I couldn't find Ashleaf anywhere inside the house today. When I ventured outside into the hot, humid Summer day, I found her lounging on the red maple tree and enjoying its company while watching the afternoon sun. This tree has been with us for over 40 years, but in recent years it's been looking a little less than healthy. Its bark is peeing, there are many large cracks in its trunk, it's covered in lichens and moss, and many of its branches are devoid of leaves. Ashleaf is sad to think this tree may be on its way out, but until it leaves us to go to that big forest in the sky, she's going to encourage it to do the best it can. The leaves it does have are beautiful, and it's still trying to live its best life, so who are we to tell it that it's time is done? <3
