Reon is a very peaceful person. Ā Heās never gotten into a fight. Ā Heās able to resolve the most vindictive of conflicts between his friends. Ā Hell, heās training to be a schoolteacher. Ā But when Semi says the Skyscraper doesnāt look that special, Reon nearly punches his friend in the face.
āItās not the look that counts, though, right?ā Yamagata says, tugging on Reonās arm and shooting him a warning glance. Ā āItās the sound.ā
Reon takes a deep breath, lets the tension flow out of his shoulders. Ā āExactly.ā
As he leads his friends towards the club, more pieces of the band slowly become audible. Ā A piano, banging out wild chords. Ā A saxophone and trombone, trading syncopated riffs. Ā And a trumpet, soaring above the sound like an airplane dancing with the clouds.
Thereās a line to get in, which has Goshiki ooh-ing and aah-ing, and Semi and Shirabu complaining, and Yamagata pulling out a bag of chips heād somehow stashed in his pants pocket. Ā Reon doesnāt mind the wait (heād be surprised if there wasnāt a wait), but every time the door opens and he catches another, louder glimpse of the music, he feels something in him itching, as though an invisible string tied him to something inside that club and he needs to follow its pull.
