What would Oliver have done though if Naesala said no? Give up? I don't think so. He was fixated. He probably would have just bribed someone else to get ahold of Reyson, and no one else would have been able to do it without having to drag him kicking and screaming because that's how Reyson is.
I'd like to think Naesala's rescue plan involved faking Reyson's death to get the duke to give up on future attempts.
I'd also like to think Naesala has missed him a lot more than he lets on, but has let the distance fall between them because having a friend that can read you is not great when you have a secret to keep. So it was also a test of if he had become capable of deceiving Reyson. If he could pull off this, he could hide whatever else he might need to in the future. So it would be safe for them to be friends again, if Reyson would forgive him.
