Hi Rebecca! I’ve really enjoyed your Downton Abbey and Anne of Green Gables posts (I’ll be citing one of them in chapter 24 of Trust and Providence, so thanks!), and I’m starting to plan Part III of T&P now, which will be focused on the post-war rebuilding of infrastructure and society in Britain, and the loss of many of the great estates. Do you have any knowledge / references / recommendations as I start researching this era? Have a great (although it sounds hectic :) weekend! Thanks, Rachel

Hi Rachel! I deeply apologize for taking so long to answer you. I hope you’ll forgive me.

I started answering your first ask and then when I went to save it as a draft, it somehow got lost or deleted or something and even though I’ve looked everywhere, I don’t have it anymore. Thankfully though, I still had the text of your ask in my email from Tumblr so I was able to rescue it that way. (Personally, I think by accident I sent it to you privately. If I did, I’m sorry. I meant to finish answering it before posting it.) Anyway…. At least the good part that has come out of it is that I can answer your questions all in one ask!

Before I start, I want to let you know that I’m in the midst of reading Trust and Providence right now (I’m in ch. 12) and it’s really great. It’s excellent! I can’t wait to see where you go with it!

So, yes, I definitely have some knowledge, references, and recommendations I can give you! I hope my tardiness in answering does not hamper your research efforts. If you don’t mind (I hope you don’t), I’m going to give you some background links (as in, the Victorian and Edwardian eras before I start off with the Interwar years and then go on to the ’40s through the ’60s and perhaps into the ’70s.

You don’t need a pre-existing category to post stories on AO3. Just post a story and tag it and you’ll be creating a category in the process. One already exists in Green Gables Fables.

Huh! Last time I checked (which I'll admit was a bit of a while ago) there wasn't a category for Green Gables Fables.

Yea! Definitely do it. And it’s easy to create a new category (you just email the admins: click on “Help” at the bottom of any page for instructions.) I’ve done it before; turnaround’s about a week. You should suggest a top-level “webseries” section!

So for the yay, are you saying, yay go for fanfiction.net, or are you saying yay, go for AO3? So the new category/top-level "webseries" section is for fanfiction.net, I take it? And technically, there is an area where I could post Green Gables Fables stories: it's the Green Gables Fables Story Club (the Tumblr username is ggfstoryclub).

And AO3 has its upsides: more freeform tagging; no worries about M-rated stories being taken down without warning; the ability to embed hyperlinks and artwork in your stories; better support for co-authorship; conversation threading of reviews.

Hm. Good to know…. However, I hope you don't mind me saying it, while I might make a AO3 account at some point in the future, I think I'm going to go with FF.net first.
