â he said.
âReally?â
âYes, really,â said Rick with mirth in his eyes.
âWell, whatâre we waiting for?â asked Michonne, as she placed her meal down and got to her feet.
âYou wanna dance now?â asked Rick, with a raised eyebrow.
âSure.â
âWe ainât got any music,â he replied.
âJust hum something to me,â Michonne suggested. âLike you do to get Judith to sleep.â
âAlright, then,â said Rick as he smiled up at her, and shifted to stand.
He wiped his hands on his jeans and then closed the distance between himself and Michonne. He took her hand in his before placing his other hand to her back, pulling her in close. She rested her head on his shoulder as they began to move their bodies slowly. He hummed the melody of some old love song as he and the love of his life swayed together in the soft candlelight.

A/N: Richonne first night apart AU written for @richonnefics âthe very first challengeâ.
âThe big boss wants a face to face meeting. Heâll be in at eight in the morningâ, said Shane. Rick looked at Shane with tired eyes.  âWhat do you mean?â He asked with a little force than necessary. Shane shrugged and replied, âDonât shoot the messenger, he just texted me and Iâm just passing on the messageâ.  Rick signed deeply and silently wondered what the chief of police wanted to talk to him about that early in the morning. They had just wrapped up an investigation and Rick was looking forward to heading home to Michonne. He looked at his watch, it was two oâclock in the morning. He had a two-hour ride home and with a morning meeting at eight, it didnât make sense to drive home and be back in just a matter of a few hours. âI should get a room at the hotel around the corner and sleep for a few hoursâ, thought Rick.  âHere you goâ, Rick gave Shane the keys to the cruiser they had arrived in, âIâll stay over at the hotel and catch a ride home with one of the officers after I talk with the bossâ. The hotel was a block away from the police station, so Rick stepped into the night to walk the few steps to the hotel.
It was a crisp, quiet night. The sky was clear and bright with the stars sprinkled and twinkling all around. Rick looked at the sky and smiled remembering his fourth date with Michonne. Theyâd planned on going to watch the sunrise and decided to meet just before dawn at the townâs campsite that overlooks the pond. Theyâd found a comfortable spot near the pond where they could get a good view of the sunrise. The sky was still mostly dark, with a hint of orange rays from the sun starting to peer from the horizon. The stars were twinkling across the sky as they are tonight. âI didnât expect to see so many starsâ, said Michonne. âNeither did Iâ, Rick had noted as he smiled at Michonne. They were both spellbound by the stars for a while until Rick heard Michonne say âwow, the sunrise is really beautifulâ, as she snapped several pictures with her cellphone. Rick looked over the horizon and was met with an amazing glow of orange. Michonne was right, the scene was beautiful, breathtakingly beautiful.  Rick looked over at Michonne, reached out and took her hand in his and squeezed gently to catch her attention. Michonne turned to Rick and when her warm brown eyes met his, Rick said, âSunrise marks the beginning of a new day, and there is no one I would rather share this moment with than youâ. âI want it to be this way for the rest of our lives if youâll have meâ. Michonneâs eyes had turned big and soft and then sheâd answered by crushing her lips to his and kissed him deeply. Â
A car horn jolted a smiling Rick from his memory. Shane was waving at him as he drove by. Rick waved back and wished he was in that car heading home to Michonne. He missed her and wanted to talk to her and share how beautiful the night sky was and what it had reminded him of. Heâd last talked to her earlier that night around ten oâclock and told her not to wait up for him as it would take him a few more hours to wrap up the investigation and drive home. After Rick was settled in his hotel room and lying in bed, heâd texted Michonne to let her know that he would stay over as he had a meeting with chief of police first thing in the morning. He ended the text with âI love and miss youâ. He yearned to hear her voice, but it was late to call her as sheâd be sleeping at that late hour. Â Rick looked at the pillow next to him and thought how strange and lonely it was that Michonne wasnât lying next to him. Theyâd only been married for 6 months and had never spent a night apart. He sighed and willed sleep to come soon as he needed to rest so he could have a clear head at the meeting in the morning.
Rick had barely closed his eyes or so he thought when there was a loud knock on the door. He opened his eyes slightly and thought it might have been a dream or someone was knocking on the door at the room next to his. He looked at the time. It was six-thirty. He rubbed his eyes and stretched in bed. Another loud knock and this time he was sure that the knock was on his door. He jumped out of bed to open the door wondering if the person didnât see the âdo not disturb sign. Â He quickly unlocked the door and pulled it open and was met with a smiling Michonne holding two cups of coffee âI love you and missed you tooâ, she said.
Shout out to @severelybabykryptonite for holding my hand as I wrote and posted my first fanfiction.
Rick glanced up from his book and watched as the order was claimed by its beautiful owner. As the woman turned from the counter, she locked eyes briefly with Rick and offered him a small smile before claiming her usual window seat.
Rick tried to keep his own smile in check as he took a sip of coffee and went back to reading.
Rick was convinced the interest was one-sided, but an incident two months ago had him questioning that belief. Â Rick had been taking a bite of his breakfast bagel when he felt eyes on him. When he looked up, he spotted Michonne in her seat looking his way. She waved in his direction with the beginnings of a smile on her face. Shocked and pleased, Rick was about to offer Michonne a smile in return. However, he looked around and behind him first just in case sheâd been waving at something one else. He didnât need that type of humiliation. Seeing no one else nearby, Rick had turned back towards Michonne, but it was too late. Michonne was engrossed in her book and stayed that way, not even sparing Rick so much as a glance when he got up to leave.
And try as he might, Rick could never catch Michonneâs eyes again...until today.
I caught her eyes and a smile. It was quick, but a smile nonetheless.
The smile Rick had been trying to contain earlier, bloomed, unbidden, on his face. So lost was he in thought, that Rick failed to notice Michonne looking at him in a way that would have left him without any doubt that the interest was mutual. Â
Rick almost turned around and went straight home, but something made him get at the end of the long line of patrons waiting to place their orders. A few minutes into his wait, Rick heard his name called and looked up to see barista Ryan motioning him to the front of the line, his regular order ready. Rick sheepishly moved past the other customers who threw exasperated looks his way.
âIt was a call-in order,â Ryan offered in explanation to the crowd. It was a ball-faced lie that was gratefully and handsomely rewarded by Rick at the tip jar.
Rick was about to head for the exit when he saw Michonne in a booth waving him over. Not about to repeat his mistake from two months ago, Rick bounded over to Michonne.
âHi. Um...space is really limited today. Even my window seat was taken when I got here. I guess the foot traffic from the street festival spilled over here.â
âYeah, it sure looks like it.â Rick agreed.
âWell, if youâre looking for a place to sit, we can share this booth. Only if you want to, of course. You might have been on your way outââ
âNo!â
Michonne looked taken aback and Rick rushed to clarify.
âNo, I donât mean no to you! Sorry! Itâs been a long day already and itâs not even noon. My mouth and my brain arenât working as a team at the moment.â Rick slid into the booth. âWhat I meant to say was that Iâd love to share the booth with you. Thank you for the kind offer.â
âYouâre welcome.â Michonne offered Rick a quick smile.
Suddenly nervous now that he was sitting across from Michonne, Rick cleared his throat and searched for something to say. âOh, my name!â
âWhat?â
âI didnât introduce myself. My name isââ
âRick...half caf and steak, egg, and cheese bagel sandwich.â
Rick nodded and laughed, inordinately pleased that Michonne hadnât been as oblivious to him as he thought.
âAnd youâre Michonne...chai tea and chocolate croissant.â
Michonne smiled fully and Rick was sure he forgot how to breathe for a second. Â
Now that smile was worth waiting for.
Rick held out a hand which Michonne readily shook. Their nervousness evaporated upon that first touch.
Twenty minutes later, the couple arrived at the local art museum. Michonne gasped when she realized where they were headed for the night.
âYou got us tickets to the History of Fashion in Art exhibit? Rick, this is perfect! I was planning to buy a ticket for myself. What made you think of this?â
âYouâve set the bar high for our first date, Rick. Iâm going to have bring my âAâ game when I plan our next one.â
âSo, thereâs going to be a second date?â Rick asked hopefully.
âOf course. I knew there was going to be a second one when I said yes to this first one.â
Michonne clasped one of Rickâs hands in her own and led the smiling man up the steps and into the museum.

First Kiss
âHold up. You mean to tell me you really didnât kiss her on the first date?â
Rick rolled his eyes. âNo, we didnât kiss. How many times do you want me to repeat it, Shane?â
âUntil you can make it make sense. Cause right now, Iâm not understandinâ it. Didnât you have a good time on your date?â
âI had a great time.â
âAnd she had a great time?â
âYeah.â Rick smiled. âI really think she did.â
âThen why the hell didnât yâall kiss?â
âIt wasnât the right time.â
âWasnât the right time?â Shane asked, incredulous. âDid her lips fall off?â
âNo.â
âDid your lips fall off?â
Rick sighed, exasperated. âNo, Shane.â
âThen Iâm still not understanding how it wasnât the right time. How did yâall end the date if you didnât kiss?â
âWith a hug.â
âA HUG!? A hug?!â
âDo you need a hug, Shane? You seem really agitated right now,â Rick said dryly.
âI donât understand why you arenât agitated. Your ass just got friend-zoned and youâre up here talking about the date smiling all big and shit like you just won the lottery.â
âI didnât get friend-zoned. Weâre going out on another date.â
âWhen?â
âWe havenât decided yet. Our first date was just last night.â
âMhhhmm. And the fact that you are talking about it with me this morning instead of having some pillow talk with your date tells me your date was a flop.â
âThe fact that Iâm talking to you about it this morning tells me I should have waited for Glenn to get off the phone with Maggie so I could have this conversation with him.â
âYou wound me brother.â
âLook, Shane, it took me three months to build up the courage to even ask Michonne out, Iâm not gonna risk messing things up by making the wrong move or moving too fast. I want Michonne to be comfortable. I really like her.â
âDid you ask Michonne what she wanted?â
âWhat do you mean?â
âDid you ask her if she wanted a kiss goodnight?â
âNo.â
âHow else are you gonna know if you donât ask?â
âThat seems a bit forward. Besides, what if sheâd said ânoâ?â
âRick, from all youâve told me about last night and everything with yâall before that, she wasnât gonna say ânoâ, all she was gonna say was âlay it on me, daddy.â
âMichonne doesnât talk like that.â
âWell she should cause that shitâs sexy as hell. There was this one chick I was seeinâ that liked to call me âThe Punisherâ. You want to know why?â
âAbsolutely not,â Rick answered.
âYour loss. Anyway, what are you gonna do about Michonne? You obviously want to kiss her.â
âI do. I really do. But I already told you Iâm not going to rush things.â
âHave you talked to Michonne since your date?â
âWell, there you go, brother. She likes you. You like her. Go with that. Everything else will fall into place. Go at whatever pace works for yâall. But donât wait too long to kiss her,â Shane warned. âYou donât want her to think youâre not interested or that you donât find her desirable.â
Rick looked at Shane in surprise at his about-face and his logical advice.
âHey, man. Imma livin the thot life by choice at the moment, but I do know how to court a woman. My mama raised me right.â
Rick raised a brow.
âJust because I choose to ignore my home training doesnât mean it donât exist. Iâm living my best life right now, okay? Iâll settle down when the time comes.â
âTake it from me, that time might come sooner than you think.â
âWait, are you thinking Michonneâs âThe Oneâ?â
âIâm not saying that. Itâs too soon for that, right? Weâve only really known each other a few months. Â But...â Rick sighed. âI donât know...there is just something about her...from the very first moment I laid eyes on her...â
Shane shook his head with a chuckle. âYour ass is gone, man. I call dibs on being your best man.â
âFirst of all, youâre getting ahead of yourself. Second of all, what about Glenn?â
âHe can be your maid of honor.â
*****
âDid you want to kiss him?â
Michonne paused looking through her closet and faced her best friend. âOf course I wanted to kiss him, Andrea. Iâve wanted to kiss Rick for months now.â
âSo why didnât you just kiss him at the end of your date last night?â
âWhat would he have thought of me if Iâd just hauled off and kissed him?â
âWell, if the opinion of your overly muscled ex is anything to go by, Rick would have thought you were a damn good kisser.â
Michonne rolled her eyes at the mention of her ex. âPlease donât bring Mike up. Heâs taken up way too much of my time recently.â
âIs he still texting you?â
âYes. He texted me last night before my date with Rick and again this morning. Itâs like he can sense that Iâm finally moving on. After six months of radio silence, now heâs sending messages saying he wants to meet for lunch and that heâs sorry and heâs changed.â
âJust block his number.â
âYou really think I should? I was hoping heâd just take the hint when I didnât respond.â
âYou are giving this man too much credit and consideration. This is the same guy who left you behind to âfind himselfâ overseas and expected you to wait for him until he decided when or even if he was going to return to the States. And instead of just finding himself, he found himself with someone else and then sent you a âDear Michonneâ text and cut off all contact. Now that the fling is over and heâs back he wants things to go back to how they were as if he never left.â Andrea sucked her teeth. âBlock his ass...and kiss Rickâs.â
Andrea laughed at Michonneâs shocked expression. âI didnât mean Rickâs literal ass...unless thatâs something yâall end up being into as a couple. There was this one guy I used to see that liked me toââ
âDo not finish that sentence, Andrea. Itâs way too early in the morning.â
âFine, Iâll tell you later. What you need to do now is block Mikeâs number.â
âI will. But what I really need to do now is find something to wear. I donât want to be late for Rick.â Michonne moved back to her closet.
âYou saw the man less than twelve hours ago. And you see him at the coffee shop just about every day.â
âAgain, I say, you saw the man less than twelve hours ago.â
âI know. Is that crazy?â
âActually, no, I donât think thatâs crazy. I think thatâs love.â
âLetâs not jump the gun, Andrea. It was one date.â
âOne amazing date after months of anticipation on your part. I still remember the first time you told me about him. Youâve wanted that man from the word âgo.ââ
âIâm not having this conversation now.â Michonne held up revealed her final outfit selection to Andrea. âWhat do you think?â
Andrea let out a whistle. âI think that whole âno kissâ situation will be rectified before your chai tea gets cold.â
âHey you.â Rick slid out of the booth and gathered Michonne in a hug. âHow are you?â
âIâm good...great actually.â Michonne answered as they sat down. âHow are you?â
âNever better.â
âI hope I didnât keep you waiting too long.â
âNo, not at all.â
âGood, we can go place our order now.â
âActually---â
âRick and Michonne...order for two!â
âI already took care of it,â Rick finished. âBe right back.â
Rick returned with a tray laden with both their regular orders.
âThank you, Rick. That was so thoughtful.â
âIt was nothing, really.â
Michonne bit into her croissant and closed her eyes and moaned slightly at the intermix of buttery croissant and bittersweet chocolate.
This never disappoints.
Michonne opened her eyes to find Rick watching her closely. She held her croissant out to him.
âYou want to try it?â
Your lips...yeah? But the croissant will do for now. âYes, thank you.â
Rick leaned forward and let Michonne feed him a bite of croissant. His lips grazed her fingers as he pulled away.
Michonne swallowed hard at the contact. Now if only my lips were so lucky. âDo you like it?â
Rick licked his lips, savoring the flavor. The taste of your fingers...absolutely. âDelicious.â
The byplay wasnât lost on either of them. Try as they might to focus on the conversation at hand, both Rick and Michonne were distracted with thoughts of what did and didnât happen between them the night before. Unconsciously, the eyes of one would stray down to the mouth of the other as they talked.
âRick, I just wanted to tell you again how much fun I had last night.â
âI did, too. I really enjoyed the exhibit. Who knew I had a passion for fashion?â Rick joked. âBut I enjoyed your company most of all.â
Michonne smiled sweetly. âIt was nice spending time with you, too.â
âIâm looking forward to our next date.â
âMe, too. When did you want to go?â
Tonight! Dang, play it cool, Rick. âUh, whatâs a good time for you?â
Tonight! Girl, donât be overeager! âIf youâre not working, maybe we can try something on Wednesday.â
âWednesday it is.â Rick looked at his watch and grimaced. âI really hate to do this, but I have to go. My shift starts soon.â
Michonne tried to temper her disappointment. âOh...okay.â
âWhat are your plans for the rest of the day?â
Michonne turned her cell over when she noticed a new message pop up. âIâll probably just go home for a bit and then meet up with some girlfriends.â
âCan I stop by to see you on my way home tonight? I promise it wonât be too late.â
Rick had gotten into the habit of calling Michonne on his way home from work. She liked hearing his voice and knowing heâd made it safely through his shift. He liked hearing about her day or, if he was on the night shift and coming home early in the morning, he loved talking to her as she got ready for the day. Her voice soothed him in a way nothing or no one else could.
âYeah, Iâd like that. Now, youâd better get going so you arenât late. Have a good day and be safe.â
âMichonne, if I donât ask you this, itâs going to weigh on me all day.â
âWhat is it, Rick?â
âMay I kiss you? I wanted to last night but I didnât want to seem too forward. If you arenât ready for that, itâs okay. Iâll waiââ
Rick fell back slightly as Michonneâs body suddenly landed against him and her lips covered his. He quickly recovered and wrapped his arms around her and pulled her even closer.
âI guess you were open to the idea?â Rick joked softly once the kiss ended.
Michonne smiled shyly. âMaybe just a little.â
âI really hate that I have to go now. But Iâll see you tonight.â
âIâm looking forward to it.â
Rick glanced at Michonneâs lips before meeting her eyes once again. âOne more for the road?â
Michonne nodded as Rick quickly closed the distance between them.
A/N: Â Just a short AU happy for our fave couple. Â Hope you enjoy.Â
The quiet room begins to fill with light as the sun slowly begins its ascent into the sky. Â Rick Grimes opens his eyes with a smile as the soothing scents of his surroundings assail him. Â The softly scented sheets, the faint but pleasant aroma drifting throughout the entire room, and the distracting hint of fragrance coming from the warm body next to his.Â
He looks over as she slumbers peacefully, allowing his eyes to take in what little he could see in the dimness. Â He remembers her skin, her body.....the texture, the taste, the tone when he allowed himself to partake of every inch of her the night before. Â He pushes his body towards the headboard, his back resting against the cushioned fabric and a couple of pillows and watches her as the room slowly grows brighter.Â
Her face is turned away, so he takes in her long dark coils splayed across her pillow, her shoulder, and down her bare back. Â The sheet is bunched at her waist and a beautiful brown thigh is peeping out on the opposite side. Â He feels himself react and decides he should probably do something to cool off especially after the marathon of lovemaking theyâd had. Â They were both insatiable, but he doesnât want to overdo it.
He rises from the bed, grabbing his boxers from the floor as he walks to the adjoining bathroom. Â He emerges moments later to see the room illuminated with even more light from the rising sun. Â He looks toward the sheer curtains and glides to the windows to get a better view. Â Spectacular he thinks to himself as he watches the city of Atlanta come alive from her high-rise apartment floor to ceiling pane. Heâd been to her place plenty of times before but for some reason the view has taken on a lot more meaning now.
He turns back to the woman in bed and his heart starts to race as he realizes heâs falling in love with her. Â He takes a deep breath and releases it as he returns his gaze to the world outside.Â
Michonne Hawthorne opens her eyes with a couple of lazy blinks and locks in on the sight at the window. He is standing with his broad-shouldered back to her, his dark boxers hugging him snugly, his brown curls wild and unruly. Â She smiles almost shyly as the memories of his mouth and hands on her return. Â She can still feel his possession like no other and she cannot wait to experience it again.
She turns onto her back, pulling the sheets to cover her breasts. Â âGood morning.â
The object of her desire turns to face her and smiles so wide that his eyes sparkle. Â âGood morninâ.â
âHow are you?â Â She can feel her face spread with happiness as his smile is so infectious.
âIâm great. Â Never better. Â You?â
She nods slowly, unable to keep her eyes from roving his body, head to toe. âBetter than great. Â Are you hungry?â
âIâm starvinâ.â Â He attempted to keep his desire checked but the glow in her toffee brown eyes tells him that she is just as hungry as he is.
Her body is immobile as he walks toward her with a slight predatory gait, lifts the sheets and climbs into bed beside her. Â
He wraps an arm around her waist, holding her close. Â âWe could get dressed and drive to Daleâs for breakfast or we could prepare something here or we could just stay in bed and feast on each other.â
An actual tremor roams through her body at the deep vibration of his voice. Â She couldnât utter a word even if she wanted to, so she answers him with a caressing hand on his chest and her lips at his neck.
The Very First...Vignettes (Part II)- Carolina-Bleus
Part I
First Disagreement...First I Love You
âWhoâs Mike?â
Michonne looked up to see Rick holding her tablet. âWhat?â
âMike. A message from him popped up on your tablet as I was bringing it out here. The preview said âMichonne, I miss you and I want to see you.â Iâm trying real hard not to jump to conclusions but...â
Michonne wasnât going to lie to Rick.
âHeâs my ex-boyfriend.â
Rick nodded slowly. He had figured as much, but it was still a punch to the gut to have it confirmed. âHow recent of an ex?â
âMy most recent.â
âDoes that make me the rebound?â
âWhat?! No! Mike and I were over long before you and I ever even met.â
âWho ended things? You or him?â
âHe moved overseas and was gone for six months. Then he met someone new andââ
âSo he ended it,â Rick interrupted.
âNo, being gone six months weakened an already floundering relationship. Him meeting someone just sped up the inevitable.â
âOkay, if he found someone new and youâve been over for months, why is he texting you now?â
He should be a detective with all of these questions. âMike came back home and he wanted to meet and talk.â
âAbout what?â
âI donât know, Rick,â Michonne huffed. âWhy donât you text him back and see?â
âWhy are you getting an attitude with me? Â Iâm not the one texting an ex behind your back.â
âIâm not texting him behind your back!â
âHow am I supposed to know that? I wouldnât have even known he was texting you if I hadnât asked me to grab your tablet.â
âRick, you have the password to my tablet, just like I have the password to yours. If I was trying to keep this such a big secret, I wouldnât have given you access to a device thatâs linked to my phone and receives all of my messages!â
âFirst of all, you know I wouldnât invade your privacy and go into your messages. Second, why didnât you just tell me he was texting you?â
âThis...â Michonne motioned between her and Rick âThis right here is why I didnât tell you. I knew it would cause problems where it really shouldnât.â
âWell, that plan didnât work out too well.â Rick started gathering his things.
âWhere are you going?â
âIâm going home.â
âAre you serious right now?! Youâre overacting without even knowing the whole story.â
âRick, that is not even remotely the same and you know that. I was never engaged to Mike.â
âHow would I know that since this is the first Iâm even hearing about Mikeâs existence? I thought we didnât keep secrets, Michonne.â
âWe donât.â
âThen why didnât you tell me about Mike?â
âBecause heâs in my past.â
âIs he? That text message says something different.â
Michonne shook her head as tears sprang to her eyes. âYou are being really unfair right now. Youâre building this whole scenario in your head without even letting my explain.â
âI just need to go get some air right now.â
âAre you coming back?â Michonne asked softly.
âI donât think that would be a good idea tonight.â Rick bent down and placed a kiss on Michonneâs cheek. âIâm not angry with you. Iâm just...â
âJust what?â
Afraid. Â âNothing. Iâll talk to you later.â
***
If Michonne didnât tell me about this guy, then she must still have some kind of feelings for him. Or is Michonne right and Iâm overreacting? I mean if she was really trying to hide something, she wouldnât have given me such easy access to her phone and tablet. But, still, why is he still texting her? And why is he telling her that he misses her and wants to see her? How long have they been in contact?
Rick sighed as thoughts ran rampant in his head. It had been a couple of hours since heâd left Michonneâs and he hadnât thought about much else. His thoughts were going in circles at this point; the same questions coming up again and again with no answers. âI should have stayed and talked it out with her instead of acting like a jealous ass.â
Rickâs phone suddenly dinged with a notification. He picked it up and saw a message from Michonne. He was actually afraid to open in, not knowing what heâd find.
âWhatever she says, I deserve it.â Taking a calming breath, Rick opened the text and found screenshots of text messages between Michonne and Mike. His heart racing, Rick began to read.
âMike, after six months of no communication and nearly a year of miscommunication before that, I thought I would never hear from you again. Honestly, I was completely okay with that prospect. But I realized that by not answering, I was allowing you to assign your own meaning to my silence...allowing you take it to mean more than it really does. Iâm answering you now because I donât want there to be any confusion or misunderstanding about where we stand and how I feel about you. Iâm not angry anymore. Iâm not hurt anymore. Iâve moved on with my life.
These past six months have shown me I can live without you. I can be happy without you. I can be me without you. I am better without you. I needed the distance, the separation, and the silence to gain clarity and see what we both should have a long time ago...we donât work as anything more than friends. We were amazing friends and thatâs what we should have remained. Â But because we had so much in common, we forced our connection beyond where it was meant to go and now we can never go back to what we were only meant to be...friends.
But this really isnât about what you and I were, itâs about what me and someone else are becoming, what we could be. Iâve met an amazing man. We are so different in so many ways, but it works for us. I am happy with him. I can be myself with him. I am better with him. And, though heâs only been in my life a short while, I already canât fathom not having him in it. This man and I are building something. Itâs something honest and pure and fun and natural...something unforced. Â I canât wait to see where it goes. But I before I can move forward with him and the future weâre building, I have to leave you and our relationship in the past where it belongs. I canât and wonât risk what could be with my guy over what was never going to be with you.
Just as I did when you moved on, please respect me and my relationship enough to stop trying to contact me.
I wish you well. Â
Rick looked at the date and time the message was sent. It was morning after their first date.
Rick began to read the text message after that. The one Mike sent today.
âMichonne, I miss you and I want to see you, but I understand why that canât happen. I was hurt when I read your message. I couldnât...or wouldnât...accept what you were saying. I tried to explain it away as being anger, hurt, or revenge on your part. But now I know it was none of those things. It was simply the truth.
Iâm sorry for not following your request to not contact you. I do respect you and your relationship. And I am in full support of both. You deserve all the happiness in the world and it looks like you have found that. Â
Michonne, I am truly sorry for hurting you. I hope that one day we can be friends again because I really do miss you as my friend.
Rick tossed his phone on the bed and closed his eyes. âIâm a fucking idiot.â His eyes popped open as he quickly sat up. âI gotta go see Michonne and apologize and hope she doesnât slam the door in my face.â
***
Michonne let Rick into her apartment without a word.
The couple stared at each other, each gathering their thoughts and their courage before speaking.
âIâm sorry.â They said simultaneously.
âMichonne, you donât have anything to be sorry for. Iâm the one in the wrong here. I should have trusted you...trusted us.â
âI should have never given you a reason to doubt me or us. I should have told you about Mike and the messages.â
âYou see how well I reacted when you did tell me. So maybe you made the right call.â
âNo, I didnât. We made a vow to tell each other everything and I didnât do that.â
Rick sighed. âBut I didnât tell you everything either.â
âWhat didnât you tell me?â
âI didnât tell you why I was so upset. Like I said earlier, I wasnât angry. I was afraid.â
âAfraid of what?â
âOf losing you, of losing what we have.â Rick took Michonneâs hand and walked her over to sit on the couch.
âMichonne, these past six months with you have been the best of my life. Theyâve almost felt too good to be true. Ever since our first date three months ago, Iâve been feeling like Iâm in a dream. And every minute Iâm afraid someone is going to wake me up and Iâll discover that none of this was real or you will suddenly realize you can do better and leave.â
âFirst of all, this is real, Rick. Iâm real...weâre real. Iâm in this and I donât plan on going anywhere. Second, there is no one who is better for me than you.â Michonne caressed Rickâs face. âIf this is going to work, you have to trust what we have.â
âI do trust what we have. Â This was about me not trusting myself and being afraid of what I was feeling...how soon I was feeling it. But after reading what you wrote to Mike about us, Iâm not afraid anymore. I trust us and what we have, Michonne. And I trust you. I trust you with my life. I trust you with my heart. And I trust you with my love. I love you, Michonne. I have for a while now.â
Michonneâs face immediately broke into a joyous smile. âI love you, too, Rick.â
Rick kissed Michonne slowly before pulling away with a rueful laugh. âI waited so long to tell you that because I was so scared of what you would say. Iâve told you âI love youâ a thousand times over in my head...every time we met up and every time we parted and all the space in between. It feels good to finally say it out loud and even better to hear you say it back.â
âWell, you better love hearing it, because youâre going to hear it from me every day.â
âYou promise?â
âYeah. Do you?â
Rick nodded and the couple sealed their promise with a kiss.

First Trip
Michonne snuggled deeper into Rickâs embrace with a contented sigh.
âIâm so glad we decided to come here.â
Rick leaned forward and kissed Michonneâs bare shoulder. âMe, too. But you sure youâre not missing the beach?â
âNot at all. The beach would have been way too crowded. Itâs so beautiful and peaceful here. This is exactly what I needed...along with you.â
Michonneâs private law practice had grown immensely in the past six months with new clients and personnel. On the one hand, she was ecstatic but, on the other hand, she was exhausted. She hadnât taken a real vacation in the near year she and Rick had been dating. Beyond day trips on the weekend to special events or to visit family and friends, Michonne hadnât felt comfortable being away from her firm for an extended period of time. She knew the first year was crucial to the success of any business. But now that she had successfully made it to year two with no signs of slowing down, Rick knew it was time for Michonne to take a break and time some time for herself. So he surprised her with a trip to the mountains as an early one-year anniversary present.
âI still canât believe you were in cahoots with Rachel and Tonya planning all of this.â
Rick worked with Michonneâs assistant and law associate to make sure her vacation leave was secured with the courts and that her calendar was clear of all obligations for an entire week.
âI knew I couldnât leave any detail undone if I wanted you to actually relax on this trip.â
âYou know me well. And you did such a great job planning everything, that Iâm leaving all of our future vacation planning up to you. Youâre pretty damn good at it. Iâd even let you plan our honeymoon.â
âHoneymoon? So you want to get married?â Rick asked slowly.
âWell...yeah eventually.â Michonne turned her head towards Rick. âDonât you?â
âDo I? Babe, I knew you were it for me you before our first date was over.â
Michonne smiled in relief. âOh really? It took you that long? I knew when we walked up the museum steps hand-in-hand. Our kiss the next day just confirmed it,â she joked.
Rick chuckled. âThe kiss sealed the deal, huh?â
âYep. That and your kindness, thoughtfulness, sincerity, and your humility. Of course, that accent and those bowed legs of yours didnât hurt either.â
âWell, for me it was your confidence, your warmth, your intellect, and your heart. Throw in that smile and those eyes and I never stood a chance.â Rick grew serious as he looked into Michonneâs eyes. âI love you, Michonne.â
âI love you, too, Rick.â
âItâs hard to fathom that 18 months we had never even spoken a word to each other and now I canât bear to go a day without hearing your voice or seeing your face. Having you in my life these past 15 months has taught me so much about life, about love, and about myself. The better I got to know you, the better I got to know myself. And after a year together, there are four things I know with absolute certainty.â
Michonne sat up and turned fully towards Rick. âWhat are they?â
âI know that Iâm happy with you. I know that I can be myself with you. I know that I am better with you.â
Michonneâs eyes glistened with tears as Rick recited the words sheâd written about him nearly a year ago.
âMost of all, I know that I canât live without you. Michonne...will you marry me?â
Tears spilled down her face and Michonne nodded, unable to find her voice.
âIs that a yes?â
âYes! Yes, Iâll marry you! I love you so much, Rick.â
Rick suddenly pulled back as he remembered something.
âYour ring! Itâs in my suitcase.â
âWait, you were already planning on proposing?â
âYeah...and not while we were naked in a bathtub.â
Michonne chuckled. âIâm glad it happened like this...with just the two of us. Besides, some of my favorite moments involve us being naked,â she said saucily. âAnd this moment has definitely topped the list.â
âIâm glad it was just the two of us as well, but what do we tell everyone when we get back...or our kids when they ask how I proposed to you one day?â
Michonne thought a moment. âWeâll tell them that you proposed while we were by the water.â She smiled at a sudden thought. âYouâre already thinking about our future children?â
âYep. Iâm thinking two...no three boys and one girl.â
âFour kids? Using whose vagina?â
Rick slid his hand between Michonneâs thighs. âMine right here.â
âSorry, this oneâs mine,â Michonne said, breathless.
âYou sure about that? Cause I distinctly remember you saying it was mine last night...and this morning...and about thirty minutes ago.â
âSorry, I donât recall. I think youâll have to refresh my memory.â
âChallenge accepted, Mrs. Grimes.â
âIâm not Mrs. Grimes yet.â
âNot on paper, but in my heart youâre already Michonne Grimes.â
âMichonne Grimes. I like the sound of that.â
âMe, too.â Rick gave Michonne one more lingering kiss. âNow, letâs get out this tub and back into our bed. We have some celebratinâ to do and I got to refresh that memory of yours.â Â
***
Four hours later, the couple was seated in the restaurant Rick had chosen for the evening. The couple was enjoying the mountain views through the restaurantâs floor to ceiling windows.
âRick, this place is amazing...the view, the food, and most especially the company.â
âYou can thank Mama for the suggestion.â
âOh, your parents have been here before?â
âYes. They come here every year to celebrate their anniversary. Mama thought youâd enjoy it.â
âWell, Suzanne was right. I canât imagine a better place to celebrate our anniversary and our engagement.â Michonne shook her head with a sigh. âI still canât believe weâre engaged.â
âItâll be more real once you have your ring.â
âI told you not to worry about that. The proposal was perfect because of what you said, not what you gave me. Â I honestly just want to relive the moment over and over again.â
âHow about reliving it one more time?â
âWhat?â
Rick stood up from the table and walked to Michonneâs side. Seemingly out of nowhere, a violinist appeared and began to play Michonneâs favorite classical piece. Rick got down on one knew before Michonne and opened a small box containing a beautiful diamond solitaire housed in an intricate antique setting.
âIs that my ring? I thought...â Michonne shook her head confused. âRick, what are you doing?â
âIâm asking you again...because I can never hear you say yes too many times. And because you deserve the whole proposal experience.â
Rick blew out a breath, suddenly nervous. âMichonne, you are my best friend, my partner, and the love of my life. You are the very best part of my life. There is no me without you and no me without us. Michonne Richardson, will you grant me the honor and privilege of becoming my wife?â
Eyes full of tears and heart full of emotion as if it were the first time, Michonne nodded and said, âYes.â
The violinist began playing the âWedding Marchâ and the restaurant patrons broke into cheers and applause as Rick took Michonneâs left hand and slid the solitaire on her finger.

First Dance
âLadies and Gentlemen, please welcome Mr. and Mrs. Rick and Michonne Grimes to the floor for their first dance as husband and wife.â
With Rickâs right hand on Michonneâs back and her left hand on his shoulder, the newlyweds clasped their other hands together in a traditional dance hold. The couple swayed to their song as it began to play while their family and friends looked on.
âThis is the one part Iâve been dreading.â Michonne looked up at her husband. âWe really should have skipped this whole âfirst danceâ thing.â
âWhy?â
âItâs so awkward being the only ones dancing. People are staring at us like weâre on display.â
Rick laughed and pulled his tense wife closer. âWe kind of are, babe. Â I told you we should have gone with a line dance as our first dance. That way everyone could have joined in from the beginning.â
âYou just want to do a dance that shows off those cowboy boots of yours.â
Rick glanced down at the shiny black boots. âThey are nice, arenât they? A very smart, beautiful, and considerate woman left them for me this morning.â
âWhat a coincidence. A smart, handsome, and thoughtful man had a beautiful set of birthstone jewelry sent over to me this morning.â
Rick had found the boots gift wrapped and waiting for him in the groomâs suite. While Rickâs mother, Suzanne, had delivered Michonneâs heart shaped amethyst and diamond necklace and matching bracelet and earrings. Â
âThank you, babe. I love them.â
âYouâre welcome. You wouldnât be you without some cowboy boots.â
Rick twirled his wife away before pulling her back into his arms.
âAnd thank you for the jewelry. Itâs beautiful.â
âYouâre absolutely welcome. But you know how you can really thank me?â
âHow?â
Rick leaned down to whispered, âLeave the necklace on after you take everything else off tonight.â
âRichard Grimes. Are you getting fresh with me?â
âI certainly am, Mrs. Grimes.â
âGood, keep it up.â
Michonne paused as Rick dipped her. When he pulled her back up, the couple abandoned the traditional dance hold altogether as Rick wrapped his arms around Michonneâs waist and hers went around his neck.
âNow, are you going to wear just your cowboy boots tonight?â
âHey, if youâre into it, Iâm game. Though I wonât be able to leave them on too long. There are some positions where Iâll have better balance on my bare feet.â
âRick, how many positions are you planning on us trying tonight?â
âAs many as possible. Iâve been doing some research on the internet.â
âI hope you didnât use my computer.â
âNo, I used Shaneâs. He already had most of the sites I needed saved on his favorites tab.â
The couple shared a laugh before a content Michonne laid her head on Rickâs shoulder. The music washed over her as she lost herself in the warmth and security of her husbandâs embrace.
âLadies and gentlemen, letâs give it up for Rick and Michonne!! Now everyone make your way to the floor and join the happy couple.â
Michonne pulled back, confused. âWait? Our dance is over already?â
âYeah.â
âI feel like it just started. I spent all this time dreading it and it flew by.â
Rick smiled at his wife. âI think we just learned our first lesson as a married couple.â
âReally? Whatâs that?â
âWe can make it through anything when we donât lose focus on the most important thing...each other.â
Michonne nodded in agreement. âLook at you. Weâve been married less than four hours and you have already turned into a philosopher.â
âWhat can I say? I guess being married to you brings out the best in me.â Rick gave his wife a quick kiss before letting out a low whistle. âHave I told you how beautiful you look today? You always look amazing, but today you are just on another level.â
âWhat can I say? I guess being married to you agrees with me.â
Michonne settled back into Rickâs arms and the newlyweds danced the night away.

âItâs a disaster,â said Michonne, close to tears, as she and Rick stood in the almost empty space.
âIt ainât so bad,â said Rick, as he wrapped his arm around her back and glanced over their surrounds. Strategically placed candles offered them some lighting, but there was not much else in the house at that point. Â
âEverythingâs gone wrong,â she said, as he pressed a gentle kiss to her temple.
âAt least weâre here together.
âWith no electricity because I forgot to call the electric company.â
âHey, donât beat yourself up,â said Rick. âLook on the bright side: Thereâs always tomorrow.â
Michonne let out a loud sigh.
âWe shouldâve just paid a moving company,â she offered tiredly. âInstead of getting your dumbass friend to drive our furniture here.â
âHey, Shaneâs not that much of a dumbass,â said Rick, not really offended by his girlfriendâs assessment of his best buddy.
âHe borrowed his uncleâs old ass, rusty ass truck, and proceeded to break down on the way,â said Michonne. âWith all of our stuff in the back of the truck.â
âAt least weâve got a couch,â said Rick pointing toward it.
âItâs the one the last tenants left here,â said Michonne.
âAnd it ainât so bad,â said Rick as went to sit down on it. He smiled up at her and tilted his head to the side like he always did, before saying, âCâmere.â
Even though she was frustrated, she could not resist Rick when he was like this. All charming and sweet and playful; he really did know how to make her feel better and soften her up. She went to him as he gestured for her to sit on his lap. He wrapped his arm about her waist as she took up her seat; she draped her arm over his shoulder and played with his loose curls.
She kissed his head and then asked, âHow are you not annoyed right now?â
âIt doesnât help the situation,â he replied, running his hand up and down her back soothingly. âBesides, the lightsâll be on tomorrow; Shaneâs dumbass will get the rest of our things to us tomorrow. Thereâs always tomorrow. Iâm just tryinâ to live in this moment with you, right here, right now. You gotta look on the bright side, sweetheart.â
âIâm trying. I wanted it to be perfect,â said Michonne. âOur first night in our first home together.â
âHey, now,â he said, as he reached up to cup her face. âIt is perfect, darlinâ. Itâs perfect because Iâm here with you and thatâs all I need.â
Michonne smiled warmly and then pressed her lips to Rickâs lips. The soft glow of the candlelight caressed their skin as they deepened the kiss. Michonne shifted in her position so that she was straddling him as she threaded her fingers through Rickâs hair. After a moment, he broke the kiss; she rested her brow to his. They were both breathless.
âWe could christen the sofa right now,â said Michonne teasingly, as she leaned back and removed her top.
Rick brought his lips to her elegant neck, lapping at her soft, smooth skin. He then kissed her earlobe, before sucking it into his mouth. Then, he whispered, in that slow Southern drawl she loved, âSee, now youâre lookinâ on the bright side.â
A/N: Â A short AU story to relay Richonneâs first night apart. Â Hope you enjoy.
The sky emanated a soft, glowing light as twilight commenced, the day slowly turning into night. The house was buzzing with activity as Michonne watched the kids prepare dinner. Â Carl practically towered over the stove as he patiently stirred his special sauce. Â Pre-teen Judith stood at the island, carefully cutting up vegetables while her younger brother, RJ, picked them up and put them in a bowl. Â Music blared from a nearby device so there was plenty distraction to be had yet the house still felt empty.
Rick was away at a law enforcement conference and this was the first time they would not share a bed since they got married.  She knew this day was coming as it had been planned months in advance but she didnât know she would miss him this much.  She was able to keep busy at work and didnât have time to think about what she would face once she was home but now that sheâs here and she knows that he wonât be walking through the door at any momentâŠ..well, the realness of it has set in.
She feels like a lovesick teen, wondering what her love is doing right now. Â If he misses her as much as she misses him. Â If heâd have a decent meal and whether heâd eat some dessert afterwards. Â A tap at her thigh pulls her out of her musings and has her looking down at the little person in the house. Â âYes?â
RJ looks up at his mother and says, âWe put all the vegetables in the bowl. Â Can we do the bread now?â
She gives him a wide smile and taps his cute little nose. Â âYou most certainly can.â Â She moves over to the refrigerator to retrieve the canned crescent rolls and hands them to RJ. Â âYouâre gonna let your sister help you right?â
âOf course Mama.â
She throws herself into helping her kids with dinner and is most animated when Rick calls to say hello. They put him on speaker so everyone can tell him about their day as well as hear about his. Â The kids boast about their culinary skills which Michonne confirms and Rick challenges them to a cook off once he returns. Â
Later that night, the house is quiet as the kids are in their bedrooms. Â Carl is probably on his computer or some video game, Judith is more than likely on her cell phone with her best friend, and RJ is fast asleep. Michonne takes a long shower, puts on some comfy pjs, and climbs into their king sized bed which never looked as big as it does now.
She grabs the remote and powers on the TV just to fill the room with something. She reaches for the book on the bedside table just as her cell phone lights up indicating a new message. Â She picks it up and reads âYou ok?â from her husband. Â She quickly texts back, âFine.â Â The shrill ring of the house phone drowns out the TV for just a moment before she picks it up and says, âHello.â
âWhatâs wrong?â Â Rickâs voice is soft and concerned.
âHowâd you know?â Â She returns.
âI just do.â
âItâs nothing. Â Iâm just missing you. Â Iâve gotten so used to having you around that I donât know what to do with myself. Â I didnât think a night apart would be a big deal but it is,â she relays.
âYeah it is. Â I miss you too but this is the short conference remember? Â Iâll be home before you know it,â he reassures her.
âYou better.â
âI love you,â he tells her.
âI love you too.â
They end the call reluctantly, both knowing they have early mornings. Â She pulls the linens up to her chin, takes a deep breath, and closes her eyes, preparing for a lonesome slumber. Â The click of the bedroom door opening has her eyes popping open again as she looks expectantly at the door. Â Judith walks in first, followed by Carl, carrying a sleepy RJ.
âWhat are you guys doing?â Michonne asks.
âWeâre gonna sleep in here with you,â Judith announces as she takes the spot next to her mom while Carl places RJ next to her and climbs in beside him.
Michonne tilts her head to the side and looks from Carl to Judith and back again. Â âYour dad?â
Carl nods. Â âHe just wants you to be ok.â
Michonne smiles, thinking of the man she was so lucky to find. Â She pulls her kids in for a hug, squeezing Carlâs shoulders. Â âI am.â
The Very First...Vignettes (Part III)- Carolina-Bleus
Part I Part II
First House
Tick, tick, tick...
Who knew five minutes could feel like five hours?
Rick stared at his watch for what felt like the millionth time. He looked over at his wife who didnât seem to be faring any better. She was chewing on her bottom lip and staring off into space.
They intended to do this last night, but the move into their new home had taken longer than expected. By the time their family and friends left after a dinner of pizza and wings, the couple had just enough energy to shower and fall into bed. But as soon as the sun rose, they were up and ready. And now they were waiting.
Finally, the timers starting going off on both Rick and Michonneâs phones and her smart watch. The couple silenced the devices and looked at each other. Michonne took a deep breath and headed into the adjoining bathroom. After a few seconds, she came back out. Rick couldnât tell if her blank expression was a good or bad thing.
Is she in shock from happiness or sadness?
Michonne held the plastic stick out to her husband.
Rick looked at the stick and then his wife. He was too nervous to remember Michonneâs explanation from just ten minutes ago. âBabe, what does this mean?â
âIt means...â Michonne swallowed as tears gathered in her eyes. âIt means we have about nine months to turn the bedroom next to ours into a nursery.â
Tears sprang to Rickâs eyes. âWeâre having a baby?â he whispered.
âWeâre having a baby.â
The couple embraced as their tears of joy flowed.
***
First Child
âBabe, I need you to sue this company for false advertising. âEasy openâ my behind. It was easier putting the crib together than opening this thing.â
Michonne tried to contain her laughter as she watched Rick struggle with the top of the line stroller.
âYou only have yourself to blame. You insisted on buying this stroller remember?â
âI did a lot of research and this one had the best safety ratings and features, so of course our baby was going to get it.â
âIâm not arguing that. Thereâs no question our baby deserves the safest stroller. The question is, when is our baby going to be able to get in the stroller to enjoy all those safety features?â
âI almost have it, smarty pants.â Rickâs face lit up. âThere got it!â He exclaimed triumphantly.
Michonne reached into the backseat of their SUV and gathered up their sleeping infant. âOkay, little one. Youâre chariot awaits.â
***
The couple took in their surroundings as they strolled through downtown on the quiet Sunday afternoon.
âI canât believe itâs been three months since weâve been back.â
Rick smiled down at the stroller as he pushed it. âYeah, but I think we have a really good excuse for our absence.â
âYeah, the best one.â Michonne checked on their baby before continuing. âIt was sweet of them to do this for us.â
Barista Ryan was the first one to rush over and hug them both.
âItâs so great to see you guys! Feels like itâs been forever.â
Michonne smiled. âWe missed you guys, too. Thanks again for the basket you sent over. It was much appreciated and is being much used.â
âEspecially that espresso. Some days it is the only thing keeping me awake,â Rick joked.
âAnd I nearly cried when I saw an entire container of chocolate croissants.â
âNearly cried? You did cry, babe. And then you ate four of them in one sitting.â
âHoney, Iâd just had a baby. My hormones were all over the place. Besides, I thought we agreed to keep that between the two of us. Just like we agreed to never tell our friends how you passed out during the delivery.â
Rick blushed at the reminder. âYouâre absolutely right.â He turned to Ryan. âIf this gets out, weâll know you gossiped, Ryan.â
Michonne side-eyed her husband. âYeah right. Itâs already out because of you, âloose lips.â Maggie let me know you told Glenn about me crying over the croissants. Apparently thatâs why he sent over those dessert pizzas from their restaurant. That was actually very sweet of him though.â
âWell, I know you told your sister about me passing out cause Jacqui suddenly started calling me âRick Van Winkleâ right after the baby was born.âÂ
Michonne chuckled. âOkay, how about this? We promise not to tell anyone else. Because if Shane or Andrea get a hold of this information, weâll have to relocate.â
Rick nodded. âAgreed.â
Ryan laughed at the coupleâs lighthearted antics. âWeâve really missed you guys. It truly has not been the same without you here.â
âWeâll be making our regular trips again soon,â Michonne promised. âWith one special addition.â
Rick reached down and carefully lifted a now wide-awake baby into his arms.
âEveryone, Michonne and I would like to introduce you to our son, Richard Sutton Grimes, Jr. But you can call him R.J.â
The couple basked in the full circle moment of bringing the little life they created together to the very special place where their life together began.
