#relatable man

·         matej is from a school of sirens in the gulf of mexico. he was a loyal son and loyal to their ways, had a strong and good voice that could entrance and was extremely good at it as well.

·         he loved the ocean, the sea, the song and the aquatic siren life —but as all in his school, when he reached adolescence (around 14 or so) he was sent ashore to become familiar with human ways and the dry lands.

·         on land… it was difficult for him to say the least. while he had pretty strong water manipulation powers to keep himself dry, he found himself feeling claustrophobic and itchy and missing the ocean. so he turned to the one thing he had left: his voice.

·         that all changed when alex fell victim to matej’s trance.

·         it was an accident when it first happened, really. alex was a star multi-sport athlete, bouncing between the fields, the track, the pool, the hockey rink and just so happened to be there when matej thought he was a lone. the song had really just been for himself, a haunting piece of home that brought about memories of saltwater and peaceful waves, he hadn’t expected to open his eyes to find the star athlete at his feet.

·         most of his victims, matej had little mercy with but something inside him shuttered when he looked into alex’s eyes.

·         after that, alex was on matej’s radar, in the back of his math classes and in hallways surrounded by his teammates. the siren became the entranced. ( and sometimes, he’d look to find  the other already looking back)

·         the months that followed would almost be dreamlike. matej and alex would become close toward the end of junior year, and one fated night, matej would kiss him on the beach under the stars.

·         from there it was good. matej still sang, but it was different now. his songs were for alex and for alex alone. funny, the human that would tame the siren that used to be so vicious. publically they weren’t much more than friends, alex’s fear of what others thought of him only overshadowed by what it would mean for his blossoming hockey career. it was still enough for matej, completely gone on his boy.

·         until the day of the crash.

·         alex was on the way home from a game with a few teammates when a driver barreled through a stopsign and slammed into their car. it was a fatal crash for all involved.

·         matej could feel it when it happened ---sirens always LOVED differently, anyway. he was devastated in the aftermath of the crash, without alex and without a reason to stay. it didn’t take long for him to learn that with the loss of alex, he lost his singing voice as well. he was completely lost and started to wander, by ocean and by land.

·         eventually, matej ended up in hollow creast, stayed for the fact that it was so different than the city he met alex in.

·         he’s still working through things. alex’s death is very fresh in his mind and he still can’t sing or entrance. he’s not sure he ever will again.
