To mark the opening of ARTIST ROOMS: Anselm Kiefer, Dr Christian Weikop will discuss Kieferâs provocative performance art project called âOccupationsâ (1969), a project documented by photographs that contributed to the development of unique artist books and paintings entitled âHeroic Symbolsâ (1969-1970). In this talk, Dr Weikop will also consider the reception of âOccupationsâ and relate how this early body of work has continued to influence Kieferâs artistic practice right up until the present day. Dr Christian Weikop is a specialist in modern and contemporary German art and has published and taught extensively in this field.
