it’s not that aaliyah didn’t know genevieve ceoi was a woman of many mysteries; maybe that’s, in a way, what liyah had liked best about her mentor; her friend. what she didn’t like was how it ruined her own narrative and motives. she’d been genevieve’s assistant, her right-hand, and then there were more. and magic. and hunters. and now... nothing.
nothing except for one very equally mysterious loren reynaud. maybe aaliyah was just desperate for something (someone) to believe in, or maybe she just really missed genevieve, but she was eager to get close to this new face among the witches.
“so. you know genevieve,” aaliyah started, hands on hips but her face open, friendly. she had jumped at the chance to practice magic, but even better, get some one-on-one time with ren, find out more about the woman. unlike genevieve, this woman seemed less tight-lipped about herself, which would play into aaliyah’s favor nicely. “i don’t remember her mentioning you, but that isn’t surprising - she never talked about anything unless she had to. talks.-” damn, why did aaliyah keep referring to her in past tense? she was coming back. “where’d you two meet? how long ago? why weren’t you here sooner?”
