Bagan Ajam residents urge Guan Eng to resolve eviction issue

GEORGE TOWN, June 20:

Representatives from 50 families in Pantai Bersih, Bagan Ajam, who are facing eviction submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today.

They urged him to intervene and resolve the predicament that has befallen them.

A spokesman for the residents, Wong Seak Li, 40, said they had included a petition with the signatures of all the families involved and appealed to Lim to prevent any form of demolition from taking place until negotiations were completed.

“We also hope the Chief Minister takes appropriate action and negotiates with the developer on our behalf.”

He said this after submitting a memorandum to the Chief Minister’s political secretary, Wong Hon Wai at the Tun Abdul Razak Complex here today.

“We will look into it and will follow up with the developer. This is the first time I am dealing with the residents on this issue,” Wong said.

On Tuesday, the media reported that residents must evacuate the area by August to make way for projects that had not been determined yet —  whether for housing or an undersea tunnel connecting Bagan Ajam to Gurney Drive here.
