My Reflection about Teaching Profession
I read a quote that says, “A smooth sea, never made a skilled sailor,” and I agree because life is full of ups and downs, twists and turns, and a hurricane of different emotions. The struggles that we overcome, molds us to be a better person than before. Being a future educator brings a huge responsibility to anchor the needs of future generations regarding wisdom and knowledge. Learning about the subject, “Teaching Profession” was a great advantage to my part and an eye-opener because it taught me how a teacher undergoes different struggles and processes to be able to become a candle that lights the way for others.
The teaching profession is one of the major subjects that a teacher must complete, and I am one of those students taking this course. This helps me a lot because the teaching profession is what we call the codes of ethics for every educator to possess. We’ve tackled about the NCBTS (National Competency-Based Teacher Standards) is a theoretical framework that defines the different dimensions of effective teaching. It identifies necessary competencies that all teachers should possess. and PPST (Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers) is used as a basis for all learning and development programs for teachers to ensure that teachers are properly equipped to effectively implement the K to 12 Program. Then we also tackled teaching as a vocation, mission, and profession, where questions such as “why be a teacher? why teach?” are asked to know how determined we are becoming future educators. Next is all about the different kinds of teaching, such as Perennialism, Essentialism, Romanticism, and Progressivism. The skills required in 21st-century education are also being tackled to equipped ourselves in today’s modern generation where technology is significant in the specialization of the field to gain and access information. Classroom management is important for us to manage the conducive learning of the children, starting from the cleanliness and organizing the room to the behaviors or proper etiquette of each learner. Knowing the involvement and contributions in school and community partnership is also a part of the lesson to know that networking with others is beneficial to each other. After that, we also tackled the educational system in different countries so that we may know how these states govern their education. Some may have similarities and some are different. Lastly, we tackled about the rights of teachers, students, and parents, the different institutions for education, Magna Carta of public and private schools, the process for the licensure examination, laws about bullying and the writes of every child and the professional code of ethics for teachers.
Before I end my reflection I would like to thank my subject teacher Ma’am Lav for being kind and understanding to us. Thank you, ma’am, for listening to our opinions and supporting us in every steps we take and thank you sei for the additional lessons you have taught us. I am thankful for the guidance you have given to us. Also, to my dear classmates for the relentless effort and teamwork we shared with each other, thank you very much. As I end my reflection I would like to emphasize the quote:
