Looking for games to get lost in
Hi everyone! I'm an old-school player and I like how games such as Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver (1999) or the original Final Fantasy VII (1997) don't hold your hand all of the time, and sometimes even throw you in the game world without telling you ANYTHING about what you need to do, where you need to go. In Final Fantasy VII, you had sometimes a few clues, but there's parts of the game where you need to find the Temple of the Ancients, the Keystone, the Forgotten Capital, and later the Key of the Ancients all by yourself, by raking through the world map.
Recently I played Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth and started Elden Ring. All of these games are incredible experiences that I strongly recommend to try (particularly Rebirth), but they all point very clearly, constantly, to the next place you need to go. They guide you all the way, in a very linear fashion, no matter the amount of optional side content.
I miss the feeling of adventure of Soul Reaver and Final Fantasy VII and King's Field and everything! So I'm looking for games of all eras - preferably with a good, solid, fictional universe, emphasis on science fiction, fantasy and horror - where you're not constantly pushed towards a clear objective.
My favourite genres are platformer, Action-RPG and survival horror.
