Warden instincts kicked in for Bethany as soon as she left the sterile room and entered the maelstrom of Hive City: assess the threat and familiarize yourself with your surroundings.
She’s become more accustomed to the dank underground of District Epsilon, and for the past few days Bethany’s been scoping out the various sectors. But there’s a lot to take in this age of obscenely needless technology (most of which she’s willfully and stubbornly ignoring) and it doesn’t take long before she’s bumping shoulders with a younger man.
“Maker’s Breath, I’ve been so clumsy lately. Are you alright?” Bethany’s pretty sure it wasn’t a hard collision, but she’s discovered all sorts of different people and species here already. Who knows how much it takes to hurt this stranger? “I’m able to heal-”
She pauses, remembers what the scientists did to her powers.
“Alright, I was able to heal, so never mind that. Uh. I’m a good field medic, I suppose?”
One day, she’ll learn how to stop rambling at strangers.
