Reign of Error provides a snapshot into the motivations of eleven artists who use collaborative, performative and inter-disciplinary devices to investigate real or imagined constructions of self and the world.
The reign of error is derived from the notion of the self-fulfilling prophecy – a prediction that directly or indirectly causes itself to become true. This prediction is a drive motivated by our own personal fears, doubts and insecurities, arrogance or over confidence. The curious component to the self-fulfilling prophecy is that it perpetuates a ‘reign of error,’ whereby forcing our positive and negative thoughts to become true, intended or not. We all get stuck in feedback loops that rule our lives, common themes and issues we dance around. The same occurs on a larger scale in our physical, digital and natural environments.
Reign of Error seeks to explore and celebrate inner motivations, identities, doubts, magic, illusions, lies, truths and popular constructs through mistakes, feedback, fashion, design, text, sculpture, video, performance and sound. Through this we have a chance to manipulate/interrogate each artist’s reign of error whilst questioning/reflecting on our own.
