when hannibal was a kid, an intruder broke into his home in lithuania and killed his parents in front of him and his sister. hannibal was able to take mischa and escape, but obviously that moment traumatized him. instead of becoming a killer, even tho he wanted to track down the intruder and kill him, hannibal decided to become someone who could catch the bad guys. he started as a detective in lithuania and transferred to america on the police force before quickly studying to become part of the fbi. bc of his amazing mind, they requested he be on the bau team under jack crawford, which he accepted greatly. he's a good agent, but he still has that closed off / person suit type personality, meaning he doesn't let anyone in, he rarely shows emotions. when he shoots someone on a case, jack insists that hannibal get therapy bc jack thinks hannibal is hiding his trauma, when he really just doesn't feel bad for killing someone.
