What is prototyping?
I like to think of it as some sort of rudimentary implementation of an idea. I really liked the definitions of Tim Brown and the ones we came up with in class. Prototyping is an experimental bridge between brainstorming and producing a product. I couldn’t really appreciate how effective this could be until we did our group prototypes for project 2 in class.
Tim Brown talked about how there are spaces in IDEO where prototyping is experimented with without any real concrete ideas. People just walk into a room and start spitballing. This was similar to the in class project because we had written down a bunch of brainstormed ideas but hadn’t realistically considered how we would approach any of them. Much less with a bunch of random constrained materials. Trying to Macgyver our ideas with what we had really put things into pespective for us and even gave us a few more ideas to build upon, which really let me understand why IDEO does these unorganized prototyping sessions.
