Welcome! Please read me!
Greetings. This is a Tumblr blog dedicated to my (and a friend who shall stay anonymous) Don't Starve Together Reverse AU. As suggested by the title, almost each existing character has been swapped with someone else. My version of what it means to "swap" a character is a little different from most: I don't swap personalities, but rather I put them in the opposing character's shoes. Swapping personalities just recreates the original media, and I want to avoid that. Before I explain how I'll run this blog, who's swapped with who, and tags, I want to clarify a few things and set some ground rules. You can call me Ren. I'm an adult with a few qualifications in History, English, and Creative Writing. I have several degrees and I've won awards for my writing, and I'm published in several books. As such, I do a significant amount of research for each step of this fan project, but I am human and I'm prone to making mistakes. If you see an inaccuracy that I may have overlooked or I've otherwise not mentioned, please let me know. Additionally, every piece of art and writing I'll use on this blog is completely hand-made. I do not support AI, and I never will. You do not have my permission to use anything here for AI or anything similar. This blog will have heavier/darker themes, like the original Don't Starve and early Don't Starve Together. This is meant for an older audience, and you must be 16+ in order to engage and read the work on my blog. These themes will be discussed later on in this post. This is not meant to be a roleplay blog, and I will not engage with roleplay comments/messages (although you are welcome to leave them! I like reading them). Bigotry and negativity is not welcome here, but criticism is always accepted. Now that's out of the way...
CONTENT WARNING: This blog will contain discussions of abuse (physical, mental, and psychological, between romantic partners, siblings, from parents, and to platonic partners), implied sexual abuse (very light, this will never even approach NSFW territory), period-typical bigotry (including racism, sexism, queerphobia, transphobia, and xenophobia), Don't Starve Together-typical violence (towards both adults and children), cannibalism, torture, body horror (towards both adults and children), mentions of slavery (between both humans and other species), Don't Starve Together-typical horror (towards both adults and children), gore (towards adults and rarely children), graphic depictions of death (towards adults), and mentions of child death. Viewer discretion is advised-- please make sure you blacklist any tags you may be uncomfortable with.
This blog will be run like an interactive Wikipedia page. When I post lore, character dynamics, game mechanics, and so-on, you are welcome to leave comments, send in submissions and asks, reblog, whatever you wish. As long as you don't send anything bigoted, overtly negative, or inappropriate for the audience (16+), you are welcome to send anything. Asks and submissions will be responded to as soon as I'm able/have the energy to; I will not respond to comments unless they interest me. Interactions between characters may be posted, but they are not meant to be roleplay starters, but instead a look into character dynamics. Character Swaps are as follows: Wilson & Maxwell: Wilson is the first Nightmare King, known as Percival, and finds the Codex Umbra on earth after a failed science experiment nearly kills him. Maxwell is known as William, and never finds the Codex, stuck as a mediocre magician. Charlie & Willow: Willow becomes the Grue after Wilson drags them both to the Constant. Willow is Wilson's twin sister, and the two share an unnatural connection. Charlie is William's beard, and the two do not have a romantic relationship. She is a very successful musician and performer in Harlem, while William... Wolfgang & Wes: Wes is a performer struggling to make ends meet when minstrel shows fall out of fashion in the early 20th century. He often plays the role of the solider in his group of all-black minstrel performers-- although his real desire is strength. He is completely mute due to a childhood injury, and knows sign language. Wolfgang is a German immigrant acting as a street performer in California. He is very frail and weak and he knows it, gaining an audience by lifting massive weights despite his small stature: in actuality, though, these weights are just balloons. His brother is far more successful than he is, sponsoring future scientific endeavors, and it frustrates Wolfgang when he's mistaken for his brother. Wendy & Abigail: Instead of her sister, Wendy is the one who dies under strange circumstances. To cope with this, Abigail pretends as though her sister is alive and well, inspiring the other survivors with her happy-go-lucky attitude. She completely shuts down if anyone tries to mention the fact that her sister is dead. WX-78 & Wormwood: WX-78 is a robot totally dedicated to the preservation of nature. They are often found covered in moss, with trees growing out of their wires. They become distraught when plants are harmed in a way that goes against the natural order. Wormwood is a piece of THEM given life in a plant body. He considers himself superior to other plants, and loathes his plant body, often trying to replace his plant parts with robotic parts. He considers himself a prince of sorts, although shadow creatures barely tolerate him at best. Wickerbottom & Wigfrid: Wickerbottom is an old actress who is desperate to relive her glory days at any cost. She takes on different roles depending on what the situation calls for, mimicking four of her most popular roles in years past. Wigfrid is a librarian who dreams of something more, wanting her operas and plays to be memorialized on stage. Not that she'd ever want to perform them herself, though-- she's much too shy for that.
Lucy & Woodie: After losing her husband, Lucy is desperate to find him, wherever he may be. If that means stepping into a portal spawned by a man with nefarious intentions, well, she'll do it.
Webber & Walter: Webber is the son of Tennessee sharecroppers who spends his time wandering around the forests of his home. He has a fondness for animals, in particular for birds, and is extremely adventurous like most young boys. He enters the constant by complete accident, interacting with a machine his parent's employers obtained from a mysterious man. Walter enters the Constant as his normal human self, but is consumed by Woby. He is reborn as an anxious but well-meaning dog-boy who can communicate and befriend hounds and varglings. Winona & Wanda: Winona is desperate to find her sister after she mysteriously disappears after a performance in Harlem. While searching, a dark force whispers to her, giving her ideas for her inventions that warps time and space around her. She knew exactly what the Constant entailed, but her love for her sister made the consequences of dabbling with THEM meaningless. Wanda is a worker at a factory run by a man named Wagstaff, who steals most of her work and claims them as his own-- when she tried to prove that she was the real brains behind his company by making a portal to a new world, Wagstaff thanked her for her service and shoved her inside. Warly & Maman Angeline: As a mother, Angeline would do anything for her son. When he died from Yellow Fever, she was willing to do anything to bring him back: including making deals with forces previously unknown. Wurt & Wilba: Wurt is a princess and heir to the Merm King's throne, and she won't let anyone forget it. She is always willing to help her people despite her prissy attitude and tendency towards cannibalism. Wilba believes in a better life for her pig brethren, and is strictly herbivorous, although she can't control herself during a full moon nor a new moon. Wagstaff & Warbucks: Wagstaff is a faux "inventor" who uses the accomplishments of others in order to further his career. After "discovering" a portal to another world, he is determined to tame it's "wild, primitive" peoples and land for himself. He finds no value in preserving what's there: after all, it's subar in comparison to the genius of the civilized world. Warbucks does not appear in this AU's main story. Wortox: Like Klaus, Wortox has reached the peak of his species. He is not a playable survivor anymore, but will cause conflict in the main story. Other characters not mentioned (WILL NOT APPEAR):
Walani: I originally had her swapped with Woodlegs, but surfing has such deep historical ties to the Polynesian people that I wouldn't have been comfortable removing that feature from her in any way. She stays as she is. Woodlegs: Woodlegs is meant to be a fun pirate character, but considering the history of pirates in history and the time where he would've been a pirate (during the latter half of the slave trade), I'm just going to ignore him. Wilbur: There's not much I can do with a monkey. He remains the same. Wheeler: To be frank, I haven't played Hamlet a lot, and Wheeler was the last character added to it (all I know is that she was the replacement for Warbucks). I don't know anything about her, and I'm not going to touch her. There's one OC character too, but he'll be added later.
Additionally, some characters have some slight alterations to their races: all of these are important to their lore.
