Not Lonely Anymore
For @/starcrosseddeancasâ Drabble Challenge. Prompt Six: Lonely.
Ao3 Link:Â https://archiveofourown.org/works/47783680
Sayaka remembers the first time she saw an idol on TV. Itâd been the first time sheâd ever felt seen. Like she was more than some little girl in a dark house waiting for her Dad to come home.
Sheâd thought about that night often. It was a good motivator. Being an idol was endless work and sometimes she wanted to just quit. Until she remembered that little girl realizing she could be more than a shadow.
And she thinks of that little girl now, curled up on the couch with her friends. Sheâs a full-fledged idol now, out of school and in her own apartment. She smiles and comes to understand being an idol hadnât been the true goal at all. Sheâd wanted companionship. Sheâd wanted someone to look at her and recognize her as more than a wisp.
And sheâd gotten her dream. Sayaka wasnât lonely anymore.
prompt 4 u: "Good morning."
"It doesn't feel like one."
Ranboo hums, eyeing his husband as he stirs the scrambled eggs sizzling in a pan. The goat-hybrid would seem fine to anyone who didnât know him, hair brushed and standing straight in his usual bomber jacket and boots. Ranboo knew Tubbo though, and he could see the way the otherâs hands clenched and unclenched and the way his ears flicked harshly in a way they only did when he was irritated.
âYou okay?â he asked softly, turning the heat down on the stove so he could turn to face his husband without having to worry about burning the house down.
âFine,â Tubbo snipped in a way that clearly said he wasnât fine before backtracking with a sigh, âsorry, just tired. I didnât sleep very well.â
Ranboo hummed again, holding an arm out to invite the other to lean into him. Tubbo did so easily, melting into the touch and head butting the tallerâs side gently. Running a hand through Tubboâs hair and wrapping his tail around the shorterâs leg, Ranboo spoke, âwhy donât you go back to bed then? Or we can stay up and just relax here, maybe even bring Michael down? You deserve a break.â
âWe deserve a break,â Tubbo corrected with an unamused snort before shaking his head. âI canât though, we need to watch the outpost to make sure Quackity doesnât try anything.â
âI could watch it then,â Ranboo hummed, pulling away from Tubbo to grab the pan of eggs and shake them into a plate. âAnd you could stay here and rest for a day. Iâm sure Michael would love to hang out with you, and you could even invite Tommy over if you wanted.â
Tubbo contemplated the offer quietly, brushing his bangs up so he could look over Ranboo fully. His mouth was edged into a sharp line, brows furrowed as he thought. Eventually, his shoulders sagged and he let out a sharp sigh. Walking over to Ranboo he wrapped the man into a hug from behind, once again ramming his horns softly into the otherâs back. âFine, but only for a day.â
âOf course.â
prompt 4 u: "When you're invisible, at least there's no one to disappoint."
Dogchamp flicks an ear, as if to signal heâs listening. Purpled isnât stupid enough to believe the animal can actually understand him but itâs nice to just... pretend, he supposed. Sometimes his thoughts got to loud for his head and he just needed to say what he was truly thinking for once.
âItâs good that no oneâs around,â he continues, sorting through his house chests for what felt like the hundredth time. Pushing potatoes and fish and potions and all kinds of things into new spaces as he once again reorganizes. This time heâs placing everything down in alphabetical order. âIâm able to do whatever I want and no one can say anything about it because no one cares. Thereâs no âPurple donât-â or âPurple can you-â or- or âPurple...ââ
He swallows, placing down the bread he had been holding in a random slot and sitting back. Suddenly the silence is suffocating, an overbearing presence that swallows him. Dogchamp letâs out a soft whine, probably noticing his ownerâs upset. Padding over, the dog nudged Purpledâs hand gently with his snout.
âWe donât need them,â the teen murmured, wrapping his arms around Dogchamp and burying his face in the dogâs soft fur. âWe donât need the UFO, or Quackity and his stupid country. We have the house and- and the farm, and weâve got all these things that- that someone has to take care of. Weâre fine, weâll- weâre fine.â
Heâs not sure he believes it.

prompt 4 u: "I can't do this anymore."
âWhat do you mean?â Huey asked, brows furrowing. He looked down at Louie warily, and though he had asked, Huey couldnât help but feel he already knew the answer. After all, it was no secret Louie hated adventures, and this whole... breakdown seemed to have started the second adventure was brought up.
Huey didnât really understand though. Sure he could understand the appeal of staying home, but adventures were fun and exciting. They offered new information and chances to see the world and learn all kinds of new things. They even had treasure (most of the time at least) which Huey knew Louie loved.
Was staying at home wasting away on the couch really so important to him?
âAdventures!â Louie growled predictably, âI-I need a break! Iâm too tired to keep doing this, I canât-â
âOkay, okay,â Huey soothed, interrupting his brother despite his brain screaming at him not to. He desperately wanted to understand, to finally know for once what his brother was thinking. The more Louie talked though the more panicked he seemed to become, and Huey really didnât want that. âIâll try to find us a way out of it okay? We- we can do something else, at home! Itâll be a normal day, like on the houseboat, thatâd be nice right?â
And Huey was mostly trying to come up with things to calm down Louie (who was breathing so shallowly Huey feared he would faint), but the more he spoke the more he found himself agreeing with what he said. As fun as adventures were it would be nice to spend one day just doing normal things, to act like they used to on the houseboat for once.
Huey knew he would never get that with Dewey, but maybe his youngest brother would like a bit of normalcy for once too.
âYeah,â Louie mumbled, âIâd like that.â
What did u think when Della watched that last spaceship fly by?
Damn it. Damn it all!
She had been so close, if that stupid monster had waited just a few more seconds Della could have gone home. She could have been saved. She could have finally seen her boys and just how much theyâd grown.
How long had it been now? A year at least, right? They would be walking by now, maybe even talking. When she had been on Earth, Della had always imagined watching her little boys taking their first steps to her, or saying âMamaâ for the first time.
Now she would never get that.
She didnât know anything about them, not even what they looked like. Even the order they hatched was a mystery to her. Was Rebel just as mischievous as sheâd imagined him as? Turbo as quick and cunning? Jet as smart and adventure-ready?
Della didnât know, and now maybe she never would.
