Reflection on the Course
Throughout the course, I have realized how much my thinking has been still very US-centered and Western-based when approaching the termsĀ ātransgenderā andĀ āgender variant.ā This course has done a lot to deflate my ego in terms of knowing about gender variance in every space. Being trans, I felt as if I knew what was going on through experience, especially also having other intersecting oppressed identities. While I didnāt assume my experience was the end-all, it was still eye opening to learn about gender variance in other places, and how the study of these things and calling themĀ āgender variantā may be problematic in certain contexts.
