The only thing that scares me about an Emerald redemption arc is that MKG will do everything we were afraid they'd do with Ilia (Evil Lesbian, Bury Your Gays, Redemption through Death) and it'll be even worse because she's our only black character

With Cinder being separated from Emerald I'm gonna hop back on board my "Blake converts Emerald to the good side" train
Jaune uses his semblance to amplify Emerald's and project an image of 👌 into the minds of everyone in Remnant
Cinder comes back and tries to kill Emerald in a scene reminiscent of Pyrrha's death. Ruby saves her this time, and we finally get our Cinder vs. Ruby showdown.
Weiss bonds with Emerald over their rebellion against abusive authority figures. She convinces the rest of the heroes to buy Emerald a new outfit. This includes a real shirt instead of half a bra.
Emerald also changes her hairdo like Weiss to symbolize her rebellion.

Mercury tries to get Emerald to rejoin the villains. She tells him to go to hell. Mercury dies and the heroes and Emerald feel kind of sad about it because he was also an abused teenager, but less so because he was an unrepentant sadist. Mercury serves as the poignant foil to Emerald, someone who did evil things because evil things were done to him but who couldn't be saved because he didn't want to be.
Emerald tells the heroes everything she knows about Salem's plans (admittedly not much). Her intel helps them craft a better plan of attack than the disaster of one they have currently. It's the primary reason they keep her around at first, before they grow to trust and like her as an ally and eventually as a friend.
You know now that I think about it, Blake and Emerald could have a really interesting dynamic if they ever have the chance to talk. Blake knows what it's like to be abused by an emotionally manipulative adult who claims to be doing the right thing but clearly isn't. If anyone on Team RWBY could facilitate Emerald joining the good guys, it would be Blake.
Blake could speak on Emerald's level. She'd have the best shot at convincing her to break away from the villains and turn over a new leaf. And Blake would probably be the only person who could persuade Ruby and Yang to forgive Emerald. "I was a criminal, too. I did some awful things because someone I trusted made me believe I was in the right. But that's not who I am anymore. I'm trying to make up for what I did. The only difference between her and me is that you met me before you knew about my past and you accepted me for who I was, not what I'd done."
