Sienna and Florence have two different types of engineering when it comes to the architecture of their buildings. With Renaissance engineering in Florence there are the high painted ceilings and rounded arches. With medieval engineering they have the pointed arches all over their churches and towers. The idea for the pointed arches then were for them point up to God, which is where the paradise was that everyone wanted to get to. The medieval engineering also included wooden ceilings versus the intricately painted ceilings within the Renaissance buildings. The way the buildings were built adds to the differences between the two times because the medieval buildings are not all the same and organized. It is easy to see that whenever they expanded they just expanded up on the buildings. The Renaissance buildings are more organized and look fairly similar to each other. The facades for both the medieval and Renaissance style are gorgeous and made of marble. In the Renaissance times there were many changes within the engineering world. For one thing architecture wise they moved from the pointed arches to the rounded arches, and then they also stopped building with wooden at their main material. This was the time when coal production and other types of metal were in production and lead to the use of these raw materials. With the expansion of coal production, it really caused a major improvement in the formation of mining and transportation.Â
