Retail doll
Combat doll who was built for a war that never happened. Now she has to clock in for her retail job and try not to flip her shit on all the customers who give her weird looks. It’s not her fault she was built to rip tanks in half and pull damaged vehicles to safety. She didn’t ask to be this big, this intimidating, this dangerous. She’s just a sweet girl who wants to protect the people she cares about. All she wants is to find community with the other dolls like her.
She wants to feel safe and normal for once but updating your own firmware is easier said than done when your parent company liquidated their maintenance division. Now her ball joints hurt, threat alarms and maintenance reminders chime constantly in her head, and combat endorphins flood her subsystems at random.
Things are getting better as time passes, she has friends now. But they struggle the same as her and a group of dolls draws even more attention than usual. She thinks they should all run away and start their own society. Dolls are safer in numbers after all…
Zine I made at work about being a retail worker and the fun conversations I have with my coworkers, Part 1! Part 2 here
Denver Safeway supermarket checker Ann Paris stands by an empty check-out line, 1966. Over 100,000 Colorado housewives were boycotting the major grocery store chains to protest the high price of groceries.

Back when I was working retail, had a woman buy a belt at my register, then ask for scissors so she could cut the tag off so she could use it immediately.
I tell her that, technically, we're not allowed to do this, but sometimes we have scissors at the register, and I'll check.
I check the register drawers.
Then the drawers of all six other registers.
While she watches me.
No scissors.
I apologize sincerely, because I'm genuinely sorry that I can't help her with this.
Bitch loses her fucking mind. Tells me she needs this belt right now because her pants are falling down, and she needs it to hold them up, demands I go find her scissors so she can cut the tag off.
Does not accept my apology that I'm not allowed to leave my register. Does not accept my apology that, no, I can't call my manager for this, because, again, it's against store policy to help her do this at all.
Manager gets involved anyway, because she's throwing such an incredible bitch-fit, during which time she's managed to twist the plastic tag off the belt herself. Complains to the manager that I was unhelpful and rude and that she had to deal with her belt's tag on her own (which she needed because her pants were falling down), and is basically horrible.
I go to stand a short way aways from this, mostly to get out her range and dissociate from this retail hell that I work in for a few minutes.
Dissociating is nice.
Bitch suddenly Approaches Me, all sunshine and smiles, and apologizes.
It is the creepiest, most uncanny valley apology I have ever experienced.
I find out why the about-face in attitude after she leaves. Turns out she'd come to the conclusion, all by herself (derogatory), that I'm mentally disabled ('low functioning' implied), and that that's why I was being so difficult.
And just.
Like.
Bitch, of the two of us, I'm the one who thought to put on a belt before I left the house this morning so that my pants would stay up.
Worst bit is that, yes, actually, I am mentally disabled, but it's, like. Depression/anxiety/ADHD. It is not whatever she dreamed up.
It's been nine years.
I hope she suffers spontaneous clothing failure in the most embarrassing way possible for every event she attends for the rest of her miserable life.
"We will live amongst you, wear your clothes, serve your milkshakes."
Hi!!!! I wanted to yap about some things today since I wanted to tell ya’ll about one thing and then remembered another.
1: I’ve been playing a TON of Jedi Survivor recently, this isn’t my first time playing it or Jedi Fallen Order, I’m actually on my third playthrough! This game is definitely on of my top favorites in the Star Wars franchise and it always gives me a bi panic now with Dagan, Bode (As much as I hate him even though he looks fine), Merrin and Cal. I played Story Mode, Jedi Knight and am currently on the Jedi Master difficulty! (Surprisingly it’s not as hard as I thought it’d be, I haven’t died once to any of the major story bosses!)
2: WHY HASN’T ANYONE POSTED MORE PICTURES OF DAGAN GERA IN BLACK ROBES THIS IS LIKE THE HOTTEST THING I’VE SEEN 😭 I lowkey just need more screenshots of him in general because there’s barely enough on Pinterest to satiate me. So, PLEASE if you have any, modded or unmodded I would love to see them!! Here are a few I have captured myself!
2: I applied for a part time IRL job at Hot Topic a few days ago (The 28th), if they hire me this’ll be my first job EVER! I would appreciate anyone who has worked there or at a retail store to tell me what it’s like, and friendly reminder that idrc how much I’m getting paid since I live with my parents, even something simple as $10 would satisfy me and Hot Topic has been my favorite place since forever even though I haven’t bought a ton of things from there I see a lot of cool things being advertised to me!!
Anyway I hope all you lovely people out there have a good day/night wherever you are, know that someone cares about you even when everything seems hopeless and not worth it. <3
