@redzoe2 Just sent me this question
Hi! I'm just curious about your viewpoint on the 'shooting the wall' bit. Now, as I haven't read the book in question yet, I can't say anything there. But in the BBC version, John is running upstairs at the sound of gunfire, implying that he wasn't home.(I need to rewatch to be sure.) So, it's entirely possible that Sherlock(in BBC) didn't expect John to return home when he did. Meaning he may not have intended to trigger John's PTSD in any way. Now, of course, I could be wrong, but still.
Thanks for the question! Any opportunity to discuss how PTSD is handled by this show and Sherlock’s character is very welcome.
I’d hadn’t seen the scene in a while either, so I looked up this clip. And... Sherlock doesn’t do himself any favours. If anything he’s worse than I remember.
I concede your point that he didn’t know John was home when he started. BUT he shoots the wall again, multiple times after John comes in. John flinches, and takes the gun off Sherlock to get him to stop.
The show is not good at handling the PTSD they gave John. And one of the ways the show suffers is the fact it makes Sherlock look like an idiot in relation to it.
I’m working on a version that does better with it: thanks for your interest in that too!
Are you actually 81 years of age?
