February 20, 2020 - Red-legged Crake, Red-legged Chestnut-Rail, Malay Crake, or Malay Rail (Rallina fasciata)
Found in parts of the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Vietnam, these crakes inhabit swamps, marshes, rice paddies, and other wetland habitats. They eat earthworms and other invertebrates, picking them from the ground. Their breeding behavior is not known in detail, but may be similar to closely related species which build shallow cup-shaped nests near the ground from grasses.
