BASIC CHARACTER STATS:

CHARACTER NAME: Astoria Marie Greengrass

AGE & YEAR: 13, Third Year,  April 4, 1982

BLOOD-STATUS: Pureblood.

SEXUALITY & GENDER: Female. Bisexual. Astoria has never really cared about whether or not she should be one way or the other. She’s interested in learning everything she can about everyone and this includes wanting to experiment with both boys and girls. However, she’s only kissed one or two boys, being quite young, she doesn’t really think she’s ready for it. As for her future endeavors, she doesn’t really care how a lot of it plays and only hopes that she’s happy in the end, no matter whom it’s with. As for Draco Malfoy, she knows her family would love for her to marry someone of equal pure blood ideas, however, she doesn’t really want to think about all of that yet. It may be because she’s too young, but she’s never really enjoyed the idea of marrying someone because her parents wanted her to. If she’s going to marry, she wants it to be for love and the pure blood ideals would merely be a plus.

BOGGART: Her boggart is the act of being buried alive. It is the act of seeing hands begging to come out of the dirt while more and more is piled on top. Astoria is afraid of being killed before her time is over. It physically makes her panic and hyperventilate as she’s afraid that someone will hate her or be annoyed with her that much to do that and not care if she’s dead or not. One of her attempts while using the Ridikkulus charm is that she imagines being buried with stuffed animals of every kind.

PATRONUS: Her patronus is a rabbit, however, she hasn’t even started learning about the charm yet. She’s heard rumors about it and how it’s performed. Astoria is interested in how it works and is really looking forward to learning it when she gets old enough.

PET: A black cat with white feet by the name of Trick.

WHO ARE THEY? Astoria hates being compared to her sister in any way. She knows she’s completely different and knows she’s not only little and the baby, but that doesn’t matter to her, because all she wants to do is become better at everything in the world. This doesn’t always work out in her favor because she tends to speak when he shouldn’t, comment on things she shouldn’t and say things that others would deep highly inappropriate. But she doesn’t care. All she wants is for people not only to respect her, but to not treat her like a baby. The world is her oyster and she wants to learn everything she possibly can. Because of this, Astoria is an excellent student and is at the top of her class and is very proud of this fact. She always tries to show everyone just how much she knows and isn’t afraid to discuss events that happen in the world or anything that’s on her mind. These conversations always tend to get intense as she knows this won’t always end well, but how will she ever learn everything about the world if she doesn’t try and have fun with asking six million questions? Because of her strong desire to be the best at everything, she refuses to let people in for fear they’ll turn their backs on her or hurt her in some way, so she tends not to trust people very much. According to her, they’re not worth it if they don’t have a high intelligence or something spectacular going for them and she’ll spend most of her time making fun of them, saying things she thinks they won’t understand or asking far too many awkward questions to make them uncomfortable.

THE BACKGROUND:

FAMILY: Her family is one of the Sacred Twenty-Eight pureblood families and she was raised to follow and completely understand the ideals of pure-blood supremacy. She whole heartedly believed she was worthy of something fantastic and great, per her parents upbringing. Her parents, Helen and Gordon Greengrass were always very kind to her, however, they wanted her to be more like her sister, Daphne. Daphne was everything Astoria wasn’t and she wished that for once, they’d see her for who he was, rather than who her sister was. Because of how protective her sister seems to be, mostly out of an intention to make her be something she doesn’t want to be, Astoria tries to stay as far away from her as possible. She appreciates all her sister is doing, but she wants to live her life according to her rules and not to anyone else’s, no matter how much they think it’s better for her that way. She wants to see the stars and know her parents wouldn’t approve of that, no matter what it might do for her reputation. It’s not good enough and a lot of the time, she gets really angry with them because of it. As she was growing up, Astoria never really wanted to follow the rules. She much preferred not listening to her parents and telling them she did. After all, life was more fun that way, so why should she follow the rules? She hopes that soon, her parents will see how well she’s doing in school and stop comparing her to her sister. After all, she’s her own person and perhaps even believes she’s better than her sister.

APPEARANCE: Astoria is a very small person and she knows it. Her long brown hair cascades past her shoulders and she tends to leave it down a lot of the time. This way, she can whip it in people’s faces if she wants to. Because of her small stature, she tends to hate wearing dresses as she feels like they drown her, so when she’s not wearing her uniform, she’s wearing muggle-style jeans and t-shirts, trying to blend in with the non-pure-blood crowd. When she’d heard of muggle clothes, she’d asked her mother and sister about them, which resulted in them taking a trip to one of the muggle shopping malls. Her mother didn’t really understand why Astoria wanted them, but she figured if it would make her daughter happy and perhaps someday follow in her sister’s footsteps if she was given the chance to be what she wanted. These clothes are a whole lot more comfortable than what her parents want her to be wearing. Astoria prefers to be comfortable rather than pretty. When in uniform, it’s really simple, however, she does enjoy the use of a tie, because it makes her feel important. Generally, it’s loose and rests gently on her chest.

TALENTS: Astoria has found herself very good at Transfiguration and Astronomy, however, there isn’t very much she isn’t good at and she’s very proud of that fact. Astronomy makes perfect sense to her and she loves the way the stars make her feel. There’s so much to learn and so many constellations and information about the gas in the sky. It’s become one of her passions and she dreams of going up to see them, somehow. When she’s not doing homework, she can be found sitting out in the courtyard, drawing and trying to capture the beauty of the school. She also enjoys having lively debates with anyone who will join her, mostly filled with a ton of questions about absolutely everything. There are so many things to learn, so many things to know and draw.

HOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED:

RESORTING: Surprisingly, being sorted into Ravenclaw was perfect for her. It kept her away from her own sister who couldn’t force her into doing anything she didn’t want to do. Her intelligence could help her fly and be exactly the student she wanted to be. Astoria loves it. There are so many people that understand her need for knowledge, understand her need to know everything and it only makes her want to be even better. Her world is more than she could have asked for and she wouldn’t trade it for anything. While she is a little more pompous than others she’s met, she knows her love of knowledge will help her triumph over everyone else. The Ravenclaw in her is more pulled and driven toward the knowledge, rather than the cunning desire she may have possessed if she was sorted into Slytherin. While she still has that, her actions now seem to make her more aware of the logic and knowledge behind each decision and she always makes sure she has a comeback, or a plan of some kind. Her words may spout out without hesitation, but a lot of the time, she doesn’t regret it, as it’s whom she is and she knows that.

RELATIONSHIPS: Astoria is generally not overlooked because of how fiery she can be. She is known as being the feisty little third year and she quite likes it that way. Making friends is a little difficult for her because she’s so picky, but she’s really very friendly when she wants to be, until she learns something about someone that she doesn’t like, then she can get very irritating. However, when she does like someone, she’s a very good friend. Hermione Granger: She loves talking to Hermione about absolutely everything she can, however, she isn’t quite sure if she considers the girl a friend just yet. Astoria isn’t afraid to get into a debate with the girl and isn’t afraid to tell her she’s wrong, as she finds it quite fun. She’s very glad that Hermione’s not in her year because she’d probably fight for the top academic spot. Draco Malfoy: She’s never really thought too much of him and isn’t really sure what she really feels about him. Astoria enjoys watching him play Quidditch, as she knows he’s a good player. She knows that it would probably be in her best interest to be friends with him, but she doesn’t really care to. Ernie Macmillan: He’s one of the only people she will actually openly admit that she likes. They’ve always been very good friends and she knows she’s very lucky to have him around. He’s very much like an older brother to her and she knows she can go to him for anything she may need.

DIFFERENT HISTORY: Before Hogwarts, Astoria had dreamed of going, wanting to learn everything she possibly could about everything, in order to prepare herself. She knew that once she got accepted, her parents wanted her to be in the same house as her sister and when that didn’t happen, both her sister and her parents were disappointed. They knew that now, their little baby wouldn’t be watched over and shown how to properly get the best Hogwarts experience. Going to the Quidditch World Cup when she was still young was one of her favorite memories. Because of how much fun she had, she now goes to every Ravenclaw game she can. Astoria didn’t want to admit to anyone that she was afraid of the dementors or the sadness they brought. She understood why they needed to protect the school, but the whole time they were there, she refused to go anywhere near them, or anywhere outside and pretended like she was strong, she pretended like she was stronger than she was. It was a little difficult to deal with all of that as a first year, but she knew if she didn’t, she wouldn’t be allowed to stay. When she was in her second year, she made sure she was sitting in the front row or as close as she possibly could be to any of the Triwizard Tournament trials. They were the most spectacular thing she’d ever seen and she wished that she’d been old enough to try and join. Sitting and watching them taught her so much about magic and charms she hadn’t learned yet. Astoria knew that the experience she’d had at such a young age wasn’t one typical of Hogwarts students, but that was particularly why she loved it and didn’t care that she was young. In fact, a lot of the time, she used that to her advantage to get what she wanted and to take advantage of people.

STYLE OF PLAY:

DEVELOPMENT: Astoria wants to learn everything she possibly can, to the point where there probably isn’t enough knowledge left in the world for her to know. She’ll want to know enough about astronomy to be able to go up into space and explore everything the galaxy and beyond have to offer. Because she adores everything about magical astronomy, she’s taken to trying her best to learn about muggle astronomy as well and when given the chance to head to muggle shopping areas, she’s picked up other books. She wants to know absolutely everything about it in every part of the world, both wizard and muggle. Then, from reading about muggle astronomy, she learned of space flight and now wants to do that, even if it isn’t completely in the Wizarding World. The thought of physically seeing everything in front of her and stepping on other planets sounds like the most fascinating thing ever, but she’s afraid she’ll never get the chance to do that. I would love for her to grow with the other characters to try and decide which side she will be on. For a fair amount of time, she’ll be confused, as she knows that she should be on the dark side, as it is probably what her parents will want, but she’s afraid of hurting anyone she may become close to. Her struggle between choosing what side she will be on will help her both make and lose friends. She’ll learn who she really is and what she really believes in. I’m really looking forward to seeing where she finds friends and where she believes her loyalties lie and how exactly she gets there, hoping she befriends some people she never thought she would. 

INTERACTIONS: I love both gif chats and paras and am one of those people that tend to let my paras get really long. I love any type of interaction, honestly. As for Astoria, I don’t have any ships and am completely open to almost anything and everything.

PROPOSED ALTERATIONS: (leave blank if you have none to suggest)

CANON CHANGES: Astoria may or may not actually wind up marrying Draco Malfoy. This all depends on how she grows and how everyone else around her grows. She doesn’t want to at this point and doesn’t know enough about him to make a decision just yet. [accepted of course, since it’s hardly a “change” as we are 100% end-game free and nobody’s future or future relationships are pre-determined by canon!]

EXPERIENCE: I have been roleplaying for about four years now. I started on tumblr, and I have only ventured off of it to twitter on a few occasions. Therefore, it is by far my most comfortable platform. I have done a bit of it all from independent rp blogs to many groups. I’ve been an admin on several occasions, and I also have a tendency to have as many as ten blogs at any given time.

CHARACTER NAME: Ernest “Ernie” Hemming Macmillan

AGE & YEAR: Ernie is 15 years old, making him a fifth-year at Hogwarts. His birthday is April 22. BLOOD-STATUS: Pure-blood

SEXUALITY & GENDER: Ernie identifies as a straight male.

WAND: 10” hornbeam wood with dragon heartstring core

BOGGART: As a pure-blood, Ernie was raised with a sense of superiority. While he does his best to not let that influence his opinion of those he meets, his bloodline is still a foundation of his very essence. Ironically, when Ernie first saw that his boggart was his own mother, he shrugged it off. It wasn’t until she began to speak, telling him that his true father was a muggle, that Ernie felt the chill run down his spine. He can successfully dress his mother in funny clothes or give her a balloon hat or some other addition that will help him laugh at the matter, but truthfully, the experience, especially his first, always leaves him with an uneasy mental state. For this reason, he hates boggarts more than most other things in the wizard world.

PATRONUS: Although Ernie is not yet skilled enough to produce a patronus charm, he would most likely have one that resembled a boar. While this is his canonical patronus, it still seems to suit him well considering, much like Ernie, male boars can be very solitary creatures.

PET: None

WHO ARE THEY? There are a few major elements that define Ernie: academia, blood status, and loyalty. Even before he could read, Ernie wanted to know everything. He was above and beyond most children who continuously ask “why” to their parents. He also needed to know the how, and he mostly would just watch. Once he could read, he did exactly that. Ernie would read and observe no matter the occasion. He just wanted to learn. Naturally, his parents were not in the slightest surprised when Ernie was placed into Ravenclaw, and this placement has only strengthened his desire to know everything. It doesn’t particularly help that Ernie has a consistent need to always be right either. He will argue with those that tell him otherwise, and he will use past observations or knowledge from literature to do so. As a pure-blood, Ernie has never been outside of the wizarding world. He has only read about it in his books, but with that in mind, all of his interactions have been with other wizards or witches. His closest friends before Hogwarts were other pure-bloods, naturally. While he has made a few friends in school that do not belong in the same category, Ernie still has a natural tendency to cling to older traditions and those who were also raised with the same mindset. If he were to ever discover that he was potentially not a pure-blood, Ernie would feel as if he was being stripped of a membership to an extremely elite club, not to mention exiled from his own family. While it is difficult for Ernie to make new friends, as he is very specific to the criteria one must meet to be considered of having such an honor, a friend of Ernie’s is a friend for life. He becomes so loyal that some people consider it overbearing and potentially possessive. Of course, he would never believe that he was capable of those emotions and argues with whomever may try to confront him about it. It is certainly a blessing and a curse for both Ernie and those he befriends.

THE BACKGROUND:

FAMILY: Ernie is the youngest of two to Ernest and Rebecca Macmillan. His older sister Leda proceeds him by five years, and thus, she is no longer at Hogwarts. The family was always fairly close. They made a point every summer to take a holiday to somewhere nice and warm and surrounded by nature. It was always filled with memories of great times. Ernie couldn’t have asked for a better family. There is, however, one tiny detail that comes up from time to time that bothers him more than he feels it should. Leda has always looked very much like both of their parents, and being more of his mother’s son, Ernie never wouldn’t have paid much attention if people hadn’t said anything. Ernie, though, looked only like his mother. From time to time, he would try to find things that he and his father had in common, but he always felt like he was grasping at straws. Slowly over time, the fear of being some other man’s son began to eat away at him, and it is now a part of him that he keeps locked away from everyone he knows.

APPEARANCE: Ernie looks almost identical to Sterling Knight; although, he has no knowledge of such muggle celebrities. From looks alone, though, there is no difference. Ernie is approximately 5’6”, and he has a slight muscular build. As his bloodline is important to him, Ernie will always be found wearing his robe. Only the attire beneath it changes. When he is in class or simply around his friends, he can be found in comfortable slacks with a simple dress shirt. However, if he is ever at a formal or more business-like event, he will wear something dressier under his robe, or if the situation calls, he will go all out in his best dress robes.

TALENTS: Ernie’s favorite classes are Charms and Potions. He finds that they come easily to him, and that can be extremely relaxing from time to time. If it were only for the text, he would greatly enjoy History of Magic, but the professor bores him greatly. His hardest class is Defense Against the Dark Arts, but that is mostly because, up until last year, he didn’t find it to be a very practical use of his time. As a member of the quidditch team, Ernie loves to fly, but he’s the only one to believe himself to be great at it. If he’s not in class or on the pitch, one can usually find Ernie reading whatever book he has borrowed from the library for the day.

HOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED:

RESORTING: Outside of blood, Ernie has always had two main qualities: intelligence and loyalty. As many know, intelligence is most often linked to Ravenclaw while loyalty is most often linked to Hufflepuff. I believe that resorting Ernie into Ravenclaw has simply strengthened his desire to grow and learn while his priorities of others and making friends of all kinds have lowered significantly to that of his studies. The biggest difference of all is that Hufflepuff most likely helped Ernie become less selfish in canon, yet Ravenclaw is pushing his intellectual boundaries and the people around him are only encouraging his pure-blood status.

RELATIONSHIPS: The people who get along with Ernie the least are those who feel that he has belittled them in any way at any time. He has a bad habit of arguing past the point of no return, so many times, those who do not understand his way of learning, tend to put up boundaries and consider him arrogant. He has a selective group of friends anyway, but he is familiar with all pure-bloods at the school, if only by name, as well as the other Ravenclaws either in his class or one removed. He considers Draco to be a close friend, while he considers Astoria to be his unofficial little sister. He’s known the two of them since childhood, and he can get a bit overprotective of Astoria from time to time. Hermione is someone that he has not yet classified as anyone other than competition. He greatly enjoys bouncing ideas and thoughts off of her, but she annoys him more than anyone with her strong difference of opinion.

DIFFERENT HISTORY: In his first year at Hogwarts, Ernie dove into his books. He took the time to read everything and ask his professors about any question he had. He was so caught up in learning that he barely noticed the year go by. In his second year, he never quite made a decision about Harry Potter. He was very quick to jump on the bandwagon that he was responsible for the petrifications, but that was mostly because his friends were saying it and Harry was in Slytherin. He had his doubts, though, knowing that Harry grew up with muggles. However, he mostly remembers the year as the one when finals were cancelled, and he was unable to prove to anyone how much he had learned. In his third year, he chose to finally try his hand at quidditch, and he loved it. It wasn’t so hard for him to ignore the dementors, as once again, he was studying whenever he had free time. Last year was most likely the hardest for him, until this one, because he was certain that Harry had cheated his way into the Tournament. He went out of his way to cheer against him, yet when Dumbledore announced the death of Cedric, and the reason behind it, Ernie began to feel a sense of urgency that he had never felt in his life. He is at a point now where he knows if the Dark Lord is back, then he cannot hide in his books forever, but he tries to hide his fear of reality in every way that he knows how.

STYLE OF PLAY:

DEVELOPMENT: Ernie is going to be interesting to see grow. When the going gets tough, he is very likely to hide in the library. He is going to be torn more than he ever thought possible if any of the people he considers friends begin to take opposite sides, as he will not wish to upset anyone. Over time, I hope that he becomes more self-aware of how he treats others and thinks of himself, but that may not happen if he doesn’t allow it.

EXPERIENCE: I’ve been roleplaying for about five years with the majority being on tumblr and a large portion of that in the Harry Potter universe.

BASIC CHARACTER STATS:

CHARACTER NAME: Draco Lucius Malfoy.

AGE & YEAR: fifteen / 5th year /5 June, 1980.

BLOOD-STATUS: Pureblood.

SEXUALITY & GENDER: Cis male, homosexual. Though canon depicts repeated instances of flirting between Draco and Pansy I have, personally, always viewed this as the result of a comfortable friendship and a simple way to slot into the roles of ‘King and Queen of Slytherin.’ It’s what his family, primarily his father, would want: a relationship based on power and superiority, a callous and cunning Slytherin girl who will further the contacts and respect of the Malfoy name. Regarding his marriage to Astoria, with the Greengrass family being one of the ‘Sacred Twenty-eight,’ their union would work to restore the Malfoy name in the eyes of the wizarding aristocracy who lost faith in them after Lucius’ imprisonment, Draco and Narcissa’s dependency on Harry’s forgiveness at the trial, and ultimately Draco’s hesitance in the Death Eater lifestyle in his later years at school. (If this is too inconsiderate of canon, though, I’d be happy to say bisexual!) [given what we’ve decided about pure-blooded society and its views on marriage and sexuality, especially combined with the fact that Draco never really seemed interested in Pansy so much as he was interested in the fact that she flattered him, I don’t think there’s anything canonical violated by making Draco homosexual especially with your explanations of his motivation for his actions in canon, so let’s go with your first choice!]

BOGGART: Complete Abandonment - Draco sees his father step forward and burn Draco’s signet ring, engraved with the Malfoy crest. Without his father’s guidance and wealth, Draco would be nothing: he would have no one to follow and would be forced to understand the world by his own means. With so many surrounding ideologies in Ravenclaw that conflict those of his family, Draco would be left confused, alone and with no leverage over his peers. To battle the boggart, Draco thinks of his father turning that malice to one of his peers instead: setting fire to Weasley or Potter’s ridiculous hair for example, as he laughs along with Draco.  

PATRONUS: Draco cannot form even a weak, silvery wisp of a patronus. If he could, it would be a horse. This horse reflects Draco’s nobility, his companionship with man (and the control man has over him), and the grace with which Draco carries himself.

PET: an Eagle Owl called Henry.

WHO ARE THEY?

Intelligence is, obviously, the reason Draco was sorted into Ravenclaw, and perhaps his quick wit – this is what he tells himself, though he’s honestly not too sure who he is now that he’s spent so long surrounded by students that pride themselves on individuality and acceptance. Behind Draco’s stoic and unyieldingly spiteful exterior, he’s doubtful. His father’s intellect was always put towards scheming and manipulation, something that Draco sought to imitate but, however calculating and resourceful Draco is, his peers are too smart and too involved in their own academic accomplishments to follow blindly in his footsteps. He can’t command a room like he always assumed he would and therefore his selfish, ambitious goals are hindered by a lack of power. Despite this, Draco is determined to remain loyal to the family name and continue to rise in status, collect impressionable followers from other houses (if needs be), and demonstrate his value as a cunning, self-preserving individual, whatever the colour of his tie. If only the blatant independent thought and frequent debates in the Ravenclaw common room (of muggle-born rights and the archaic, problematic consequences of a society distinguished by house and blood-status) weren’t making him think so much.

THE BACKGROUND:

FAMILY: Father: Lucius Malfoy has a demanding, authoritative presence and wrongly assumes himself as more player than pawn in the intricate rise of the Dark Lord. With Draco as his only child, sole heir to the Malfoy Mansion and the influence it carries, he knew he had to mould him to be a carbon copy of himself: ruthless, cunning, and able to tell which way the wind is blowing. It was all going well until Draco was sorted into Ravenclaw, the house of snotty know-it-alls with increasingly perverse ideas of dismantling tradition. Nowadays Lucius recognises that he will have to be more severe in his parenting: strict teachings on the right ways of wizarding etiquette and an appreciation of the aristocracy, hands-on practice of dark magic, introducing Draco to the more dangerous of his colleagues. If his son can’t be a Slytherin, he will certainly learn to appreciate what it means to be a part of the House. Away from his role as a parent he is an influential member of the Ministry of Magic, most notably within the Department of Mysteries, and a Governor of Hogwart’s School. Numerous incidents - such as being embarrassed by Albus Dumbledore and getting caught (though not officially) planting Tom Riddle’s diary on Ginny Weasley - and with speculation surrounding his involvement in the humiliation of a muggle family during the Quidditch World Cup, have led to Lucius being very careful about his position. He is on thin ice and Draco’s success may shape everything. Mother: Narcissa Malfoy, though just as cunning and elegant in her charm and appearance, is more forgiving of Draco’s current position. She loves her son regardless of house and her only qualm comes with the danger the situation presents; she is aware that her husband is a difficult man and fears the constant pressure will have a hazardous effect on Draco. Throughout it all she hopes her son will have as  little participation in the Dark Lord’s rise as possible, but she knows this is unlikely – whatever the case, she will protect him.   (Aunt Bella: though she’s yet to appear, Bellatrix is sure to be malicious in her mockery of itty-bitty Draco – “this is exactly what happened to Sirius,” she would say, “before his family disowned him and he went mad.” Narcissa is reluctant for them to ever meet, warning Draco that whatever her sister may say, if such a time arises, he is always welcome home.)

APPEARANCE: Draco is sharp from head to toe; a thin frame, pointed nose and glaring grey eyes. His posture is relentlessly rigid and assured, designer shoes shined to an almost reflective gloss, uniform perfectly fitted and tailored to accentuate the angular structure of his body. Though all of this is crafted to suggest severity and superiority, his childlike nature and insecurity are seen in his white-blonde hair, no longer slicked back with a horrific amount of gel, and the treacherous openness of his expression.    

TALENTS: Draco is extremely talented in the art of potion-making; though Professor Snape doesn’t hold Draco in as high regard as he would if he were sorted into his own house – often making snide comments about how Draco clearly doesn’t boast the ambition necessary for Slytherin and mocking his father more openly than he would otherwise – he is forced to admire his skill with a cauldron. Snape is still friends, more or less, with Lucius and Narcissa, and Draco is aware that he doesn’t have the upper hand here – Snape could make or break him with a single letter to his parents. Because of this, he has forced himself to work twice as hard to impress the man he had once hoped would be his mentor. Draco also has a knack for flying: despite rumours (that may be true) of Draco buying himself into the team in second year, he has blossomed into a graceful and capable seeker, able to slice through the air with elegant ease and accuracy. Draco struggles, however, with any subject he deems menial and unnecessary for his future career, whatever that may be: Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures and History of Magic bore him and their usefulness eludes him, so he disregards their importance in favour of his interest in potions, ancient runes and, eventually, alchemy.  

HOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED:

RESORTING: Ravenclaw is a house of creativity and independent thought, two things that Draco has never personally prided himself on; with the strict regime of Malfoy Manor and habitual idolisation of his parents, individuality appeared a weakness more than anything, something that could leave you ostracised and powerless. His intelligence is undeniable, though; with early tutorage and a love of reading, Draco has knowledge of things that far extend his years and which have earned the begrudging respect of his peers (something that he secretly cherishes, though pretends to disregard). This is also an opportunity to explore Draco’s hesitancy towards the Dark Lord; though he utilizes his wisdom, creativity and resourcefulness in his attempts to prove himself worthy of the Malfoy name, regular debates and careful observation of other students in his house (who talk of things he has never dared consider, who boast such pure passion for magic and progress, who aren’t afraid to question) has led to a certain acceptance of other’s views. Though he would never admit it, Draco has developed the ability to cross-examine and internally dispute some of the trite his father forces down his throat – he’s becoming more typically Ravenclaw by the day, but the desperation for acknowledgement continues to drive him more than anything else.  

RELATIONSHIPS: Harry Potter: Draco still resents Harry in this universe, perhaps even more so: Harry is everything that Draco desires to be, infamous, powerful, admired and feared among his peers in Slytherin – the house that Draco should not only have been a part of, but should have led. This jealousy manifests itself in a petty rivalry and biting insults in the corridors, anything from dismissing his status as a pureblood when he ‘doesn’t even have parents’ to mocking his dishevelled (and certainly not wizarding elite standard) appearance. The only issue is that Lucius sees in the Potter boy everything that he should see in Draco: a true Slytherin and a child with the potential to grow into a powerful and influential man. Hermione Granger: Though they share a house, Draco refuses to believe that they share anything else. Granger is a mudblood and an irritating one at that: always at the top of the class, answering questions in that pompous, know-it-all voice before the Professors have even finished asking them. And, no, this certainly doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that she’s better than him in just about everything (as his father consistently mentions in his letters) – he’d just about incendio his hair before admitting such a heinous truth. Though he does find himself studying just that little bit harder when he sees her horrific nest of hair scouring twenty books at once in the common room. Pansy Parkinson: family friends since childhood, there’s no one Draco would rather spout his long list of woes to, especially when Pansy suffered the same embarrassment of not being sorted into Slytherin herself. Hours outside of the common room are spent complaining and laughing at the sea of stupidity that surrounds them in their own houses; it’s a welcome feeling, to have someone in a similar position who almost understands him.

DIFFERENT HISTORY: Born into the affluent and infamous Malfoy family shaped Draco into the sort of brattish, pompous and selfish eleven-year-old boy that only his parents could love. His childhood was spent being pampered by his Mother and his nanny, Polly, and moulded by his father through evening tutorage in the history of pureblood wizarding families, the importance of an authoritative, unmoving presence when socializing with those of a lower status than you, and the loyalty one must have for their family and for those that wish to make the world better, purer, once more. He met people that scared him, celebrated him and, by the time he was headed to Hogwarts there was no doubt in his mind – or the minds of his parents and their ‘friends’ – that he wouldn’t be sorted into Slytherin like the rest of them. When the sorting hat said ‘Ravenclaw,’ Draco remained seated, snorting dismissively. Of course it wasn’t being serious, it was joking, playing on the absurdity of Draco not going to sit with his rightful peers. But then Professor McGonagall removed the hat and sent him on his way to the table shrouded in blue and bronze, surrounded by the claps of the oblivious and the stunned silence of those who recognised his name and where he should be placed. First year was difficult; he was constantly reminded of the life he was cruelly denied by the presence of one Harry Potter, parading through the school with his green and silver tie, a flurry of admirers following his every step. Famous Harry Potter, powerful Harry Potter, Slytherin Harry Potter. It was sickening and he was consumed with envy, acting out more than usual: shouting insults down the corridor and blatantly disrespecting the large majority of his own house that were half-blood or worse. Though his mother assured him that they were still ‘proud of their darling,’ Lucius was not afraid to make clear his disgust: ‘you have disrespected a long withstanding Malfoy family tradition, dirtied our reputation with your allegiance to a group of people adamant in discounting the importance of history in their pursuit of an ignorant future. You will prove yourself loyal to us, Draco, or face the consequences.’ From thereon, he became ruthless in his desire to prove himself as a worthy candidate for the clique of elitist friends his father had been introducing him to (though Lucius still kept many things private, however much Draco liked to pretend he knew everything about the Dark Lord). In second year he badgered his father into bribing the Ravenclaw Quidditch team with new ‘Nimbus 2001’ brooms under the promise that he would dominate over the other teams and demonstrate himself as someone to fear, even after being sorted into the ‘den of geeks.’ With rumours circulating about the heir of Slytherin, Draco became reclusive and bitter – it should have been him – wishing death upon muggleborns unashamedly, desperately. All this was to no avail; Draco spun himself into a withering mess of stress and expectation – he would spend hours upon hours in the library trying to reach top of the class, to beat that insufferable Granger, only to return to his dormitory and violently ignore his peers. Any time he wasn’t studying he was flying and, despite the braver of his teammates attempting to create some camaraderie between them, Draco made it clear that he was only there to win, to excel, not to make friends. The Triwizard Tournament was the perfect opportunity to raise Draco from isolated Ravenclaw to celebrated wizard – he tried everything, aging potions, transfiguration, bribing older students, but this only lead to more time than he thought necessary stuck in the Hospital Wing. Of course, Harry bloody Potter somehow wheedled his way in, and Draco wouldn’t be surprised if it was his Father (so fond of Slytherin Potter) that made it so. Now, going into his fifth year, Draco is finally being introduced to the reality of his family’s involvement in the Dark Arts and the rise of the Dark Lord; his mansion, though not yet headquarters, is a strong base for discussion and scheming. Draco, not old enough or ‘Slytherin’ enough, is not privy to extensive details, but there are whispers that the Dark Lord is not completely dismissive of his worth – Peter Pettigrew, his loyal servant, was not Slytherin after all. He knows that if he does something big, focusses all his energy on putting his Ravenclaw mind towards expanding He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named’s power, he may finally find the acceptance he craves, the love he once had.

STYLE OF PLAY:

DEVELOPMENT: I’m really interested in seeing how Draco is influenced by other Ravenclaws and how this changes his reaction to the Dark Lord’s rise and his family’s significant involvement. Reclusive throughout his former years at the school, I believe 5th year will give Draco the opportunity to finally step out of the shadows and confront his fears of identity and independence – explore what he wants, be that respect from his Father, a place in Voldermort’s ranks, or academic and intellectual freedom to chase a life he didn’t think possible until he began to observe his housemates and learn of their individual aspirations. Plot wise, he is aware of the Dark Lord’s development and the concern and confidence this has ignited in his parents – I’d like to see how he uses this information; does he hide away, does he try to slyly seek discussion with the Slytherins, or does he use his intelligence and creativity for the greater good? In his current state of confusion, I think all this will be decided and developed by his interactions with others. With Umbridge around, a stern, imposing figure just like his Father, I imagine he’ll be tempted to follow. 

INTERACTIONS: I love a decent sized interaction, enough for some dialogue and a brief description of action/emotion. Gif-chats are absolutely fab, though I sometimes struggle with a slow-paced, one-line reply sort of thing! I love to plot and I love the fun of two characters interacting who aren’t particularly friendly with each other (which shouldn’t be hard for Draco) and I really enjoy seeing a begrudging relationship form. I will admit, I am a pretty big fan of Draco/Harry, though I’m open to all ships that have a significant build up and lots of lovely chemistry/tension.

A muffled shriek of laughter from behind the bookcase Draco was currently scrutinising reminded him of a tale his mother once shared, pissed from two bottles of wine and giggling incessantly like he’d never seen her do before. It was something horrific and obscene that he’d considered, at the time, obliviating from his mind if not for the warmth he’d felt upon seeing her smile so unashamedly, inelegantly, while describing the devious acts she and his Father would get up to in the library.

They were all doing it in those days, apparently. The Slytherins, that is. Ambitious and clever so they were, but also downright heathens in the common room, pranking and mocking and parading the halls like Hogwarts royalty.

Draco cursed while pulling a crusted, incredibly large tome from the shelf and dusting the front cover with his sleeve. He sighed; it was the book he was after, yes, but this was hardly the most exciting way to be spending a Saturday evening. Researching. His housemates were certainly doing the same, or else gathered around the tables in the common room bantering about ‘this legislation’ or ‘that piece of art’ and Draco could probably offer some very decent insight if he had the nerve to approach them after four years of outright disdain for the lot.

Suddenly he heard a quill snap at the other end of the aisle and stern footsteps storm to other side, no doubt towards the source of the laughter.

“Would you mind being quiet, please?” a familiar voice hissed, the politeness of the words in no way reflected in the rage of her tone, “we are in the library not some sort of – some sort of party.”

A chorus of sniggers and no apologies followed, but the students retreated and Draco watched as Granger, hair in disarray and face flushed red, returned to her seat. Before he could resent himself enough to stop, Draco was stood opposite, dropping the tome on the table with inconsiderate aloofness and smirking at the way it made her jump.

“Granger,” he greeted, curtly, “though it pains me to say anything in your favour, that display was almost admirable.”

Hermione glared up at him with suspicion. “What do you want, Malfoy? Certainly not to thank me, I assume.”

Draco snorted.

“Please, I wouldn’t dream of it. Nevertheless, I’m going to sit here, with you, and you going to keep your oversized mouth shut about it if you know what’s good for you.”

THE BACKGROUND:

Family: Katherine Elizabeth Bell is the younger of two children born to Conrad and Charlotte Bell. Conrad is a muggle and has worked as a football coach and now commissioner of the regional youth league in the same small town he was born and raised in. Charlotte is a muggle born witch from the next town over. Her older brother was Conrad’s best friend growing up and even their parents grew up in the same area. Conrad spent many days at Charlotte’s home kicking the ball around with Katie’s Uncle Patrick. He hadn’t paid the young chestnut haired girl much attention until she came home from boarding school with a newfound confidence and enthusiasm about her. Conrad and Charlotte started dating when he was eighteen and she was only sixteen, shortly after Patrick unveiled his sister’s secret to his best friend. Three years later the two were married and it was a surprise to everybody when Garrett Patrick Bell was born six short months later. Katie grew up idolizing her big brother Garrett, who was three years her elder. Garrett was, as far as Katie was concerned, anything but average. He was a star in the local football league until he began attending Hogwarts, where he was sorted into Gryffindor like their mother. He was a chaser on the quidditch team and taught young Katie everything he knew. What always fascinated Katie about Garrett was his modesty. When she visited Garrett at Hogsmeade in his third year at Hogwarts Katie discovered that he wasn’t one of those boys who acted like he ran the universe. Instead Garrett was kind to everybody and just as much of a goofball as he had always been. This just made Katie look up to him even more. Garrett now works for The Daily Prophet as a sports photographer and correspondent.

Appearance: Katie has never been the tallest, the prettiest, or the most unique looking girl. She has been either at or slightly above average her entire life, and that includes her appearance. At the age of sixteen she has been standing at 5'3" for two years now and doesn’t expect to grow any taller. More often than not her messy blonde hair is pulled up into a ponytail. If she has the time and her friends are persistent enough she’ll let them curl it, but Katie doesn’t see why it’s such a big deal. She’s never valued the need to look perfect or better than everybody else. Katie historically has not worn a lot of make-up and still doesn’t on days that she has quidditch practice. She lives by the phrase “I’ll choose sleep over glamour any day” but every now and then she does like to put a little more effort into her appearance. Even when Katie does wear make-up it’s still a very natural look. When she’s not in class Katie is usually found lounging around in gym shorts and a tank top or sports bra for comfort. When the weather starts to get chilly she’ll top off the recognizable ensemble with an oversized sweatshirt. If she has to wear shoes it’s usually been athletic shoes or sandals, but Katie would play quidditch barefoot if they’d let her. Although she has recently started wearing heels with her school robes since her classmates have been exceeding her significantly in the height department recently. If she’s looking for a happy medium between the athletic wear and her school uniform Katie is happy in jeans and a sweater or a dress with tights underneath.

Talents: Growing up Katie was always good at sports. She played football in the backyard with her brother and her dad and loved horseback riding. As soon as Garrett came back from his first year at Hogwarts he taught Katie how to fly and she’s been in love ever since. She is also quite talented at baking, but keeps that to herself as there aren’t very many opportunities at Hogwarts. There was only once that she snuck into the kitchens with her former quidditch captain to bake a pie after they’d lost a particularly difficult match. Katie’s academic talents are not too far above average. She is a student who is happy with an E but not completely dissatisfied with an A. When Katie does receive an O, which she has in certain years of charms and herbology and once in potions, she is proud of herself and considers it something worth sharing with her mother. She is very talented with healing charms and is known among her peers as a very patient and level-headed student. If Katie is struggling with something in the classroom she doesn’t let it get to her. She’ll hit the books for a while but sometimes she acknowledges that the subject matter just isn’t for her. Going into her sixth year at Hogwarts Katie has chosen to study herbology, charms, potions, transfiguration, and defense against the dark arts with the intention of becoming an athletically focused healer as a back-up plan in case her dream career of playing professional quidditch doesn’t work out. Charms and herbology are Katie’s easiest classes and she is anticipating that defense will be her most difficult. While the majority of Katie’s peers tell her that her struggles in the course are likely related to the high turnover rates of the professor position, Katie will admit to anybody that she feels a sense of anxiety surrounding all the talk of the need for defense, which leads to her general anxiety about the content of the course.

HOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED:

Resorting: One major difference in Katie’s life because of being sorted into Hufflepuff instead of Gryffindor is that she has yet to realize how strong of a person she really is. Katie knows that she is a strong leader and a natural talent on the quidditch pitch but she struggles with anxiety in the rest of her life. Gryffindors are constantly reminded that courage is a trait that ties them all together. Without this reminder Katie is a bit more unsure of herself. For example - Katie Bell, as she currently stands, is not someone who would show up and readily join Dumbledore’s Army. She is someone who would believe that what the organization was doing was right and just but she would be more likely to support them with words of thanks and praise than to go out and join them herself. Katie’s outlook on life and the wizarding world has remained the same. She lives with the values of equality and tolerance that she learned from her parents. She spent her first four years at Hogwarts with her brother Garrett reminding her that even though they were in different houses they were still family. This view has extended to Katie being welcoming and accepting of friends in any house as long as they live their lives in a way that aligns with the values that Katie herself holds.

Relationships: Katie has never been lacking in the friendship department - in part due to her outgoing attitude, the assistance of her brother during her first year, and her kindness towards others. She definitely has her enemies as well - particularly those who have spoken against her family or cause harm to those Katie is close to, whether it be physically or emotionally. She is very competitive so I’d imagine that rival quidditch players would either love her or hate her for it. Where Katie is lacking is the romantic relationships department. She had a crush on her first quidditch captain, a friend and mentor of her brother’s, for the longest time. In terms of anyone showing any interest in her Katie is as dense as they come. She’s never picked up on anyone having feelings for her and as a result has never had a romantic relationship with anybody. She definitely acknowledges when a man is attractive and tends to find the athletically talented attractive for their talent alone, but she would never do anything to pursue anybody unless they gave her a very obvious sign first. I don’t want to put too much attention on relationships without discussing it with others. However I have come up with the following ideas after reading the other bios: - Katie would be close with Dean Thomas due to their mutual love of football and shared house affiliation. - I think Cho could be someone Katie used to be close to in their earlier years and that she wants to reach back out to after Cedric’s death. - Roger Davies would be a ton of fun to plot with as an opposing chaser and a flirt. I think it could be an interesting rivalry to play out. Not particularly as romantic interests but as having some sort of competitive tension between them. - Marietta would be one of those people that always kind of intimidated Katie from day one at Hogwarts. - Katie would see Gregory Goyle as someone to watch over and take care of, even if it did annoy him. She wouldn’t like that people made fun of him and as a member of her team he’s automatically considered family. - Ginny is also family through the team. I don’t know how close they’d wind up being but I can definitely see a friendship forming since they’ll be on the team together and they have a shared love of their house.

Different History: Katie Bell was born in a small town to a small family, but she loved her life growing up. She was a daddy’s girl through and through but loved her mom as well. She had a big brother that she looked up to like nobody else and the family was rounded out by their golden retriever Noah. Katie didn’t want for much growing up. She had Garrett and his friends to play with during the day and snacks waiting for her when she got home in the afternoons. She attended a muggle school for the primary grades and played youth football until she left for Hogwarts at age eleven. When Katie arrived at Hogwarts she was sorted into Hufflepuff after about a minute and a half of the sorting hat deliberating. It had been torn between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff but Katie’s work ethic and desire to go her own way, despite her adoration for her big brother, found her sorted into the latter house. Katie was nervous about being on her own but quickly made friends with some of the older boys who knew who she was through Garrett and clicked with a couple of her roommates within the first week. Nothing extraordinary happened during Katie’s first year. It was the typical making friends and getting to know her new school and subjects. She made the Hufflepuff quidditch team in her second year and got lost in Hogsmeade with some friends during her third. Katie has known that there were dramatic and sometimes dangerous things happening within the castle walls but she always tries to turn a blind eye towards them. Katie was successful until the end of her fifth year - which was when she witnessed Harry Potter returning from the final task of the Triwizard Tournament with Cedric Diggory’s dead body. Now it is becoming much harder for Katie to ignore that there are things going on beyond her social life and quidditch career. Before the Triwizard Tournament there was a clear favorite for Hufflepuff’s quidditch captain. He had been on the team for five years and was a seventh year during Katie’s fifth. No one could have guessed that quidditch wouldn’t be happening, but then again at Hogwarts one always has to expect the unexpected. Before she knew it Katie was tasked with juggling the role of Hufflepuff quidditch captain in a rebuilding year, studying on a NEWT level, and deciding what she was going to do after Hogwarts - all while coming to terms with the fact that the wizarding world wasn’t as magical as she’d thought it was.

STYLE OF PLAY:

Development: I am excited to develop the idea of Katie Bell independent of the social circle I usually play her in (her original quidditch teammates). She is a character that I am very passionate about playing and I think that Hufflepuff is a great fit for her. I definitely want to explore the relationships she could have with Cho and Marietta as roommates and the ones she would have with the other members of the Hufflepuff quidditch team. I also want to see where Katie’s character development goes with the overall plot of the story. This version of Katie is very anxious about being involved with anything dramatic and isn’t naturally inclined to participate in anything related to fighting the darker forces that have come to light. I want to play out her struggle with acknowledging that there is something going on and how she deals with it. The final point I am initially excited to develop in Katie’s personality is the realization that in two years she’ll be outside of Hogwarts and expected to make a life for herself. Katie is someone who has always lived a comfortable life. It’s never been extravagant but it’s been enough for her to be happy. She knows that quidditch is where her strongest talent lies but she’s not quite confident she’s good enough to make a living once she gets out of Hogwarts.

Interactions: I enjoy gif chats quite a bit but if my muse is flowing and I have strong writing partners I love playing out stories in paragraph format. In terms of relationships - I tend to let them develop naturally but if someone has an idea for a plot I am more than welcome to listen and see what happens with it.

BOGGART: being in Slytherin, doesn’t change the fact that Fred is scared of Lord Voldemort. When confronting a boggart, Fred  tries to make Lord Voldemort wear clown clothes - in his opinion, clown clothes suit Lord Voldemort.

PATRONUS: i think his Patronus would be a monkey just for the fact that monkeys are funny and they always try to do funny tricks .(can not usually cast a corporeal one)

WHO ARE THEY?

If you would ask Fred, he would define himself as the most shrewd person alive. He’s the one who always comes up with  ideas for the pranks and little jokes, him and his twin brother make on “ innocent ” people. His position as one of the Slytherin Beater has made him even more popular than he was for his tricks and for the simple fact that he has a twin, but he wouldn’t call himself famous, just known by most of the school.He never jumps to conclusions on little evidence, always trying to make sure he’s right before speaking. He is not shy at all and most of the time, he is sarcastic. Going too far with the pranks it’s something  he usually does, but eventually George stops him and nothing crucial happens. Both of the twins don’t even know the rules, they just ignore people who instruct them what to do and do the opposite of their request.

THE BACKGROUND:

FAMILY:  Living in the shadows of his three older brothers was easy for the simple fact that he had his twin brother, George, by his side and in their opinion exams are not the path to success so they found their mother really annoying when talking about her smarter kids Percy, Bill and Charlie ; George would just laugh sarcastically at their mother as Fred would say a cunning phrase that would gain him a week of peeling potatoes empty handed. They are going to be the best, funniest, cleverest tricksters in the Wizarding World, and they are going to get rich doing it - they have a vague idea of how this is going to  happen, but nobody else knows that - yet. Everybody in the family was shocked when the twins were sorted in Slytherin like Percy and when their brother, Ron, followed their lead - they knew for once, that they did something good.

APPEARANCE: The perfect size for a Beater, he is tall, well built and identical with the other Slytherin Beater, George. He is not very attractive and he doesn’t look sweet at all ( doesn’t act sweet either), but his sculpted feature make his bright red hair stand out just like every single member of his family. When not in uniform he dresses casually, he doesn’t find robes very comfortable, and not the Muggle clothes either. He thinks that a jacket made of dragon skin would be the most comfortable clothing ever. He prefers to wear brown and green and you’ll never spot Fred dressed into another house’s colours, not even outside of Hogwarts. He doesn’t care about the latest fads or styles and favors comfort over appearance, not that he can afford the newest pair of jeans and so on, but he wouldn’t like to own them anyway.

TALENTS:

Fred is creative, inventive and smart - all the things a inventor needs. He’s the one who comes with the best ideas of inventions and pranks.

He has excellent reflexes so he is an excellent Beater and  flyer.

His favorite class is Charms because he considers charms will help him create more interesting things for what him and his twin brother have been planning for a while.

He used to hate Potion class, but he didn’t got a good mark at the O.W.L. so he doesn’t attend to that class anymore.

HOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED:

RESORTING: Being sorted in Slytherin, the so called "cunning house”, was no surprise for the twins who always thought of every single possibility - but their entire family was in a big shock. It’s told that everybody who’s in Slytherin is going to be  a Death Eater, but the twins will totally be the difference of this "rule” as their future plans did not change from canon. This house only encouraged Fred more to do what him and George think is right : to continue with doing tricks and getting rich doing it. Just being in Slytherin means you are superior to others and changed Fred’s personality from his first year at Hogwarts, he didn’t used to be so callous, but they way everyone treats him here at Hogwarts made him a person who forgets about his limits too easily, luckily George is always by his side and calms him down before he does something that he will truly regrets.

RELATIONSHIPS: George :  Fred’s closest friend it’s none other than his twin, everything he has been doing since he’s born he did with George, though sometimes they have different ideas - they are the perfect example for great team work. Ron :  For two years him and George were judged by their mother and nobody was taking their part, but when Ron was sorted into Slytherin Fred gladly stood by his side and protected him from everything said by their mother, nevertheless this made their friendship grew stronger and Fred sentimental sometimes. Ginny : At first, Fred was disappointed of Ginny because she didn’t get to be in the same house as them, but he got used to it and  tried to support her ; he knew the feeling ’ not being supported into something you like and enjoy ‘ better than anyone. Percy : Fred and Percy didn’t had a good relationship from the begging, even if they spent a lot of time together : lived in the same house and both being in Slytherin, they weren’t on good terms - but Fred got used to having Percy every summer and Christmas home, knowing he is alright. Fred was used to him always bragging about working at Ministry of Magic. What Fred didn’t expect was Percy being by the Ministry side instead of being with family as he thought he would. He was truly disappointed, he used to thought that Percy will always be there to annoy him and bother with his rules, but he chose to leave them by ignoring their mother who desperately tried to make him change his mind.  Fred is not so affected by Percy’s choice, he is just really disappointed, but he knows that eventually Percy’ll wake up to reality, and will come back to them - annoying them with work stuff and bragging about how important he is, and if he doesn’t he would be the Black Sheep of the family.

DIFFERENT HISTORY: When Fred arrived at Hogwarts, he had big plans, he wanted to be different that the other three older brothers and not just for having a twin and doing tricks. He wanted to show his mother that him and George were more than just tricksters and that being a trickster wasn’t something just for fun so being sorted in Slytherin helped him achieve one of his plans. From the beginning of his life, he lived in the shadow just because he wasn’t that good at academics as his eldest brothers that were Prefects and so on, but he always found a way to sparkle in a way along with his twin, they had big dreams - dreams to prove themselves and eventually that dreams came true. He didn’t care that he was a pure-blood too much because in his opinion, all this pure-blood supremacy was just a waste of time. In his first year, during detention he found the Marauders Map into Filch’s office and stole it. That’s how the twins, with the help of Padfoot, Prongs, Wormtail, and Moony, could walk at night on some corridors Flich didn’t even know about. As Fred liked to say, they were the Kings of Hogwarts. Growing up didn’t mean to be mature and forget about tricks, how his mother hoped. Growing up in Slytherin house meant doing even more tricks, being even more confident of their big plans and caring about academics less than at the beginning. He had lots of fights with certain people because sometimes he would take a joke too far, but everybody eventually got used to him. During his years at Hogwarts, he didn’t planned anything to get them expelled, living by his mother wish of finishing Hogwarts, but he was tired of experimenting inventions on himself - they promised to try study harder after they got a few O.W.L.S. but now that new exams are coming, he has no intention to do so. He and George have started their mail-order joke shop. They have been making prototypes for a while - the way they did in canon because this idea is flawless and I can’t ‘erase’ it. [unless an applying Harry player wishes to change what he did with the Triwizard gold, in which case you will need to come up with a scenario for how they accumulated enough money to start the shop--which honestly should be easier with them in Slytherin with lots of other ambitious children who might be talked into investing, or they could easily do something unscrupulous, or simply not have bet their money with Ludo Bagman in the first place, etc.--this all works fine]

STYLE OF PLAY:

DEVELOPMENT:  I kind of want to follow a part of the canon here, because when Umbridge will be the headmaster I’d love to see Fred and George plotting a grande departure from Hogwarts and basically seeing them improve from just tricksters to owners of a shop . And maybe complot something with Peevs to make Umbridge’s life a living hell. They’d totally join A.D. cause’ if something is dangerous, Fred’s in.

BOGGART: Fear of Death - Form that Boggart takes: A tall hooded figure with a large silver spear or sword (representing a lot like the Grim Reaper), holding a miniature version of a grave with her name enscripted on. - Form after Riddikulus charm: The figure shifts into an angel instead, most likely doing some form of dramatic dancing in a long colourful cloak. - Reason for boggart: Death can be seen as a symbol of a lot of things, and being dead is a factor of losing a lot of people, not being able to complete life goals and plans - therefore failing, feeling vulnerable and letting someone take over you and end something you were in control of etc.  Those are all things Hermione wants to particularly avoid, so death being the overall outcome would be unspeakable of her to think of.

WHO ARE THEY?

First and foremost, Hermione Granger is determined, meaning she will stop at nothing to complete tasks and general everyday things in life to the fullest of her ability, nothing and nobody can take that right and forwardness away from her. If a conflict or unresolved issue comes into her life, she will be dead set on putting it right and resolving the situation so everything can go as she plans it. Other ways of putting determined into other words relating to Hermione could be; purposeful, resolved, decided, adamant, single-minded, firm, unswerving, unwavering, undaunted, fixed, set, intent, insistent. Another big part of her life is her intelligence, which she prides and works on all of her waking moments. Hermione loves to be clever, and in some way revels in the power it can make her feel, she is always the one sitting back and trying to figure everything out in intricate detail, and is quick witted with this - constantly being the one with their hand up first in classes. Hermione has a lot of perspective, which allows her to have a lot of opinions in which she isn’t afraid to spew out if somebody comes up against her, this being the opposite of positive in few circumstances where it backfires on her, meaning she can be seen as stuck up or stubborn, leaving only few friends who are willing to put up with her quizzical and must-be-right attitude. Next, Hermione is protective, and very much so over the small group of friends she manages to make, always looking out for them and trying to keep them out of as much trouble as possible - she very much puts other peoples fortune before her own, which surprises some people as sometimes she can be quite stony-hearted and ruthless, in fear of people getting through to her and hurting her in-control mindset. Safety of others is especially important to her, and if this fails, she can feel as though it was her fault, leading to another trait in which she likes to keep well hidden; sensitivity.

THE BACKGROUND:

FAMILY: Hermione is an only child to her parents, Harriet and Patrick Granger, whom are well respected and qualified dentists at the local dentistry in the small town that they all grew up in. Hermione is close with both of her parents, but is particularly close to her mother, who still to this day sits with her on a night whenever the witch is home and talks for hours seemingly about nothing, but everything all at once. Other than her mum and dad, Hermione doesn’t have a lot of other immediate family, other than a godfather (Alan Woods), and two sets of aunts and uncles (Jennifer & Micheal Bradley and Lucy & Norbert Masters) who both have no children. Every Christmas and special occasion they all get together and it is all in all a very enjoyable experience for all, and more often than not, Hermione gets spoiled by all of them, being their ‘prized’ child as she is the only young one around out of them all. Her mother (Harriet)’s parents, both do not speak with her, for reasons they are too protective over telling Hermione about yet, and as for her father’s parents (Patrick), they are very much alive but only ever see them around once a year, being very self-righteous they like to keep themselves to themselves. This only brings Hermione closer to them as they all have time for each other. Finding out Hermione was a witch, Hermione’s parents had always been very supportive over her, not having any problems with it and even priding themselves on how lucky they are to have such a gifted daughter, it was just hard for them to see her go every year. Hermione takes after her mother for her wittiness and self preservation in a lot of ways, having watched her mother as a role model for a lot of years, quite a lot of the shaping in her personality comes from her, the way she holds herself, speaks, and treats other people. Harriet had always been very hard shelled, but her and Hermione both know they are warm and quite charming when they want to be underneath. Hermione takes after her father for intelligence but also for her stubbornness, him being very clever himself, he taught Hermione a lot of what she knows today - not so much the wizarding stuff, for obvious reasons, but he was there to teach her how to read and write, to spell and to calculate, to walk and to swim. Both of her parents are her rock, and their relationship could be envied by a lot of others.

APPEARANCE: As stated, Hermione likes to be in control, so her hair is a lot less bushy than people usual perceive it to be, taking quite a while taming it in the mornings, so it is now neatly curly or tied up into a ponytail/held back by a head band or clips. She is medium sized in height and has a slim physique, so everything falls in the right places. When out of uniform, she can usually be seen in a knee-length skirt and tights or a pair of over-washed jeans and a top, neat but colourful. Hermione’s eyes are also a deep blue, different to Emma Watson’s brown, and her hair is very slightly lighter than the original shade of chocolate, it is more a light chestnut.

TALENTS:     Classes she is best at: Transfiguration, Charms & Care of Magical Creatures.     Classes she finds hard: Astronomy & Potions.     Special skills: Good at writing at length and speed, taking in information fast, learning new things at an exceptional rate and also she is a strong swimmer when faced with the task.

HOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED:

RESORTING: Being a member of Ravenclaw as opposed to Gryffindor has changed Hermione’s personality in a way that she is more hard-headed, and one of the reasons for this is because she knows it is an underrated house compared to Gryffindor and Slytherin, which makes her want to strive to be the best just that little bit more in order to prove everyone wrong. Being a prefect she wants everyone to do well and is protective over the status of the house, and can sometimes go beyond the norm and do what it takes for them to win, trying all different ways to do it without getting into trouble. It has changed her look on the Wizarding World in a way that she knows they can be judgemental and misunderstanding, casting her to one side and therefore builds higher and more defensive opinions in which she is ready to spout at any moment.

RELATIONSHIPS: Usually being, and liking to be a lone ranger, Hermione has few friends, but the ones she does have can be called the closest ones, and are mostly based in her house, as she is usually very adverse to talking to people outside of this as her perspective of people being judgemental of her protects her from divulging too far into relationships with them. In current time, Hermione has no enemies set in concrete, but knows a lot of people dislike her, and have strong beliefs on who she is as a person, making her unpopular and overlooked, despite her best efforts and her status as Ravenclaw Prefect.

DIFFERENT HISTORY: Growing up Hermione had a very happy and lucky life, being home schooled up until she received her Hogwarts acceptance letter, she had read all the books and any information she could find, setting her sights on being placed in Gryffindor, but once there, the Sorting Hat had different ideas, and placed her in Ravenclaw. At first Hermione was disappointed, but soon learned to love it and realise it is just as good a house as any of the others. During 1991/92, Hermione had just arrived at school and very much wanted to be a part of everything, and to in all, be the best a student could be, and hearing whispering rumours about the Philosopher’s Stone and it’s history, she of course wanted to get stuck in and help. Although, she found it hard finding ways in to the mystery without getting into trouble, which she did not want, and spent a lot of time making plans and retracting them just in case something bad happened, collecting information only to throw it away. Once it was revealed it was Proffesor Quirrell who tried to steal the stone, she did try and foil his attempt by letting various teachers and people around her know, but was set back with the line of 'don’t talk such stupidity’, and she was sent away, only to watch the actual person who solved the mystery in the end take her limelight. After that, it dampened her spirits in taking part in Hogwarts’ mishaps like the opening of the Chamber of Secrets and people being petrified around her, therefore she focused on her studies instead, gaining a lot of knowledge in nearly everything and watching the bad events pass by with knowing she, herself, was succeeding in lessons, so did not need to get involved in any mystery solving. This was, up until her third year when Buckbeak was about to be slayed, she did not want to stand for that in any right, so she used her time turner to go back and correct these events, saving him and also befriending Hagrid in the process, glad to of done something to help in a subject she firmly believed in. Although she was not solely involved in the freeing of Sirius Black, she liked to believe she played her part by letting Buckbeak go and leading him to a place it was easy for Sirius to ride away with no other damage done to him. She saw others around the man, and only let Buckbeak off whilst hiding in the shadows, so to this day the students involved and Sirius himself do not know who helped him escape, only her. [ADMIN NOTE: it will be up to Draco Malfoy’s player to decide whether or not he still was attacked by Buckbeak but regardless we like your plan of having Hermione and her Time Turner on the sidelines of Sirius’s escape for other reasons, so we will totally find some way to incorporate that if/when we get a Draco player who prefers a different PoA history] As for the canon roles of Harry and Ron, with them all being in respective different houses, they have only seen eye to eye a few occasions, but she is silently jealous of their status most of the time, all in all, she is just too self reserved to try and talk to either of them, but this is very much open for change in the future.

STYLE OF PLAY:

DEVELOPMENT: I’d like to think during the course of this roleplay Hermione will just generally grow as a person and become more humane and open to others, given she makes accurate relationships with people around her. I think she will contribute to the group in a way she has a different dynamic in all, being very opinionated and stubborn, it will be fun to see whether she befriends or makes enemies with people, some possibly more surprising than others. I’d also like to see her getting involved more in dramatic plots like battling, going against forces, becoming braver as a whole. I do love to go with the flow and just see what happens, but to see her becoming less hard hearted and gather a gaggle of friends would be great!

INTERACTIONS: I love all types of interaction! Ranging from gif chats to long paragraphs, I’m very versatile when it comes to that! I would say I’m not the best at very short conversations as I run out of things to say, but if we’re just conversing then a few sentences will do! Oh, and I also prefer action form instead of just words when we interact, but again, I love everything! As for ships, I am a firm believer of chemistry over what is written in stone, so can be flexible with a lot of things. I will be honest though, I have and always will be very interested in Ron/Hermione, and am very excited for them to interact giving the different dynamics, but it’s not endgame, I am willing and up for anything, well, other than Hermione/Teacher, or some dark wizard. I am most eager for Hermione to interact with – umm, I’d actually say everyone, there’s nobody that specifically comes to mind, other than maybe Ginny, as I love the two of them interacting no matter what differences they have to canon.

PROPOSED ALTERATIONS:

CANON CHANGES: I think one of the only changes other than the ones I’ve stated already is her involvement in S.P.E.W, because this different version of Hermione I am creating is a bit more reserved and I think would know that she wouldn’t get many people to support her, so keeping House-Elf rights a strong opinion in her head, that is where it is going to stay for now.

WRITING SAMPLE: This. This was it. Friday 26th June 2015. This wasn’t just any day, this was the day Daniel Reyes had marked on his calendar for almost three years, and in his brain, the day was marked since forever. It would never leave either, today was make or break time. To win or to lose, to succeed or to fail, to live or to die. He paced the room, up and down, up and down, corner of his thumb against his lips as he grazed the skin slowly with his teeth, feeling anxious, and tense. He had no one thought on his mind, it was several, sprinting down the lane and knocking down different images as metaphorical hurdles down and into his path. 6:00pm. 1 hour to go. 1 long hour.

Danny probably hadn’t looked as white in his whole life, and he occasionally glanced at his suit, and away again, it only making him feel slightly sick. Judas Kiss had been submitted to the judges and it was the single most important thing he’d ever completed in his life. He not only wanted to win for himself, but for Stephen too. The two of them had worked so hard to get there. He wanted that prize so badly and the future that came with it. That’s all he’d ever wanted, to be a filmmaker, to do something that he loved and not be stuck in some dead end job that he couldn’t stand. He wanted to create stories that would move people and change the way they saw things forever, to have the world at his fingertips and to let his creativity flow. To feel like he actually belonged somewhere, had worth, had power.

Tick tok, tick tok, it was like the silver clock on the wall was seeking him out and haunting him, as though Danny could hear every single second counting down to the film festival, it made him shiver how alert he was right now, and how much of an impact this one day would have on him, he couldn’t use his arrogant ways to get him places now, it all came down to what he’d put in his short film, and the way the audience would react to it, all whilst Danny had to sit there, much feeling like a black sheep compared to all the other directors who came in packs, supporting each other. He was always the different one. His films were too weird, too bloody, too bloody weird, they said. It stung, but he was determined to prove them wrong, and to be right was an amazing feeling he’d never let go of. Pulling on his suit and tie, he fastened himself in by his top button, but then pulled a face at how formal he looked, all in black and the only innocent thing about his exterior right now was the fact he had a white shirt on, everything else was dark, much like he felt right now. 6:30pm. Half an hour to go. He brushed out his crazy black hair, making it straight and he patted it down, shining his shoes at the same time, doing everything and anything to distract his mind. Even the speech had him in bits when he thought about it, making up words on the spot, when and if he even won. No. He could do this, he was confident and strong. Nothing could stop him now. He was going to do this, and he was going to win it.

6:45pm, Danny arrived at the Grand Hall in the University, seeing it laced with chairs and heads of people piling in, the wooden podium and the gigantic screen at the top. He saw the judges sat, stern faced and waiting, and Danny gave a curt nod to each of them as he passed, before finding his seat. All the other contestants were excitedly buzzing in front of him, whilst Danny sat alone, giving himself silent pep talks to try and calm down. He looked up when he heard someone else sitting beside him, Stephen. The male looked at him and gave a smile and a few positive words, being his director and all, but the two had also grown to be good friends during the project. He so hoped this prize would be his, so he could half it and offer Stephen the acting career he more than deserved later in life.

7:00pm. It was time, all the lights went out, followed by a solemn silence one the crowd had gasped a little. The first contestant was up, and it was actually his roommate Chris with his shortfilm; Galactic. He looked over at him and gave a small smile, before focusing in on his work, always keeping that one eye on the judges to check their reactions. Time went by, and lots of beautiful talent had been expressed on the screen, and it was only now that Danny thought he’d blown it. His name momentarily flashed up on the screen and it was now his time. Judas Kiss was being shown to hundreds of people and he couldn’t have felt more on edge, he even sat forward in his seat. He saw his opening scene and the zooming out on Stephen’s face, followed by several scenes of abusive tendencies and heated arguments, Father and Son, at war. As it came to a conclusion, there was silence in the room, as the audience were not allowed to express their views yet, as weren’t the judges, they were just scribbling furiously at their notepads.

The headteacher of the University stood up to the podium and addressed all filmmakers, and explained how the judges were conferring. ‘’I’m not going to win, am I?’’ Danny muttered to the male sat beside him, eyes filled with longing. He swallowed, as the tallest female judge of the panel stood up and walked to the stage, a pry smile on her face, but she seemed innocent enough; ‘’Myself and the rest of the judges have had a long think about who the true winner of this years film festival should be, and in this envelope is the name of the person who we have chosen. A special well done is due here to all participants in this competition, we loved you all.’’ She gave a curt nod. ‘’Now, let’s get to it,’’ ‘’The winner of 2015’s annual film festival goes to…’’ Danny’s whole body seemed to stop working, and he shook his head, being the stubborn personality he was, he couldn’t deal with the rejection he thought he was going to receive, and he bottled it. ‘’Fuck this.’’ He muttered and dashed for the stairs.

THE BACKGROUND:

FAMILY: Most of Susan’s family are dead. Her Uncle Edgar, Aunt Eumalda, and their children Martin, Arcturus, Sian, Patricia, and Gretchen -- all dead. Her grandparents Hortense and William, dead. All of them killed by Death Eaters during the war. Susan’s parents survived because they ran away, left England two weeks after their baby daughter was born. They didn’t come back for the funerals; didn’t come back until Voldemort was dead and they thought England was safe again. The sole surviving Bones left in England was Amelia and she barely forgave her brother Terrance for not being there when she and Edgar buried their parents; wouldn’t have forgiven him at all for not being there when she alone buried their brother and his wife and children if not for the intervention of Susan’s mother, Charlotte: she insisted that Amelia at least had to see little Susan who wasn’t at fault and deserved to know what little family she had left and Amelia couldn’t argue that point. She eventually thawed (a little) toward Terry but she never really respected him again. To that end she decided that it was her duty to be deeply involved in Susan’s life so she wouldn’t turn out like her dad and Susan is very close to her intimidating no-nonsense aunt.

APPEARANCE: Kinda short, really cute, big bright smiles. Wavy gold-brown hair, light brown skin, dark brown eyes, serious eyelashes. Pouty lips, dainty hands, plump breasts. Dresses to conceal and downplay them because she’s embarrassed her tits maturing faster than most of her friends’. Wears Muggle-style clothes a lot: denims, sweaters, jackets, scarves, layers. Slight “DIY” style with knit hats and shrugs and stuff like that she makes. Likes corals, greens, purples, etc. Never wears heels; feels wobbly on them. Likes funky jewelry: long pendant necklaces, clunky earrings, stuff like that.

TALENTS: best at Charms & Herbology. Loves Care of Magical Creatures but not awesome at it. Also enjoys Astronomy but is only average at it. Not very good at Ancient Runes and going to drop it after O.W.L.s. Not good at DADA either but that may be because the teachers almost all suck lol. She definitely won’t be great at Apparition once they start learning that (splinched her leg in lessons in HBP)! Non-school skills: she likes to knit and play darts which Aunt Amelia taught her. Pretty good at housekeeping spells but terrible at cooking magic.

HOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED:

RESORTING: She’s more willing to try new things and understands the value of keeping an open mind. Starting to grow out of the desire to be “normal” and fit-in although still skittish about being too weird. Has more respect for curiosity and alternate view-points (but not so much that she doesn’t think that Lovegood is freaky-odd!) and is willing to question people more, even her auntie. Still toes pals with Amelia, but thinks she works a little too hard and should lighten-up some, maybe cut her dad a break (which imo she did not think in canon b/c Hufflepuffs are all about that stuff). Gets slightly better grades on tests but turns in less coursework because she’s around a lot of intelligent people but not as surrounded by dutiful hard-workers so she slacks on work more but studies harder to compensate. (If I understand brit schooling right that means her overall grades are a little better because teachers don’t give a shit what grades you get on homework, that’s just to help you learn.) Viewpoint on the world: same in consideration of what’s right/wrong and where she stands on blood-purity and Voldemort and all that, but more open-minded toward individual people and less judgy especially about weirdos. Admires her aunt for her iconoclastic views a little more, but admires her for her dedication to work and unforgiving attitude a little less.

RELATIONSHIPS: Susan’s big on trying to be normal, so she doesn’t do too much to make herself stand-out (that’s Auntie Amelia’s schtick) so she’s not exactly popular and there are probably people who’ve shared classes with her for five years who don’t know her name (like Harry in canon lol) but she’s also not a bully-target so that’s okay with her. Friends with Parvati and Lavender would be great because they share a dorm; given her family connections it makes sense that she would be friendly with folks like Ernie Macmillan and Draco Malfoy too, since they’ve got families influential with the Ministry (well I assume Ernie does, maybe not; we’ll see how that goes when/if he gets apped) but of course this year things will get tense with Malfoy because all of a sudden blood-supremacy and shit like that matters. She’s gonna be firmly on the anti-Voldemort side so now all of a sudden Malfoy isn’t just the slightly snobbish swot she shares classes with, he’s somebody who’s (presumably) going to pick the other side, so there will be strain there (if they were friendly in the first place, which I’d really like to explore that if the Draco player is up for it!).

DIFFERENT HISTORY: Susan Bones didn’t know that she came from a family of dead folks right away; it was something that obvioiusly colored how the whole family (what was left of it) acted but they didn’t want to scar Susan by talking about it when she was too young. When they finally did sit her down and tell little Suz all about the war and how she’d had a lot more relatives once upon a time when she’d been a baby, it explained a lot even though she was still pretty young and didn’t fully grasp everything for a few more years. But she went along when her parents and her aunt visited the graves and she dutifully listened to the stories of people she didn’t know and tried to pretend she remembered them. She doesn’t remember living in America either, because she was so little, but she’s got the pictures to prove it happened. That’s all she’s got of most of her family too, which she didn’t realize was weird until she went to Hogwarts and heard people talk about their living relatives. At Hogwarts she was Sorted into Ravenclaw, which made her aunt happy because Amelia had been a Ravenclaw herself and she thought that her old house of weirdos and swots was the perfect place to encourage Susan to come out of her shell. She told Suz as much when she wrote to tell her auntie where she’d been sorted and to ask for tips in dealing with that darn riddle. (Riddles are not Susan’s strength but she does okay now after a few years of practice.) Life was pretty similar overall for Susan to what it was in canon, although being in Ravenclaw meant that she had to try harder to be seen as normal because folks just tend to assume that Ravenclaws are strange whereas Hufflepuffs pass under the radar habitually. She’s learned to embrace her own swottiness a little bit more and being around so many eccentric folk is making her loosen up. The main differences for Susan between being a Hufflepuff and being a Ravenclaw are yet to come. Now that Umbridge is here and Voldemort is back, she’s gonna have to come to terms with a lot of stuff that she could put-off, and being in Ravenclaw means she’s gonna be less content to follow other folks’ lead with that. She’s gonna be too curious and she’s gonna stick her nose into things that maybe she shouldn’t. And she’s gonna want to talk to peeps like Harry and Neville about what the war did to them. Maybe even peeps like Draco? That might be stretching it but then again curiosity is a dangerous vice so she might just stick her neck out too far and get in some trouble for it lol!

STYLE OF PLAY:

DEVELOPMENT: Oh she is totally gonna have to get used to being noticed. Susan isn’t going to just sit back and let Voldemort and his peeps walk all over her, not when she’s got a graveyard full of relatives because of them, and since she’s a Ravenclaw that means she’s going to have to come to terms with the fact that being weird is okay. I want her to discover that individuality is cool, that putting on a mask that makes people think you’re normal stifles you, all that jazz. She should totally lose her temper eventually too because with her family history she’d make a good spark for the whole resistance-thing. She could inspire or at least scold other students into standing up against Umbridge (and later Voldemort too) and because she’s totally close to Auntie Amelia she can get a inside line to the Ministry maybe or at least share gossip about Umbridge. In the books Susan doesn’t really understand what’s going down until HBP it seems when everybody starts talking about her dead relatives but she ought to be more down with things both b/c of family history and b/c she should hear inside stories from Amelia. I want to take advantage of her Ministry connection somehow, maybe on behalf of the D.A. (if there is one and if she’s in it lol) or maybe just individually. I love the idea of uber normal little Susan being totally close with her weird firecracker aunt so I def want to do things with that! Plus obviously I want to give Umbridge a hard time because you doesn’t right?

DIGNITY AND POWER: I like the idea of Susan losing if there’s somebody who will comfort her after lol! Otherwise winning is totally better but angst is good too so I don’t mind losing if it’s for a good plot. I totally want to embarass and upset her though because isn’t torturing your favorite characters the whole point? Comfort zone: if I didn’t want to leave that I wouldn’t be in a roleplay where everybody’s in a different house so let’s do this thing!

INTERACTIONS: I like gif chats cause I’m an instant gratification kind of girl lol. I like to save paras for things that are important otherwise they feel kind of pointless like why am I spending time examining my character’s feelings about shoes you know? I like a good para that’s got a good point though I just don’t like doing it for no reason cause they take longer. Ships: I usually ship Susan with Megan Jones who isn’t here lol so let’s try something new! I’ve also shipped her with Hermione and Hannah and Lavender sometimes but of course everybody is totally different here so let’s get some different ships going too hell yeah. I want Susan to interact with her old Hufflepuff peeps now that they’re in different houses that’ll be fun. Also Harry and Neville cause they’re the three kids who lost the most family in the war probably so they’ve got stuff in common even if they don’t really think about it and now that Voldemort’s back shit is getting real; they can bond.

BOGGART: It’s embarrassing, but the boggart frequently takes the form of a more grotesque giant squid, which she would use the Riddikulus Charm to put in a top hat and dress robes with little fancy shoes for each tentacle. When she was a first year, one of the sixth years convinced little Alicia that the giant squid broke through the glass once and it was terrible. Against better reason, this stuck in her mind and gave her nightmares. She has grown to think of this fear as somewhat silly, so the boggart (should she encounter it at present) would likely try taking on a manticore, which she would have to wrap in a big pink bow and then give cute and enormous kitten ears and whiskers.

PATRONUS: Her incorporeal patronus would take the form of a bird of prey, which upon closer examination she would recognize as an osprey.

PET: None. She had an owl once, but her younger brother made better friends with it, so she did not have the heart to tell him no. Now, she wishes she had a cat or something.

WHO ARE THEY?

Alicia is a hard-working, determined young woman. Sometimes, she feels overshadowed by her closest friends having such strong personalities, but they never make her feel like less because of it. Sweet, considerate, almost motherly, she makes sure that her people are content to the best of her ability. Sometimes, her thinking can be a little too black and white for others’ taste. If she decidedly likes somebody, then they are a friend, and she will treat them as such even if they do not know one another well. She has no patience for the people not on her good side, and is more apt to dislike people who are not obviously friendly. The strong, silent type makes her wary, and she is more forgiving of girls than boys outside of her circle.

While she does not always talk about her dreams, she wants desperately to be successful. Alicia cherishes a rich inner life where she can be successful, and lately that path to happiness has been quidditch. She won’t shut up about Quidditch, wondering aloud if anybody else heard about that vulnerable spot on the Wanderers, showing off her predictions for the next World Cup (of course she had to go)… To those who pay attention, it is simple to find out where her thoughts are, and for them her heart is on her sleeve. To the more unobservant others, she can seem an enigma, but she is horrid enough at lying (and sees little reason to do so) that her true colors show through easily enough.

THE BACKGROUND:

FAMILY: Alicia’s family is normal enough; her mum (Jaina), dad (Nathaniel, or Nate), and younger siblings (Brandon and Daniella) are quite tight. They have some extended family, but some sort of drama has limited their influence. She seems her cousins maybe once every two or three years, and is not at all sure what her mum’s parents are like, apart from them not living in Great Britain. Brandon is a fourth year Gryffindor, and Daniella a second year Ravenclaw, so she sees less of them than she would prefer. As they have gotten older and become teenagers, Brandon and Daniella are much less fond of Alicia’s “help” because she is at her most s-motherly when it comes to them. The most that her siblings have conceded to is weekly walks on the grounds that they frequently wriggle out of. While Alicia loves her parents dearly, she knows much less about them as people than she would like. She knows they are definitely not pure of blood, that her mum’s family is probably not European, and that her parents want the best for her. It was instilled in Alicia and her siblings from birth that they are not any more special than muggles or muggleborns just because they can do magic. Everyone has their talents, and they come from all variety of origins.

APPEARANCE: While a pretty girl, Alicia “lets herself go” closer to game days. Ordinarily, yes, she will wear her hair up because it is just that much more practical, but she likes it that way. She struggles to tame her thick dark hair perfectly, and it feels most comfortable and manageable out of her face. Chasers don’t need the bulk of a beater or even a keeper, but Alicia has a little more muscle in her arms than Seychelle from excessive practice- thanks, Angelina!  She feels taller while flying, her less than average height and slim figure do not make her terribly intimidating in person. More than a couple family friends and extended family have commented that perhaps quidditch is not the most ideal career looking like that. Fashion-wise, she follows wizarding styles closely and muggle ones more readily than anything else non-magical. Make-up is fun, and she subjected Angelina to more than one disturbing makeover when they were twelve. She pores over fashion magazines, and makes extensive collages in her free time of clothes she would never buy but that she likes in theory. Her attire is an occasionally haphazard mix, as she has a predilection for high-heeled muggle shoes when game days are nowhere near. She pairs them with denim trousers under robes, as skirts frequently feel redundant underneath. Perhaps if she was not so enamored with quidditch, Alicia would consider a career in fashion, but it has rarely occurred to her as anything other than a hobby.

TALENTS: Alicia is bright in some regards, but not any better than the average student as a whole. She excels in Charms, where she enjoys the creativity in presentation. Her enthusiasm with wand-waving while practicing has led to some questionable results, which she has dutifully shared with Fred and George in case they find her most interesting mistakes useful. Her skill in charms perhaps comes from her willingness to keep trying in spite of failure. And although she is not quite sure what she will do with it after graduation, she is one of the odd students happy to continue for an Astronomy N.E.W.T.. Alicia remembers her star charts astonishingly well, and prides herself on never getting lost at night. A fair hand at Transfiguration, she did well in class and on her O.W.L.s, and continued the N.E.W.T. because she could not think of anything better. It did not have quite the same appeal as Charms, but it is at least more of a challenge. Initially, Alicia took on Arithmancy because of the promises of it being intriguing, and she feels “stuck” continuing it into her N.E.W.T. years. It is the subject that she wishes that she could drop since the other ones come so easily, but she imagines that a good score in Arithmancy will secure her success. Four N.E.W.T.s seemed like a good number to handle, so she dropped everything else without any bad feelings. It is only because her Head of House is Snape that she is relatively competent at potions, but she did not put quite the same determination into succeeding at the subject than her others. It was a subject she was happy to drop. History of Magic made her uncharacteristically anxious, and she spent the majority of those lessons wide awake and concerned about why everyone else was sleeping when she could not figure out what in the world was going on. Divination always felt like a joke, Herbology was okay but not worth the extra effort, Defense Against the Dark Arts too difficult to comprehend with the revolving door of teachers, and she got the heck out of Muggle Studies after fourth year anyway. Flying is where her heart is, and she is at her best and happiest when she gets to do that. Her quidditch friends are her greatest, and she does her best to succeed at it. 

HOW THINGS HAVE CHANGED:

RESORTING: While still a good, just person to have as a friend, a Slytherin Alicia is even more territorial of those she considers “her” people. More withdrawn, less outgoing, she is not quite at ease in her house despite liking it. And while her temper in an alternate universe might flare, she is somewhat scarier to behold here. People took her seriously before, but she let a little of Slytherin’s power-ideals muddle some more in her head. She has become more thoughtful in all other situations, and seemingly more passive until she sees an opportune moment. I do not think that Alicia is as fussed about the house itself, and she was surprised either way not to be placed in Hufflepuff. Her desire for results is what drives her, however, and in this case the house saw her fervent hopes for success than glory and acknowledgement as significant. Alicia might have more close friends in Slytherin, but that is mostly out of convenience, and when questioned will immediately defend her house as a whole. A quarter of the student body are not blood supremacists, and everyone knows that the worst of them could lurk elsewhere too! It’s a sore spot, and one where she does not always defend her case particularly effectively. I was considering changing this, but she still only made reserve chaser in her second year, because Slytherin’s team looks like it was chock full of talent with a winning streak like that. And if Angelina was probably still the one who made the team the previous year, then Alicia had some serious catching up to do. Reserve chaser probably just made her all the more hungry to do better, so I could not take away that year of weakness while her friends were out there playing.

RELATIONSHIPS: Alicia is not quite popular, but she is well-liked enough. She tends not to speak up in class unless nobody else knows the answer. Readily, she will befriend a person she likes, but almost as easily will loathe someone who gives her good reason to despise them. Mercifully, she has made few true enemies. Ordinarily, she is content for her friends to be the more vocal ones.

ANGELINA JOHNSON: Alicia considers Angelina her closest friend, and they spend even more time together than previously. As yearmates that presumably room together who are both quidditch-mad, it is merciful that they get along. Angelina’s hilarious in a way that the Weasley twins can’t be, since Fred and George almost take humor too seriously. A part of Alicia is jealous that her friend got chosen as captain over her since everyone knows who the better shot is, but in the end Angelina is probably the better leader. Alicia does not know what she would do with that kind of power if it would get in the way of her playing. Out of everything, Alicia wants to win, and she will stick with Angelina and her brutal training if it means that she will become the best that she can be- that they can be the best that they can be. Ideally, Alicia would like them both to play professionally.

CORMAC MCLAGGEN: While Alicia finds Roger Davies charming enough, McLaggen grates on her nerves. He epitomizes just about everything she loathes: complacency, carelessness, and overconfidence. It is not like she would rather have the second best keeper on the pitch, even if Ron is her friends’ little brother. It takes a lot to put her over the edge, but this year it will probably be McLaggen who does it the most.

FRED and GEORGE WEASLEY: She wishes that they were more sensible about school sometimes. but it would be hypocritical for her to expect the best from them. It’s always a good time with Fred and George, except when their pranks get too out of hand. Just about always, she lets their shenanigans go, because it isn’t like they are hurting anybody, right? Fred’s more fun, but George is more thoughtful, so she could never choose just one of them.  Never has Alicia been known for her sense of humor, but she will happily play the straight man and let them do their thing.

HUFFLEPUFF QUIDDITCH: KATIE BELL, CHO CHANG, GINNY WEASLEY, GREGORY GOYLE: The Hufflepuff team is definitely the only other team that she is okay with doing well in the House Cup. With Gryffindor full of some dreadfully dumb lugs and Ravenclaw never making much of a showing, Alicia likes a friendly rivalry well enough with Hufflepuff. The badger house might not have the greatest reputation among her own, but she thinks of Katie as a friend and something of a kindred spirit, Cho as nice and competent enough, and Ginny as someone she desperately wished Slytherin had on their team (She imagines Roger is the weakest link, even if he’s actually rather good). Alicia finds their new teammate Goyle pretty questionable (not that they’ve ever spoken), but if he makes Hufflepuff substantial rivals, then he is all good in her book.

HARRY POTTER, RON WEASLEY: If her friends are like family, then Harry and Ron are something of younger cousins. Sure, Alicia’s a little skeptical (since it is the Ministry against his word Harry’s word time around), but she can see that he is earnest, and he is a friend. As for Ron, she feels bad for the guy, but he’ll probably make the main team eventually when it is the right time.

DIFFERENT HISTORY: Alicia’s family comes from all over, but they settled south of Dumfries most recently. On her father’s side, that was not at all that recently. She grew up in a little house near enough to civilization, but far enough removed that she grew up with few enough friends, apart from her parents’ school friends. Although she played with their children, her siblings became her closest friends instead. It helped that she was the oldest, but Alicia surprised more than one of her brother’s bullies half of her height with her height.

School was excellent, even if Alicia became dreadfully homesick for the first month out. It did not help when her owl took to her brother Brandon, leading to delays in owl post. Eventually, she figured that she might as well make the long way up to the owlery if she needed to get a message out. Things became much better once she allowed some friends into her inner circle- people like Angelina, Fred, and George. Hogwarts became a great place once she had people to care about there. Her siblings were still incredibly important to her, but they did not carry the only pieces of her heart anymore.

Even though she enthusiastically followed quidditch as a child (”PRIDE OF PORTREE: IT’S ALL OR NOTHING!”), she never let herself think she would be terrifically talented at it until she got to Hogwarts. Borrowing her dad’s commuter Swiftstick was never a good broom to play with in pick-up games with the nearest wizarding kids, so she was overjoyed by her success in that first flying class. With the seed planted in her mind, she started practicing, asking Madam Hooch for permission to borrow the school brooms until she could persuade her parents to get her one of her own. Second year, she was allowed to try out, and at least made the reserve team. She got a grand total of zero time on the field, but Alicia was sure by the end of the year she would have been just as good as the rest of the chasers. At try-outs her third year, she finally made the main team, and the captain patted themselves on the back for that one. Slytherin’s team was a powerhouse, and Alicia was over the moon to make it for real.

Third through fifth years felt like a blur of quidditch wins and losses, dumb jokes and pranks with her friends, and mysterious going-ons from dark forces. An independent, modern thinker, Alicia’s skepticism of the Prophet made her more inclined to believe word of mouth, but not everyone’s ideas were so desirable either. As rumors spread throughout the years, she had to wonder exactly who to trust. The Quidditch World Cup made her sick to her stomach when she thought about it; for her mental health’s sake, she separated the fantastic game from the horrific return of wizarding terrorism in the public eye. Alicia did not stick around to see the end result, and got out of there as soon as possible, luckily before the worst of it started. Then the Triwizard Tournament came up, and Alicia was glad not to be old enough to compete. It sounded like a pain to her, so she was happy to hope for Angelina to at least get a hshoQuidditch was cancelled after that, which meant she had to improvise in order to stay skilled and relevant. She does not think it was her idea to continue practices wherever they could, but Alicia was pleased to at least have an excuse to fly. The end of her sixth year shook her up considerably. After all, Cedric was in her year; they had shared classes and the occasional good conversation, She was even inclined to consider him a friend. But she tries not to let it bother her too much when she cannot do anything about it while at school.

Her grades were never stellar, and decent-but-not-her-best O.W.L.s were a wake-up call that she should ensure her success. Quidditch might be her career goal, but Alicia is secretly terrified that she will not make it. She wants to play quidditch for a living so badly, and she knows she’s excellent, but there has to be a back-up plan. Witches and wizards are stubbornly hardy and few in number, so there are only so many quidditch spots open for trying out. But she has been a reserve player before, and it was not so bad. Hopefully, she can pull some sort of income out, and her grades are her best excuse for a back-up plan. Dividing her efforts between those mind-numbing N.E.W.T.s and quidditch is surprisingly difficult, but she manages.

STYLE OF PLAY:

DEVELOPMENT: I’m interested in seeing how the world fleshes out as other people apply with even the most tangential connection to mine. I’m full of curiosity, because even sticking different characters in the same place changes the dynamic. It’s a paradigm shift party, and I am especially, especially curious to how the characters will react to Umbridge’s inquisition. The fifth book was really the one of rebellion, and I’m wondering about how inter-house unity could go now that Slytherin is such different territory. Honestly, how did any of the semi-major events in the story go? Who was where? We get to figure all of that out, and even minor characters like Alicia were around with different perspectives. Besides that, trio-era roleplays are not at all popular, and I have never been a part of one. It’s always been Marauders, Albus Severus era, or waaaaay in the future for me. I want to see hoe people play these characters, because they are still themselves at heart without being a retread of the books!

INTERACTIONS: I love gif chats and chatzy, but I’m also fond of paras when my partner is as enthused as I am! Since I have been roleplaying for so long, I have had more than a few para threads unceremoniously dropped on me, which make me wary to put in hard work for something that will be ignored. For this reason, I tend to be more interested in paras with characters with a deep connection to mine. I write my best then, and I am more likely to get a reply. I do ship Katie/Alicia, but the dynamic would be changed because of the resorting, so I’m even more seriously open to whatever happens. I want to play with anybody and everybody. It’s a Hogwarts roleplay, I’m playing something close to an OC, and everyone will have fully developed characters, so I’m even more interested in how friendships develop and change than simply ships. I am super psyched to have friends for my character, and hammer out what kind of dynamic they have. I hope there are group interactions, even group paras, since a lot of friendships seem to depend on the collective. The one downside of strictly dash roleplaying is when everyone gets set on one on one dynamics and can only talk about other players. I, for one, enjoy when a third person leaps into a non-private dash conversation to spout some bizarre semi-relevant comment and disrupts the flow! I love surprises, which is part of why I roleplay; I can’t control any character but my own. It’s fun not to know what is going to happen next, and I struggle at plotting when Ii do not have good reason to. For what I do like in shipping, I’m less interested in love/hate relationships for romance in general, and I tend to be more into female/female ships. Those are roleplaying tendencies, though, and things are open.
