Their fight was still entirely too fresh in his mind, hands balling into fists. He was so infuriated by what he’d found out. How could Cain still claim to want him? It made no sense. Wasn’t he just another mission for Cain to complete?

“Why?! Why would you want me? You said it yourself, you don’t deserve me…”

Abel’s eyes narrowed, all he wanted to do was hit something, and if he didn’t feel so weak he’d throw a swing at Cain.

“ I’m just some stupid navigator right? Some stupid mission for you to complete to get your way?”

“But you’re not!” he shot back, coal eyes desperate as they fell on his navigator... his PARTNER. There had been little in his life that he’d ever truly cared about. Abel... Ethan... was never supposed to be one of those things but here they were. He’d fallen and fallen hard. 

“I was supposed to seduce you, yes... I was supposed to be free and clear of all of my bullshit if we succeeded with that damn piece of shit thing they put in the Reliant... but that CHANGED. I...” His fists clenched tight as he refused to take his gaze from Ethan. He needed him to see that what was going on between, what had happened between them, wasn’t a lie. 

@reliantnavigatorabel​ sent: “Why me? Out of everyone you could’ve chosen.”

Fate, destiny, luck... whatever people wanted to label that sort of bullshit, Alexei didn’t buy into it. You made your own damn luck as far as he was concerned. You were either good at what you did or you died, plain and simple.

And then Ethan got practically dropped in his lap.

He wasn’t supposed to get attached, just let him get attached to him. Too bad the universe had other plans.
