Bob & his brother, Joe are winners of the legendary Camel Trophy - a gruelling competitive expedition sometimes known as the "Olympics of 4x4" - the most famous event of its kind in the world. Bob & Joe competed in & won the 1989 Amazon Camel Trophy using this very Land Rover 110, pushing the home team of Brazilians Ricardo Simonsen & Alfonso Celso-Baldrati to second place by just five points. The event has been described as the "harshest", "most gruelling of all" and the "toughest ever, due to the severity of conditions during the 17-day epic at the height of the Amazon's unforgiving rainy season". The Ives' colossal success was to be the first and only time the United Kingdom was to win Camel Trophy in its twenty year history. To recognise this achievement, the Ives brothers were awarded the prestigious Segrave Trophy by the Royal Automobile Club (held by Bob in pic 1), an annual recognition of British "outstanding demonstration of skill, courage and initiative in transportation on land, water or in the air" and as such, Bob was elevated to the same level of recognition as Amy Johnson, Jackie Stewart, Sterling Moss and Lewis Hamilton. Bob returned to Camel Trophy events as staff member a further six times and ran the Camel Trophy UK Off-Road Centre for five years. Post Camel years, Bob's career continues within expedition & support for automotive manufacturers like Land Rover, Jeep and Mercedes and working behind the scenes on television programmes such as BBC's Top Gear and Grand Tour and on the big screen with the Harry Potter and Discworld franchises.
