Fun post going around asking what we call different things in different U.S. regions.... and like... First off, wtf is anĀ āOtter-popā it sounds cute... But like, itās just a popsicle... But I think Popsicle is an actual brand... Which, incidentally falls victim to the funniest southernism of them all... The General Brand-ism... by this I mean, all adhesive bandage strips areĀ āBand-Aidsā, ALL soda isĀ āCokeā and thereās a few others Iāve certainly forgotten....
Hereās a list of wild things that seem central to my region (The hilarious thing is that due to my location... Weāve also thrown in some Midwest-isms... Weāre a mixed bag):
Hair Tie= ponytail holder
Pigtails= Dog ears (I havenāt heard this in a while tho)
Shopping cart usually equals buggy
All soda isĀ āCokeā (although some of the older folk call itĀ āPopā
All frozen ice treats areĀ āPopsiclesā even the ice cream bars
Catalytic Converter = Cadillac Converter (Itās a car part)
Itās Ford or Chevy... No other brands exist... Even if you drive something other than a Ford or Chevy... It just doesnāt exist... I feel like itās a big divide that is very central to my neck of the woods.(Iām interested in knowing if itās an actual thing elsewhere... Like, we are very Ford vs. Chevy... And everyone is obsessed with Mustangs [for whatever inconceivable reason... theyāre so fucking ugly... Like all Fords!])
We only have Walmart or Dollar Store
We sayĀ āopeā when we mess up
Do yāall sayĀ āskilletā in reference to pans?Ā āCause we sayĀ āskilletā...Ā āYou fry squash in the copper skilletā
Speaking of regional things... Do yāall have SteakĀ ānā Shakes... Iām pretty sure theyāre regional... Kind of like Krystalās and Bojangles (Iām fairly confident that those are only in the east... and they get scarce the farther you go from the south east.... Also, whatās the deal with Cracker Barrel?)Ā
... Iām sure thereās more.... But, I canāt remember them right now....
