@reknight; is death something we should be able to reverse in the first place?
the question greets conner like an old nemesis ⸺ it startles him a little, exhaling tar-laced smoke outward in a fit of coughs that leave him winded more than anything else. it blinks, rapid and adjusting once more to the moody low-light that seems to *only exist in gotham, gaze focusing on the side silhouette of jason todd. it lingers there, intense in all the way their artificially-crafted eyes seem to bloom.
though the question had forcibly pulled conner from the daze that he'd settled in previously, it doesn't really strike it as a question too out of the blue for jason. he balances half of a cigarette between its two fingers, idly sniffing as their rumbling voice comes to respond, ❝ i don't think so. i think bringing folks like us fucks us up and nobody knows how to *deal with us after we don't come back the same. ❞ he'd seen it in the others ⸺ though members of his own had been able to help where he'd asked, conner still felt a shell of themselves. it's not sure if it was better or worse off in the long run ⸺ conner knows there's more parts of him worse for wear than not.
it's even worse for jason.
conner studies him again through half-closed eyes, smiling with a hint of piercing struck through frenulum, shrugging idly, ❝ i say it's their fault. nobody wants loved ones to die ⸺ but nobody wants to adapt when they come back wrong. don't get me wrong, jay; 'm glad to be alive and back from gemworld too, but ... the world doesn't really have a spot for kon-el or conner kent. 'unno. ❞ it tries a different approach, gently nudging jason with a smile that tries its damnedest to hide the rest of its emotions, ❝ why ask, big red? ❞
